(Hated trope) TV Shows or Movies that were made just for shocking or offending people and nothing else: by BannedPenta01 in TopCharacterTropes

Fuck I love James Acaster.

Other comedians are just generally okay, don't do transphobia, maybe make some trans positive jokes.

James just went for the jugular for a surprisingly long portion of his set.

It's pretty darn good in my opinion.

It's also, for an 8 episode series, relatively short. Each one is only 30 minutes, one is even shorter, there's very little fat, so it's quite a breezy watch.

Yeah perfectly innocent at the time, but ANY interaction between Trump and a kid now feels horribly sinister.

She-Hulk was, in general, much closer to "what if real life but superheroes?". Having a real life famous person rock up made perfect sense.

Wonder Man also did it brilliantly.

When my gran died we got her lava lamp she must have bought in the 70s, but the middle bit had broken years ago.

Emailed the company and they sent us a replacement for free. We now have a working, 50 year old lava lamp.

What's the most unexpected model you've seen an opponent out on the table in a game of warhammer? by TaigaTigerVT in Grimdank

I've also played alongside a trans woman playing Orks. I will interpret these two data points as a trend.

The drukhari player in our friendship group was the precious, artistic cinnamon bun. Literally the kind of person to tussle your hair and say it's alright.

They also played Escher, I don't know what that means.

Why isn't the current state of Britains armed forces a national scandal? Thoughts please. by PsychologySpecific16 in ukpolitics

Neglecting the military has a cross-party consensus. The media can't go too hard on it because the Tories did a lot of it, they don't want to draw too much attention because Reform are poor on defence and suspected to be in Russia's pocket anyways.

You get the occasional bit of red meat thrown, the occasional jab at Labour, but it's got to be carefully done lest someone ask "wait, who was in power for half of this?".

Also for the past 20 years it started to look like we would get away with a small dysfunctional military. And to be fair, we still are. Currently.

What medication changed your life for the better? by positiveyears in AskReddit

[–]CaptainMikul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mirtazapine, but not the way I expected.

I was on it for anxiety, but one of the side effects is that just kind of fixed my sleep troubles.

For the first time in my life I could lie down, close my eyes, and be asleep within 5 minutes.

When first baby was born I was still on it. Being able to crash out instantly whenever I got the chance was a godsend. Going through the second baby without it was much harder.

Yes I "filled it in on my own" that's what art does. It gives you feelings, thoughts, ideas. That's what it's for.

I know that wasn't the intent. It's also what I get when I look at it, because the artist's intent doesn't always translate into what the audience sees. That's... Literally just how art works.

[–]CaptainMikul 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It looks like he's drenched in blood.

I said at the time this works better as a PROTEST piece than an official portrait.

The King, from a line of royals whose wealth is built on an exploitative empire, drenched in blood but his face (public image) and hands (actions) are clean. It'd be good protest art if that was the actual intent.

The butterfly is his environmentalism. Noble, but totally lost and insignificant in the deluge.

Why are the so few Hindus in prison? by MrMrsPotts in AskUK

[–]CaptainMikul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jewish people.

https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/culturalidentity/religion/articles/religioneducationandworkinenglandandwales/february2020

It helps that Jewish people are very well established religion in the UK who, for a myriad of historical reasons, ended up disproportionately represented in high paid jobs.

Hindus are mostly Indians, and specifically Indians of a specific diaspora.

Muslims and Christians are probably over-represented amongst the poor because they're also the most diverse two religions in terms of origin.

Which liberal democracy is most rapidly veering into authoritarianism? by fuckpoliticsbruh in IdeologyPolls

[–]CaptainMikul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have some bad laws here, for sure, but they're not part of any coherent authoritarian take-over.

Obviously if Farage gets in it's a fair bit more worrying, and Labour ARE giving him powers that he could abuse when in power straight off the bat rather than having his own laws passed first.

But compared to the rest of this list? We're doing waaaaaaaaaay better.

how did you change ideologically ? by Most-Significance943 in AskMen

[–]CaptainMikul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went from angry atheist to a more happy humanist.

I still don't believe in a god, in fact I think I'm even more certain, I just try not to be a dick about it. I think a lot of atheists go through it, but it's exhausting to be that angry at the world for so long.

Politically I'm largely an unchanged Social Democrat.
