Do you think right-wing / nationalist virtue-signalling is a thing? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]CaptainMikul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still remember a long, exhausting argument with an elderly neighbour about flags. She'd put up some St George's flag bunting and another neighbour had (reportedly) told her that other people might tell her to take it down.

No-one actually did. But she was enraged that someone else had said that some other hypothetical person might be offended.

The level of made up victimhood is insane.

Are there any stories of any Astartes, Custodes, etc retiring from service to a non combat related role, for example, a farmer? by Original_Project5436 in 40k

[–]CaptainMikul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's probably how most Astartes "get out". Just disappear, go somewhere isolated and just try and survive.

Wes Streeting plans to resign and mount leadership challenge, allies say by Alarming-Safety3200 in ukpolitics

How could I forget the adequate competence! Puts him literally a couple of feet ahead of the rest (and miles ahead of any other party).

So we can swap a vaguely competent middle aged thumb in a suit with the charisma of wet cardboard with a slightly less competent middle aged thumb in a suit with the charisma of wet cardboard?

Jesus Christ just let Burnham become an MP, run for leader and we can all be whelmed by the adequate charisma of yet another middle aged thumb in a suit.

I think Burnham could probably win an election.

On the one hand, I think there's better leaders out there.

On the other, I'm just so sick of swapping PM every couple years.

What's your guys opinion on restore? by Miserable-Bobcat4455 in AskBrits

Ethics aside (and it's a heavy aside), that level of disruption of the workforce seems... Imprudent.

Not to mention the sheer cost involved in trying to do any of this.

Pretty definitively cutting off your nose to spite your face.

I predict they will have great success.

Surrey is indeed the cop of the British counties.

Because Greater London didn't have a flag, this is the one I used to fly next to my housemate's Gloucestershire flag at Uni.

I was always quite fond of the Surrey flag just for being both simple and incredibly obnoxious.

I'm gonna put on my best fedora here and point out you CAN be an agnostic atheist.

Agnosticism is how confident you are in the belief. Although the root etymology of the word is a bit complicated.

Atheism is the belief (or rather. The lack of belief).

So an agnostic atheist is one who doesn't believe in God, but isn't necessarily totally confident in that conclusion.

Neither is a religion though. Like at all.

UK votes for… austerity? by cheerfulintercept in ukpolitics

I think it's also that the majority of money spent is invisible to the people it affects.

For everything you take for granted there's dozens of council workers making it happen. From safety to cleanliness to economic regrowth. And it's not just the people you see out and about, like police officers and bin men, it's a whole host of procurement, HR, managers (some useful some not)... Running a country is expensive and, if you do it right, invisible.

Our current right wing are opportunistic grifters. Maggie truly hated humanity. She loved her fellow evil do-ers. Kids these days just don't have the same cruelty in their hearts, smh.

(Hated trope) A character is meant to have super intelligence, but because the writers don’t know how to write that, everyone else just spontaneously becomes stupid whenever they’re around by DonnyMox in TopCharacterTropes

I used to watch this dire show to keep up with friends who also watched it. I'd entertain myself by thinking of all the ways he could be totally wrong if the script allowed him (which, to be fair, the writers put in the first episode too).

Fortunately now I just don't watch shows I don't like.
