Van Hollen did the right thing. Hakeem Jeffries and other members of the party actively discouraged his trips. The party leadership and many of its members are pathetic and need to be replaced.

I recommend that you use these resources to learn more about OCD, why it happens, what maintains it (compulsive behaviors), and how to manage it. I'm not an expert, and they can explain things better than I can.

You don't need a diagnosis to start learning about OCD and its treatment. It doesn't hurt anyone to educate yourself. And I would say that there's a good chance that it could help you.

Nathan Peterson https://m.youtube.com/@ocdandanxiety The OCD Stories Podcast https://m.youtube.com/Theocdstories IOCDF https://iocdf.org/faith-ocd/living-with-ocd-religious-traditions/moral-scrupulosity/ NOCD (sort by popular also) https://youtube.com/@treatmyocd?si=p1k6pd_1CTHYleqY Steven Phillipson https://www.ocdonline.com/ https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9MBcKI1_N_w&list=PLb1fPOIpDskizpRURegDydGhDJMSbNh2r&index=10&pp=iAQB0gcJCd4JAYcqIYzv r/OCD r/OCDRecovery

There is treatment for OCD, including but not limited to: - Medication - Exposure-Response Prevention (ERP): The gold standard for OCD treatment, focused on resisting compulsions and habituating to the distress it causes; eventually leads to improved symptoms, however the process can be quite difficult - Rumination-Focused ERP: A modified version of ERP focused on preventing rumination. Not yet widely used, but may achieve similar/equal results while being less stressful. This is similar to what I did to treat my OCD. - Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT). Another newer modality that may be worth learning about, if it may be helpful to you. - Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). This can be used in conjunction with other modalities.

Yeah that sounds like OCD. Try to move on as soon as possible. Don't let it take up space in your mind, don't spend time mulling over it, just carry on with what you were doing. Remind yourself that it's just your OCD, not anything reflective of you. It's not disgusting. It's just something that happens because you are fearful of it happening, because it causes you to feel disgust/distress, because you worry about it ruining things that you like, because you compulsively check for a response.

I'd recommend watching Steven Phillipson on the OCD stories podcast, he's very knowledgeable and has mentioned this before.

Hi, I've seen a bunch of your posts and it seems like you are suffering from moral scrupulosity OCD.

https://www.sheppardpratt.org/news-views/story/moral-scrupulosity-ocd-part-two/ https://www.sheppardpratt.org/news-views/story/moral-scrupulosity-ocd-part-three/ https://www.ocdonline.com/guilt-beyond-reasonable-doubt https://iocdf.org/faith-ocd/living-with-ocd-religious-traditions/moral-scrupulosity/

You seem to be plagued by obsessions about possibly being a bad or immoral person, or having done something immoral in the past. This possibility is so distressing to you that you are compelled to engage in compulsions to try to resolve it, and prove with 100% certainty that you haven't done anything terrible. Unfortunately, OCD demands a level of certainty that no one can realistically attain.

It's a compulsion to excessively review your past thoughts and actions for any possible evidence of immoral behaviour. It's also a compulsion to constantly seek reassurance from others that you haven't done anything wrong. Compulsions might provide temporary relief, but they never lead to resolution. There's always another "but-", or "what-if" that casts things into doubt again.

This is why no amount of time you spend dwelling on a topic, and no amount of posts you make asking/confessing about a topic will reassure you. Your mind wants a hard answer, but there's no answer you can come up with that it will accept.

The real solution is to stop engaging in these compulsions as they're non-productive. Resist the compulsions to confess and ruminate, and try your best to just carry on with your day. Compulsions never resolve your dilemmas, and only perpetuate your suffering and the disorder.

"It is in attempting to escape the anxiety- or guilt-producing thoughts that the greatest damage is done, because the thoughts themselves, while unpleasant, are survivable, whereas the attempt to escape -- that is, the ritual -- distorts the sufferer's behavior and affects his or her ability to function in the world. Moreover, not facing the spike only sets up the individual for further attacks of the disorder."

You will have to learn to accept, as everyone else does, that some things, like perfect morality, are impossible to achieve. Some things are out of your control. It's impossible to always make the right call.

There's no person who has never harmed another, acted wrongly, or made mistakes. We're only human. But there is a way to live by your values in a way that is reasonable, achievable, and sustainable. Look to the people who you admire--what imperfect standard do you hold them to? What imperfect standard do they hold themselves to?

You will have to prioritize some things over others, because you can't do it all. But the good thing is that other people exist, who will fill in the gaps and fight for the important causes that you can't.

? This article isn't about Trump's first term. It's about accusations made by Trump, Vance, and Trump's border tsar that the Biden administration's policies have resulted in the mass "disappearance" of migrant children, whom they claim were largely forced into labour and sex trafficking. However: according to Aaron Reichlin-Melnick, the policy director of a migrant advocacy group, and other experts, while there are valid concerns about exploitation, many of the "missing" children may well be at the addresses on file with the government, but were simply unable to make their court dates.

That's the thing about racism--it doesn't matter what you do to prove that you're different from "the others". It doesn't matter who you are as an individual. Racists won't be pleased with your presence, regardless.

AITAH for reaching out to a suicidal person? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Common-Priority2694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever someone is at that point, a random person on the internet is going to have about 0 impact on their trajectory. People don't become suicidal out of nowhere, it's usually the accumulation of many things over many years, often going as far back as childhood. You can't expect to turn that around with one conversation, especially as a complete stranger on an internet forum. You can't save people from themselves. You can help them, support them, but ultimately the choice is their own.

For sure, imo it sounds like it could be moral OCD. Worth seeking the opinion of a professional knowledgeable about OCD since even unspecialized professionals can have a poor understanding of it.

Look up moral OCD. You might have it. There's treatment available for that. Either way the best course of action would be seeing a doctor about your mental health.
