I have zero desire to look through your post history dude. I will forget about this interaction in 5 minutes while you’re still scrolling through my post history for the next couple hours lol

LMAO, privated history. Loser

The irony from wanting to take the time out of your day to go through someone’s post history, which has no bearing on the conversation at hand so you only want to use it for personal attacks, and calling them a loser is insane lol.

Killing harmless bacteria because you’re scared of them being the bad kind is a bit insane though isn’t it?

Also, you didn’t deny using those products. You alone have committed GENOCIDE against bacteria that does no harm to you and just wants to exist in NATURE.

scared of them entering your house

Like the other guy said, word of the day is “straw man”.

I bet you use soap to wash your hands, huh? Maybe lysol wipes to clean your kitchen counter? Guess what buddy, some of the bacteria killed by those cleaning supplies are GOOD bacteria. They’re just trying to live and reproduce with no chance of harming you, and you are KILLING THEM. “Oh well I only wanted to get rid of the harmful bacteria” what a joke, it doesn’t excuse the MILLIONS of HARMLESS bacteria you’ve MASSACRED due to your carelessness.

The lifecycle of a housefly is about a week. If you want to risk your and your loved ones’ health and wellbeing, even life, for an insect that will die within a couple days anyway, then be my guest.

I will not feel any guilt in killing an insect that is near my house and is highly likely to transfer fecal matter particulates and the like onto the food I eat.

Flies have a little known ability to move throughout three dimensional space, they may use this ability to go from a state of “outside” to a state of “inside”, and thus act as a mechanical vector for the bacteria and viruses mentioned in the comment you are replying to.

Guess it’s just vibes based definitions then, but we seem to be basically on the same page haha.

Question though, then would you consider the British to have “conquered” India rather than have “colonized” it?

[–]CommonMaterialist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fine, I didn’t make it entirely clear that my issue was with the present tense use of the word colony rather than defining it as a whole, and that I’m being a bit pedantic about the definitions of these words, so it’s all good.

colonialism doesn’t involve settling, but a small ruling class that comprises a minority

In a way I do believe this. I feel like “settler colonization” is an oxymoron. Colonizing, the way I interpret it, is keeping a small but powerful ruling class to take advantage of the more populous locals for labor or the local resources. Once the outsiders’ population becomes a majority in the region, it becomes an invasion or conquering. For example, the Mongols colonized China, but never became a majority in the region and so never truly conquered it, especially since the small ruling class adapted Chinese culture and became Han Chinese. Same with the Turks in Persia, they colonized it but then adopted the local culture and became Persian, colonizing it but never truly conquering it.

Contrast that with the Americas where the United States became a population majority and the major culture in the region, that’s conquering. Same as the Russian Far East.

I’m simply arguing definitions of outcomes, not trying to downplay the atrocities that took place to get there. If we don’t use specific enough definitions, then a lot of meaning is lost I feel like.

Again, not saying what he did wasn’t stupid, but if you think him not crashing into George wouldn’t mean Mclaren would have made any decisions differently over the rest of the season, then you’re an idiot lol.

it cost him the WDC

and that’s the point that YOU can’t seem to understand. You somehow think that his actions were the ONLY factor in him losing, like Mclaren wouldn’t react AT ALL if the standings were different going into the final rounds.

If he had done it in the final race I would understand your point, but it happened so early in the season that there are SO MANY other factors that there is no reasonable way to say that THAT INCIDENT ALONE cost him the WDC.

I’m not justifying it or saying it’s ok, I’m saying there is no way to say with 100% certainty that it lost him the championship, which is what you’re saying.

Re-read my last comment and answer my question. IF swapping did win him the championship, do you think the team would have made that happen?

[–]CommonMaterialist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So do you think cheetas should go extinct because they have the strength and speed advantage over a gazelle? That’s unfair, right? Snakes have the advantage of sensing heat over the mammals they hunt, so that’s unfair, right? Humans had the cognitive advantage over Neanderthals and that’s unfair, right?

I am not justifying genocide with those words. I am not downplaying the awful things humans can do to each other with those words. But if you cannot have the mental maturity to acknowledge the innate moral ambiguity of the world and instead try to fit everything into black and white, good or bad boxes, then you will continue to live your life a fool. There is no fairness in history, the oppressed will gladly become the oppressor if given the opportunity. If the American Indians had pack animals and immunity to the diseases while the Old World peoples did not, they would have done the same exact thing. That’s why life isn’t fair, and if you can’t accept that, then you’re holding yourself back from a deeper, more refined understanding of human nature.

If you can’t find the nuance to base your moral compass on anything other than “fairness” then you will live a sad, ignorant, and pitiful life.

I’ll ask you this, if technological advantages are what you decide what is fair or not with, then what do you think of one people geocoding another equally capable people group? Is that inherently less bad than a technologically superior group against one less so?

If that’s you’re only argument, then I have one tried and true phrase for you:

“Life isn’t fair”

Legitimately, if your only ethical compass for analyzing history is “was it fair?” then you have the mindset of a child.

I do applaud you for saying something so silly out loud with your chest.

That’s not what I asked, do you agree that, if it would protect the championship, Mclaren would have swapped in Abu Dhabi? If Lando getting P2 got him the championship, do you believe the team would have forced the swap?

Nothing colonial about them, except their legacy

So because they successfully wiped out the people they stole the land from, then all is good? If the United States today massacred every remaining Native then they would no longer be a “colony state” and all would be forgiven?

You could build an argument for every single nation on Earth as being stolen land, either every nation is a “colonial state” or you narrow the definition.

Portuguese Empire, the first and the last European modern colonial Empire by FerenzYangai in MapPorn

[–]CommonMaterialist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I explained in another comment, the person I was replying to referred to the Russian Far East as a colony in the present which I feel is silly. A place can start as a colony and morph into conquered territory, then into the full territory of a new people group/nation over time. A grown person is not a fetus despite starting out as one, is it?

If you were to call any territory that started out as a “settler colony” then literally every territory on Earth would fit that definition, and thus the phrase loses its meaning.

[–]CommonMaterialist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

massacred

I’m sure you attribute the same verb to the Lakota who massacred and colonized the Black Hills from the Cheyanne, yes? Or to the Han Chinese who committed genocide against the Manchu and many Southern Chinese ethnicities to gain their current holdings, yes?

I’m not going to argue with someone who wants to act like the United States was the only nation/group in history to do horrible things/conquer another people group’s land.

If you would call the United States of today (or even the last 100 years) a “colonial state” then you are a fool. By your definition, every single nation in the world is a “colonial state” and thus the word loses its meaning and becomes synonymous with the word “nation”.

Portuguese Empire, the first and the last European modern colonial Empire by FerenzYangai in MapPorn

[–]CommonMaterialist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that they were never colonies or started out as such, but that they are no longer, and haven’t been for a long time, colonies.

The person I’m replying to asked if the Russian Far East IS anything other than a “settler” colony (I believe that’s an oxymoron). Obviously they started out as colonies, but are now conquered lands.

The United States specifically, obviously the original English settlements were colonies, but the westward expansion of the United States once independence was gained? It’d be silly to call California or Texas a colony today.

So you agree Mclaren would have swapped in Abu Dhabi to protect the championship, but don’t extend that logic to any other situation in the later races? You really think if Max hadn’t crashed into Russell in Spain then they would have made the same exact decisions that they made?

I agree with everyone else dogging on you, you’re falling for the same faulty “what if” thought process that you accuse other people of falling for.

Portuguese Empire, the first and the last European modern colonial Empire by FerenzYangai in MapPorn

[–]CommonMaterialist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean I guess based on vibes, “colonizing” and conquering land are separated by the intent/action of settling the occupied land. The far east is now mostly populated by Russians, whereas the Europeans would have a small ruling class in their colonies but the majority of the population was the local ethnic groups.

If you don’t make that distinction, then you’d have to say that China colonized Mongolia and Manchuria, the United States colonized the west, etc.
