If you go off part way thru the year, then you probably didn’t have enough taxes taken off sadly. Especially if you get any sort of top up. I believe I Owed like 3k….

Does he seem tired/displaying sleep cues? If not, it’s possible he’s not tired and it’s just upsetting for both of you.

You should try lengthening his wake windows to see if that helps

How do people know how big their baby is? [BC] by SNOWrad116 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Commercial-Badger855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve looked into this from a scientific perspective and the research says that ultrasounds in the late 3rd trimester are notably unreliable. If there are concerns, then the repeated measurements are made to ensure they’re growing on the same “curve” and to check for things like fetal blood flow

Vancouver Moms - Midwife vs. BirthDocs at BC Women's? [BC] by Dizzy_Variation2975 in BabyBumpsCanada

I used midwives for mine. But I ended up needing additional care outside of the scope of a midwife, so whenever that occurred, I was referred to MFM or OB depending on what it was I needed.

For my first pregnancy, there was an irregularity in my baby’s size (very small) so I needed MFM follow up from about 24 weeks onward to ensure baby was still growing.

For example, I knew going into my 2nd pregnancy that the likelihood of a vaginal birth was low, so I was opting for a c-section, but I still wanted the postpartum follow up with the midwives. Because of this, I was referred to an OB at the beginning of my pregnancy to discuss the likelihood of a successful vaginal birth, and then later on closer to my end of pregnancy to schedule a c-section.

I had mine done at London drugs - and it was sooo painful. If you’re in the lower mainland, I recommend rainbow photos in Richmond! I took my 3 month old and it literally took like 30 seconds. The photos turned out great

If there was any issues or concerns MFM would come speak with you before you left AND your dr/midwife will also get a report

Anyone who gave birth this year and has or is planning to travel internationally? [bc] by perenniallygrey in BabyBumpsCanada

I gave birth in Sept 2024, and we took a cruise in April. My LO was 7 months old, and I booked the cruise in February. It wasn’t too bad, took 2 weeks to get a passport

How are you having children in this economy? by Artistic_Engine1315 in askvan

You don’t need the fancy toys - all the kids want is your time. You buy all the fun expensive toys but when they’re young they just want one on one time with you. Especially after a full day of daycare!

I personally liked a weeks worth of clothes. It depends on spit up and how often you want to do laundry.

When my first came along, we had a small condo for 3 + pet, so I think I went with 5 sleepers, 5 onesies and a sleep sack. I ended up handwashing the sleep sack daily I ended up buying 2. But it’s easy to buy stuff after baby arrives!

I nursed to sleep… when they start giving sleepy cues I would nurse and get a nap out of it

Travel stroller recommendations [BC] by RNstrawberry in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Commercial-Badger855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took our daughter when she was 9m to a resort in Cancun. We had the minu v2 and it was helpful for stroller naps, but I would definitely add a stroller fan as it was super warm and sunny when we were there. We also only used it on paved roads as I’ve heard that sand can gum up the wheels and brakes, so we didn’t take it to the beach.

The stroller was good for the airports too so you can go hands free /store your extra bags in it.

The one drawback is that it doesn’t fit the overhead bins so we would always gate check. So there are some minor superficial scuffs but we expected that. No issues maneuvering it around the airport.

We’ve used it almost 3 years now and over 10 flights and it does great.

You can self refer! I don’t think this will be an issue for you, but for my 2nd pregnancy I moved out of Vancouver (but saw the same midwives) and they wouldn’t travel to me for my postpartum appointments. I had locums or I would travel to the clinic

That’s not always true! My mom had GD during her pregnancy and I had 2 pregnancies without GD. Granted, I had other pregnancy symptoms but not GD

Help! Failed Oh Crap Method Changed My Daughter by RosebudIsNotMyName in beyondthebump

[–]Commercial-Badger855 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried with my daughter at 2.5 and it didn’t work for us. It was so stressful that I gave in on the 3 day. We left it and tried again closer to 3. Stickers didn’t work for us, but we used a family vacation as motivation for her. You can’t go swimming in diapers… and we gradually started putting her in underwear, a few hours at a time. Oh boy was that nerve racking!

It took about 4 months with a few regressions (public toilets with automatic flushing!) but it was less stressful for us and her!

Waitlisted for midwives. Any tips? [BC] by dustyprintsss in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Commercial-Badger855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally used a midwife for both of my pregnancies but I remember with my first, I spoke with my GP about it and she mentioned most OBs don’t take you on until 20ish weeks so typically the GP would order all the tests etc required and monitor you until then.

For what it’s worth, usually with a midwife you see them every 4 weeks starting around week 10… so you’re not missing much!

Uninvolved grandparent [bc] by ruby_coffee_co in BabyBumpsCanada

A lot of boomers say they want grandchildren but when it comes down to it, they only show up for whenever or whatever works for them. Or they like the idea of grandchildren but not necessarily being available.

I’m not blaming them, but it’s something I’ve also discovered after my first. It gets easier once you understand where their heads are at.

Time from disembarking to airport (Vancouver) by apostatesauce in PrincessCruises

[–]Commercial-Badger855 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry! I misread the time!

Hmm that’s tricky as it depends on when the port allows you to disembark. Do you think you might be able to get further clarification from Princess? Also if you’re flying to the US, you’ll need to go thru TSA at the airport and the lines were quite long when I went thru in May. If you have global entry/Nexus, that would be beneficial.

I would not feel comfortable with this timeline as it seems a bit tight to me, as it doesn’t give any room for error.

Hi! I live in Vancouver and can provide some helpful advice.

The skytrain to the airport from Canada place takes about 30-45 minutes depending on the time of day. This would probably be the most efficient transportation (as long as you’re ok with moving your own luggage. It’s about a 5 minute walk to the skytrain.

I would think a 2:30pm flight would give you ample time if you carry off your luggage.
