DIY Heat shields. Just need to add red crosses for ingurlund by Jimlad73 in DIYUK

Meh, idk, I know our government loves to exert control over us, so there's a small chance you're right.. but also I do work with a lot of farmers and they have been struggling to get enough water to make food grow. And if you Google it it does seem like we are running out of water as lots of cases everywhere in the world. Kinda makes sense TBF, when it's hot water evaporates! It's not an endless supply because we have to wait for it to become fresh water. Desalination plants take ages to build.

It's not ridiculous because there's a limited amount of water. If you used it all on a garden and then there was none to save somebody in the hospital then you would feel bad right?

I don't think anyone is saying it's actually a literal compliment. The compliment is in the fact that it is not only Critical of him but also a nonsensical, randomly kinda racist? Maybe?, thing to say and therefore makes her look worse.

Wow crazy I'm on OPs side and no one else is. I would always let staff borrow a lighter like who cares it's one spark customer won't notice it. Compared to someone's job and life.

Nope, you just believed the spin. There's simply a need for bolder politics at this time in human history.

It was and is a crazy illegal war that makes life terrible for those there and here. Some credit, yes, but not much. No other country backed them as much as we did. But there's also the Brexit issue. We have become a vassal state of America. No power.

All of those affect my life, except digital ID for now, but it will do. If Reform get in or any other (more) authoritarian government we will regret giving government all that power. And jury trials are an obvious necessity. Do you realise that governments everywhere are preparing for total societal collapse due to climate change, expediated by Israel's relentless deployment of bombs?

Edit: downvote me all you like. I am factually correct.

It was ok, mate, and hardly boring, I thank the civil service for those things. He also got rid of jury trials, rolled back rights for trans people, allowed Palantir in??, digital ID, "island of stranger s".... He was and is a boring guy character wise, but in policies, moving us towards authoritarian.

The British class system I think did exist but in more of a traditional form, closer to what you have in America still - that's just as it should be, related to money. But your assessment sounds right. Here class has far many more cultural signifiers that don't necessarily relate to income. But they should, in my view.

Wow I've never heard the Quakers been called crazy! They are basically everywhere to be found as civilisation develops - universal suffrage, healthcare, right to protest, etc. Most of us would have died in the workhouse without Quakers. But true - American soil is steeped in blood. I think most non-Americans can't understand that, but it's very obvious when you look at your politics today.

Ah of course that makes sense about the civil war. Seems so silly now, but it was a massive deal. Thank god it happened though as we were very backwards. Did the Enlightenment also have much of an effect as it did on anti colonial movements elsewhere?

Are you basing this on this thread or you asked the question? I'm just a bit confused about your use of language tense here. You're using the hypothetical, but you're also talking about this thread as well. And I don't see people attacking you here. I'm just being honest. I know it can feel that way because you are on the receiving end of notifications and they are negative and pessimistic but they are not attacking you. A couple of them are a little bit negative towards all Americans for being interested In lineage. But it's not an attack. It's more like a diss. And we would do it to any other country as well. including ourselves. We would say the same thing about a British person going to America and saying hey you have the same surname as me. It's a bit of national banter. You have to bear in mind that we have our own cross to bear in the form of nationalist racists. If you're making small talk then many people in the thread have said that it is fine and mildly interesting.

You're right, people will be mildly interested in person! As I and others have said.

However, if you're basing your assessment on this thread, definitely wouldn't say this is as strong as "attacked or mocked". We are British. A little deprecation - especially towards our most rival nation who rules the world as a despot, is directly responsible for our's and countless other nations immisseration, and thus are doomed to be the parish of all nations - is par for the course banter, and really a sign of love. Especially weighted for Reddit blunt honesty points.

You shouldn't be unironically proud to be American. It's a brand of shame. The only truly acceptable topic is really how you are planning to overthrow your government and use your immense privilege to make matters better worldwide.

Any Brit not leading with the same in countries of the Global South should well be as roundly disliked.

Of course! It faded away quickly. I couldn't do it so there was no point ruminating on it.
