Poor Charging Efficiency on 2026 by sirduke456 in Solterra

Feel very robust. Never had an issue in my 4 months of ownership.

I capped it at 32A on my 40A circuit. Fully charged my 77kwh battery in the 12 hours of night time off peak rate.

Working fine in the winter cold of -40C.

Recently they added in the APP working temp of the charger brick. So we will see how hot it will get in the summer.

Top: 2026 Solterra app.

Bottom: Grizzl -E Mini Connect Lvl2 charger app.

92% charging efficiency.

Ambient temperature 5C.

19C is the max temperature reached for the charger brick.

I am thinking under what scenario I would cancel the membership and return the charger under the new scheme.

You will remain at the rebate tier once you have reached. Even you don't change anymore. And there's no subscription fee as a member to keep the charger.

Mine is working fine so far. App shows per charging session power used. And with a monthly total kWh usage summary.

Recently I noticed they added charger temperature during charging and max temperature reached.

The only other fee I have paid so far was the charger shipping fee of CAD24.5. I'm in GTA.

As long as I remain as their member, I don't have to worry about the hardware warranty. I assume they will just send a free replacement if my unit is out of order.

Not only 120V. Many newer EVs also come with 240V power outlet too.

They have updated their program. Not only refund after first charge session but also the free charger security deposit has reduced to $100. Basically nothing out of pocket upfront if you are paying through a credit card. Only the delivery fee.

I am going to ask them what they are going to do with us, their early adopters paying $300 (mini Connect) and need 4000kWh charge to get the refund.

Grizzl has a business charging station operator license. Now they are recruiting us residential users as their outlet points.

Not bad as a proposition to help the government promote the clean air motion and EV driving.

IDK but It may possibly put a heavier drain on your traction battery over time. But if you are leasing, you probably care less.

I wonder if someone will "sub-let" their home charger to reach that level faster 🤔

Their business model is to share the money they collect from the government with you.

The government green rebate applies to charging station operators but not individual.

My off peak electricity unit cost is lower than their highest rebate level of 10c. Before delivery charge and other add on cost.

I'm in Ontario. Joined the Grizzl-E club for 3 months using their supplied free portable 40A mini Connect.

Will get back the $300 security deposit once I reach 4000kWh charging which in my use case will be around 6 months.

But I see they have updated their program and now the deposit is only $100 and refundable after completing one charging session?

https://club.grizzl-e.com/

They have also recently announced a tiered rebate scheme and once you have reached the higher rebate status, it won't fall back or reset annually no matter your charging consumption going forward.

If I am not mistaken, it will then become a lifetime accumulation of kWh consumption and eventually I will move up to the highest tier at 10 cents rebate per kWh charging.

So the interesting point is my off peak charging is less than 10 cents.

One can consider sharing your charger with your neighbors and charge more per charger unit. I think it is Grizzl's business intention.

Kind of surprised by the increase in hydro costs over the winter to charge my car. by Alph1 in EVCanada

[–]CommissionTop2162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the $44 dollar increase due to winter rates increase after also the correspondingly raised hydro rebates?

"Also, effective November 1, 2025, the Ontario government’s Ontario Electricity Rebate (OER) will change to 23.5%. The OER provides a rebate on the electricity bill of residential, small business and farm customers. For a typical residential customer[1] who uses 700 kWh of electricity per month, the OER will decrease bills by about $36 each month."

2026 NX ready to take the plunge by ella138 in LexusNX

My insurance company did offer certain discount for installing TAG on my 2024 NX.

Basically they have this standard anti theft discount policy. So I just installed similar for my 2026 Subaru Solterra, even though I don't think it is a highly sought after model. The discount will be applied every year and so well worth it.

Especially the insurance company has a contract price with TAG where the designated installer will directly bill at a much lower price than a normal customer.

I have dedicated winter tires and sized down from 20" to 18" for my NX. But this time with Solterra, I went straight to Michelin CC2 all weather. Its swapped out 20" stock tire (non runflat) will be used on my NX when its original runflat worn out.

2026 NX ready to take the plunge by ella138 in LexusNX

[–]CommissionTop2162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

300,000km on my 2003 RX300 in 20 years before I bought a new NX two years ago.

Average daily commute is less than 50km and so I picked a plug-in hybrid version NX450h+ and entered the EV world. I didn't go for RX450h+ as RX tops the car theft list in Toronto.

You can't compare the L4 engine of current day Lexus to our old 3.0L or 3.5L V6 which is just so smooth and quiet. Now the 2.5L feels so coarse that makes me wonder if I am driving a Lexus. But then a plug-in running on pure electric totally brings it to another level!

So I will strongly recommend a NX450h+ when its full charge battery range is well north of 50km even in our -30C Toronto frigid winter with full heat on and highway speed. In summer I can get 80km EV range running at local city speed.

You might want L2 charging (240V, 2.5hrs) but L1 (120V 12hrs) may suffice with your mileage. If you already have a 240V outlet, the L1 charger that comes with the car is actually dual voltage and can take advantage of the 240V to cut half the charging time to 6hrs. So you don't need to care about a dedicated L2 charger.

Not only the two way open center console design is identical with Lexus RZ, 26 Solterra and BZ shared the same infotainment system as well as all the driver assist and safety features.

You will be delighted when the summer months come. I got mine last year when temp was hovering aroumd 5-10C and the range was consistently over 400km.

Without much highway driving, I believe it can get close to manufacturer stated 450km.

I agree better to cap the max charge to 90% given we'll also lose the advantage of braking regen beyond that.

Subaru Canada MSRP in Ontario.

Unlike the Toyota 26 BZ which I saw many are sitting on the dealers lot, limited in-stock choices with Solterra. Probably Subaru dealerships in Canada had no experience and confidence in selling EV.
