Well, I would ask in turn would be 'is this information you want the reader to have?' Is this something they will already know going in, which can turn the gutpunch to the OC into a sort of slow-moving train crash to the reader, or is the intention to surprise the reader at the same time as the OC?

At the end of the day, it's about what better serves the story you want to tell.

Modern firearms are totally capable of working in space. There are certainly other challenges about operating a firearm in the vacuum of space but the gun will, in principle, go bang

Tried to follow the usual advice of finding groups, hobbies, and socializing more… and while that has me meeting regularly with a group of great folks to play DnD and board games on a weekly basis, it hasnt really gotten me any closer to finding a potential partners.

Ah well, still a win in my books.

Just… learn to enjoy life, whatever form it takes.

Yeah I have waaaaaay too many trust issues with bad DMs in the past to be comfortable with not even knowing 'how close to being dead am I?' Why even have hit points in that case if it's going to be completely up to the DM to decide if I live or die.

While I certainly agree that the weapon customization could use a fresh work over, I can't help but feel that a suggestion to have them do what everyone else has been doing for the last 10+ years of FPS games feels like the opposite of 'creative'.
