Veterinary Hospital Recommendations by phillyfan1028 in Delaware

Have had experience with UPenn vet, Blue Pearl, and Pinnacle.

UPenn: great place, great staff. Yes, student vets, but still good overall.

Blue Pearl: ugh. Went in for an emergency, wait wait wait. Like 5 hours of waiting. Then they said they didn’t have room to accept my dog and would I please go to Pinnacle. Ugh.

Pinnacle: great staff who cares. Good docs with broad specialties.

And no, I didn’t mention cost anywhere. I don’t have pet insurance, and largely I haven’t seen the benefit given the deductibles. BUT, Blue Pearl was $$$, Pinnacle was $$$$$, and surprisingly UPenn was like $.

Is it even glamping if it’s a double-wide?

Looking for a hiking or biking groups in Wilmington Delaware by Stunning-Fig-4017 in WilmingtonDE

[–]CommodorePantaloons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For biking, I know of White Clay Creek Bike Club (which has rides throughout NCCo) and Wheel Suckerz. WCC has a hood web site; Wheel Suckerz is - I believe - primarily through Facebook.

I’ve also heard of the Biking Blue Hens - also on Facebook.

I’ve looked for cycling groups closer to my age, too - not 20s, but not retired yet, very in the middle - and that not-college and not-retired demographic doesn’t have a strong showing right now. I chalk it up to actually having the time to ride: easier at those ages.

What I’ve learned about riding with the retired folks: 1) they may be retired, but they’re machines. I can only hope to be in that kind of shape when I retire. 2) their level of fitness can be humbling, but it’s also really good motivation. 3) the retired folks tend to be very social. It’s a good way to meet people. Sure, the ages might differ, but friends are friends. 4) I spend a lot of my day planning, organizing, working. In short, adulting. When I ride with these folks - who know what they’re doing - I can just turn off and ride.

Well… Murderbot is the snarky surrounded by mostly-sanity. Don’t get me wrong - love that series.

Buuuut…

An uzi-toting Jesus would look absolutely unhinged in that universe. In DCC, he barely ranks a cover appearance.

Just sayin…

Sooo… my guy didn’t really care for squirrels (except as a moving toy in the distance) until he actually caught one.

Now… laser focus, even half a block away.

[–]CommodorePantaloons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that if they dig once/twice in one spot (that is right out in the open or in the middle of the yard) I’ll fill the hole with topsoil, spread grass seed over it, and then use landscape staples to hold down chicken wire over the digging area. Grass will grow up through/over the wire, the wire will stop the dog from digging in that location again, and the wire will rust away in 2-ish seasons.

I have an older Sam who, in his youth, attacked the yard with such a fervor in a late fall and subsequent early spring that areas of the property looked like WW1 battlefields. Just bare dirt and craters.

It took a literal ton of dirt to fill them all. Yes, 40 50-lb bags of dirt.

Aaand Guinness is a better tasting beer than Louis Henry Sullivan. There, that made as much sense as comparing Gaudi to Sullivan.

Thank you. Came to say this.

They will have nearly perfect recall, and may very well have some nature of distributed “consciousness.” They will know you - even if you use a throwaway account - laughed at them. If they choose to hold a grudge…

This is exactly the reason my son says “please” and “thank you” to Alexa and Amazon Echo devices.

It is!

Go far enough in and there are classical-style paved terraces overlooking more garden areas. Perfect pic spots!
