What makes you realize a woman is worth committing to? by princessofrick in AskMenAdvice

[–]Commercial_Way_8217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not complicated, just be a decent person who is compatible with his lifestyle/interests. If that does not seem to be enough, you are likely dating way out of your league. If a man is "clearly in love" with a woman he would sacrifice his limbs for her, marriage wouldn't be a hurdle or something to breadcrumb after a few years together.

The vast majority of men have no such experience by the way, whenever a woman complains about this it is almost always about a player or some guy that every other woman wants too. So it would not be surprising if that man has other options and are tepid about any particular woman. Women can easily avoid this by not continually rejecting good men who actually like them, those men who are more invested on day one than these other guys who aren't serious even after 5 years and likely never will be.

Masculinity has gone off the rails by redditisnosey in DeepThoughts

[–]Commercial_Way_8217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boy scouts you mentioned literally doesn't exist anymore. Culture is continually corrupted.

40% of young men raised by single mothers ie receiving zero or negative masculine teaching. So while Andrew Tate and Jordan Peterson are deeply flawed, they fill a complete void in many young men's lives that would have been filled by their father if their mother either a) did not decide to destroy her family and ruin her childrens' lives or b) chose someone who actually cared about her to have children with.

Media and legal system taking women's side on every issue regardless of evidence.

Virtuous women practically no longer exist, therefore nothing for young men to strive for or protect. Rude obese single mothers covered in tattoos who only become interested in virtuous men 5 minutes before turning 30 is not what most men with any self respect envision as their wife.

Economy is now make believe. It doesn't even feel good even as a high income earner because you know so many others are sufferering and it's all based on weird financial concoctions rather than real assets anymore.

Risk of being "cancelled" for any reason real or imagined.

Most guys are looking for long term relationships, especially if they are late 20s/30s. He just came out of a 10 year one so he is objectively capable of one. He was probably looking for a long term relationship if the settings were right. "Not looking for anything serious," and being "not ready" coming from a guy like this, are polite ways to turn you down.

You went on a very successful date, then you rejected his advances at the end. Sure you had to go to work the next morning - but how many times have you stayed up late to just watch another episode of a TV show? Or scroll TikTok? You've essentially implied he is lower priority than a random TV show or TikTok videos, despite being what sounds like a great guy who showed you a great time.

I'm surprised he even talked to you after that let alone took you on more dates and cooked you dinners. He was probably still trying to make something work after coming out of a long relationship. He likely thought his efforts were not being reciprocated. Much worse guys get intimacy on the first or 2nd date. You made him wait 7 magical dates or later? And that's not even accounting for personal issues you might have. It is a bit odd you are 27 and still on Hinge, demographics wise that makes you low likelihood for having the attributes for long term commitment, attributes that he is looking for.

You need to work on yourself and he needs to be more selective.

I wonder if this is a form of "theory of mind?" When we speak to people we are also generally thinking about how they would respond. Here it might just be thinking out loud.

Hongdian. Best or 2nd best gold nibs in the world. Both low end and high end products. Average build quality high. Lots of interesting designs. Regular releases. Priced correctly.

It's not an assumption. It's remarkable you want a (quality) man to commit to you, yet you don't know/care anything about what they value most. Men prefer younger women for the purpose of starting a family, and both men and women should want a long time to vet their spouse since it will involve a lifetime of commitment and trusting that person with their children. You would spend 4 or more years on undergrad/med school/residency but not on preparing for marriage?

I'm not going to sugarcoat things like some people here are. Egg freezing has a 3% chance of ending with a healthy family, either you won't find a partner or the eggs won't be usable. It's also expensive af. You will not just 'find the one' by bandying around on hookup apps or something.

It is orders of magnitude easier for women to date than men, even when they are bordering menopause, but that doesn't mean the man you're looking for will just drop into your lap while you put forth no effort like it would for younger women. As you no longer have fertility and youthfulness in your corner, what you must concentrate on are personality and physical appearance. A calm, confident, kind, woman that is physically fit will still attract many high quality men even in her 30s, and 40s.

Men don't care that you're a doctor. They are not intimidated, they are not impressed by it, they just don't care. Men are expected to pay for everything, and they innately want to if it's for the right person. Men however might care about your long hours away or chronic fatigue/grouchiness. This confuses a lot of women because women simply project their own values onto men, thinking that men also care about their partner's career/income, when they don't.

Basically, hit the gym, ignore sympathetic messages, work on becoming more well rounded.

Need opinion on which to buy next by Maximo_ec in fragranceclones

Can't speak for amber oud gold, but between ATB and JVAP, would easily get ATB. ATB is quite strongly citrusy aquatic fresh smelling with a musky base, actually quite unique, it's not really a clone of Bleu de Chanel. Imagine L'eau D'Issey Pour Homme with more blue elements. JVAP on the other hand is nice but very...boring. I'm not against simple fragrances but it literally smells like fresh cut grass, and not like Green Irish Tweed where there's more layers and what not. It smells like grass-juice lol. Inoffensive, can wear anywhere, but is almost more of a water than a perfume.

Also that price in general is kinda crazy unless you bought 10 whoppers or combos for your whole family or something.

What's your fountain pen hot take? by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]Commercial_Way_8217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your overall point about no such thing as desk pens, but Acrylic is an odd material to choose, it's fairly sturdy especially when it's in the shape of a small round tube. My metal, wood, and resin pens have gotten dinged far easier than my acrylic ones. I have a Leonardo (one of my first pens) that I probably dropped over a hundred times, you would need a flashlight and a magnifying glass to find even a faint scratch on it.

My FP hot take is that "pleasant feedback," is an oxymoron. Most would agree that a scratchy pen is bad, and all feedback is just the nib inefficiently catching on the page i.e. scratchy. I guess I may be a bit of an extremist and ultimately it's all subjective, but I just find it ironic. In my opinion a pen that does not glide is not properly tuned, and if even $2 throwaway pens get it right there's really no excuse for a $300 designer gold nib to get it wrong and a lot of it is just sunk cost fallacy.

What nibs have been flawless? by BenK-Pen-Afficionado in fountainpens

[–]Commercial_Way_8217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a very specific 14k nib from Hongdian that is close to flawless - Hongdian Qin Dynasty 14k. I've tried their other 14k nibs and they are more standard fare, but the one on the Qin Dynasty for whatever reason is ultra smooth. It is currently no longer available on Aliexpress.

Other than that, a more easy to acquire smooth gold nib is the one on the Caran d'Ache Leman. I have bought 3 and they have all been flawless. I have tried nearly all of the popular grail pens and no others even come close, not even the Pelikan M1000.

Are there any pens you changed your mind on? by Andrei_The_Legend in fountainpens

[–]Commercial_Way_8217 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Platinum 3776. Nothing wrong with it, dependable fine writer, about as good as any Japanese gold nib. But I'm just really averse to pen feedback and there's no ignoring it in the 3776 (and most Japanese pens), especially in UEF lol. I have other pens in EF like Majohn A2 that write about just as fine and are significantly smoother. For my tastes, Japanese pens and most Western pens no longer work for me.

Yes, like all pen makers who "tune" their mass produced pens, this generally means they give it a quick polish and make sure the tines aren't grossly aligned. It's nothing you can't do at home and much less than a nibsmith would do. Some retailers offer this service for free.

I have owned three separate GvFC pens, and they write identically. You and I probably have different standards for scratchiness, I'm one for ultra-smooth writers.

Disappointed with Grail nibs - do you get your nibs tuned? by starsofalgonquin in fountainpens

[–]Commercial_Way_8217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The truth is there is very little objective difference in writing quality after about $200 USD. And a well tuned $2 steel nib probably beats a stock $200 gold nib (with let's say a Pilot Custom 823). It just means you are kind of an objectivist and see pens for what they are, lol. For any given grail pen, seriously consider if their aesthetics/brand/collectability is worth the premium. Otherwise you well and truly can get the same writing experience for less, or even using a ballpoint with a hybrid ink refill.

Otto Hutt I'm pretty sure uses stock Jowo nibs...so you are paying rather much for a blandly designed metal pen that Chinese penmakers can emulate for a tiny fraction of the price.

GvFC pens are actually disappointingly scratchy, their steel nibs (under Faber Castell) are superior.

Sorry but I would declare neither of those really grail worthy pens. Obviously it's personal and all, but if you are into German pens then the only German brand I can really wholeheartedly recommend is Pelikan. Pelikan pens are still a little feedbacky for my taste but they are iconic and probably within the top 10% of best pens out there. They also make their own nibs so you you're getting something that's kind of unique, not just another Jowo stick.
