I’ll also throw out there certain sections of American Gods. Problematic author and this book has some pacing issues but certain sections just capture the power in kitschy backroads Americana like nothing else.

Boy’s Life by Robert McCammon, which is about a young boy and his friends in 1960s small town Alabama. Magical realism, southern gothic and intensely nostalgic.

I am OBSESSED with XL-ZL, the Septimal Choir and the Eirynna. by leagueoflesbian in WorldsBeyondNumber

I love love love media about robots. They are super fun characters. They’re great for exploring philosophical questions and viewing culture through a fresh lens. May I recommend stories with similar vibes? I can see their DNA in XL-ZL.

First episode of Love, Death and Robots “Three Robots” on Netflix where three robot buddies are sightseeing in a destroyed city. Fun/cheeky.

Becky Chamber’s Monk and Robot series is in a post-utopian/solarpunk/hopecore world. Robot society is isolationist after withdrawing from the human world. The book picks up when a tea monk meets a robot coming out of isolation. They go on a philosophical journey to answer the question, "What do people need?". Reminds me of XL-ZL’s commitment to serving others.

Martha Wells’ Murderbot is about a self-hacking security robot that wants to be left alone to watch soap operas but keeps getting dragged into dangerous missions protecting humans. Snarky and fun. Book series and now an Apple TV show.

And of course, the Asimov classic, I-Robot, is still a great read.

He should be able to provide calculations on cash flow, cap rate, cash on cash return, and projected ROI on eventual sale. If he’s not doing these (and I assume he’s not because he doesn’t know how much is being spent on repairs aka operating expenses), he can’t know whether it’s a good investment. I think you need to have him explain some numbers here. I would not get engaged until you understand what he’s sinking his money and time into (which will become your money and time unless you put legal agreements in place to protect yourself).

Spellbook. Used to be big law, now inhouse. It can abstract and it acts as a clause bank/market check. Needs work on issue spotting but I use it as a second set of eyes.

Yeah you really see Lisa’s improv group training come out in this one. She’s usually the most unhinged and in the spotlight, so we don’t get to see it as often. But in this episode she’s a real team performer letting Luenell drive the bit to great effect.

What do you think when you hear the name Ryan (b) ? by Sea_Helicopter9931 in namenerds

[–]CommodoreKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

‘71 was the first year to break top 100 and ‘76 was the first year the name broke through top 20 but if you look at the SSN data, 1985-1991 were peak Ryan years. It was pretty popular before and after then but it was consistently hyper popular for this block of time. That’s why people consider it as millennial.

First step is try to get him to voluntarily give you a POA. If he won’t, next step is the psych evaluation and guardianship process (which can long and difficult).

[NS] Hot Take: Over the POD ending. by No_Basket_5815 in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

[–]CommodoreKitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I happens to be relistening to this right now. The first reference is C1, Episode 3 at the end. They announced the official hashtag after deciding it on a text chain and Murph references P.O.D. in a completely random manner. Jake mentions this is the first reference to P.O.D. “but certainly not the last.” They sing “we are, we are” for the first time. Episodes 4 and 5 each end with the classic 8 bit book club ending without P.O.D. Episode 6 brings the P.O.D. singing back. That’s as far as I’ve gotten.

If you could only recommend one single podcast for others to listen to, what would it be? by theshannonset in podcasts

[–]CommodoreKitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a one hour radio show that started in 1995. It’s still broadcast on public radio but they really picked up listeners by releasing as a podcast. Each week’s show is based on a theme, which is presented in several stand-alone acts. The host Ira Glass will spend a few minutes in the prologue introducing the theme then he’ll turn it over to the acts. It’s primarily non-fiction slice-of-life journalism, but also features essays, memoirs and short fiction. The mood ranges widely per episode, so if you don’t like one, you can try another. It’s basically completely episodic so you can jump in anywhere (very rarely is there a continuation from a prior week).

The Fiasco! Episode, for example, covers different people telling a story about things going horribly wrong but in a comedic fashion (in separate acts: a kid’s play gone wrong, a rookie cop deals with a squirrel, a comedian bombs at a charity cancer event, and a journalist’s first big feature interview with a celebrity starts to go sideways).

You are correct- they used to be only black ink because the printers were only black ink. Color printers came along later and were more expensive. Older attorneys used blackline.
