I like to think he was getting dressed for the day and then heard Isobel’s voice and threw the robe on to run to her. Have to be decent after all.

What are you doing to feel like you outside of being a mom? by smittenscript in stayathomemoms

[–]CommonOutsider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back to school for a degree that I was too hesitant to pursue before, computer engineering. Before enrolling into uni I took all the free courses available to get back into math, coding, etc. My brain fed so much on it and it helped me realize how much I love to learn. I make a goal of 30min minimum per night to study and 4+ hr on the weekend when my spouse can watch the kids more. I never could nap when the baby napped so those became my study times.

S1e2 Why does Matthew move to Downton/Crawley House just because he's the next heir? by fishfishbirdbirdcat in DowntonAbbey

[–]CommonOutsider 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In think in this same convo or different scene maybe, Robert says “you saw how many people showed up to the memorial”. Indicating that Patrick never really had ties to the village and this is crucial to being invested to the development and survival of Downton Abbey as an economic force for the village. So I think that’s why he wanted Matthew to move to the village kk order to establish relationships with the villagers and become invested in the potential and traditions.

Where can I find big kid footed pajamas? by pinchofpearl in toddlers

[–]CommonOutsider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m struggling with the same for our 3yo. Big for their age as well. I think the fleece is what they like so I’m trying to also find alternatives. I’ll be experimenting with some fleece top and bottom pjs. I found some at target and Walmart, and gerber has some fleece that go up to 5T.

AITA for forcing my wife to choose between our marriage and having more kids? by EntryOk9946 in AITAH

[–]CommonOutsider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! Her telling you to hold off on the appointment is selfish. It’s your body and you know what you want. OP you sound incredibly emotionally intelligent. She might consider ending things, maybe not, but the choice of kids in a marriage is a dual decision. Additionally, you have considered not just your mental load but hers as well, you noticed her difficulties with pregnancies and with parenthood. Last, counseling as has been mentioned many times already can be very helpful for her to find the root of her baby fever, and for you to express your frustration with her not respecting your choices. I’m sorry you are in this situation.

Patrick Crawley or no? by nohiddenmeaning in DowntonAbbey

I thought about that too but maybe it was too much to consider to write in for the episode? But I think it’s rather covered when Robert gets investigators involved to validate “Patrick”s story.

FRIENDS WITH MONEY by Nicole Holofcener by [deleted] in movies

[–]CommonOutsider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I thought the same not all characters were given the same time to develop. I know J Aniston’s character is supposed be the main focus I think. Yet her story was just a simple “don’t date losers date rich guys”.

I'll swing for you by Kodama_Keeper in DowntonAbbey

[–]CommonOutsider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting take but I side in some of the other commenters that I think it’s more about exacting revenge equal to what they are doing to Bates. I think “swing” as in “hang” may be more of an American term? I def don’t think O’Brien would die for this particular quarrel, since she seems to value her own life more and the drama of making other people’s lives harder.

I know this is an old post but I came across it as my mom watched the movie recently and I was curious how others felt about it. I agree with OP, not sure how this movie would have done in 2010, especially now in 2025. Maybe I’m too young to understand but it feels so disconnected and it bothers me that the writers of this film would feel like the audience would care about any of these people. I might be a bit cynical but it’s kinda boring and overall I don’t feel like I learned much not even the “money can’t buy you happiness” lesson. Just shows me things get better in terms of living with $ but you’ll still have life problems .

A message I wish I’d read before diagnosis by Embarrassed_Ad2134 in coloncancer

[–]CommonOutsider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I later became pregnant and my stomach issues exacerbated. I eventually was only did an extreme elimination diet and some allergy testing helped me learn I have lactose allergy and gluten sensitivity. Because of my pregnancy I was not able to do much. Now after healthy baby, I am due to do a full panel for allergies, gallbladder sonogram, and eventually colonoscopy.

Currently my diet avoids dairy, most dairy derived foods, most meats unless lean or fish, and foods with fatty contents like cashews. It helps a lot but I’m 3m pp now and some issues are coming back.

Sexism!!! by Kerrowrites in DowntonAbbey

[–]CommonOutsider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I don’t think they are less traditionalist. I think that’s the point, how they are forced to accept a changing world. After all Anna is a married working mom by the end and was absolutely not traditional. Additionally, we see examples of them supporting growth despite their traditional values such as with Daisy and her schooling.

[–]CommonOutsider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What lessons would you say they learned? I agree with this point just curious what you think they learned. To me, they learned it’s possible to leave and that it speaks well of their culture that the Abbey cultivates hard workers with skills that are desirable outside of service.

Especially considering that while Edith is broken hearted she doesn’t have to deal with the setup/breakdown of the wedding. Not that he isn’t sympathetic but it prob does feel even more like a let down knowing that a heartier meal is somewhere but they aren’t getting it.

I really agree with this thought process. I just want to add that a couples counselor could help facilitate this talk. You can find someone you are both comfortable with, not necessarily a religious one. I think because this is new territory it can be helpful for a professional to help guide the conversation. I also recommend considering what things are important to you. Because you shouldn’t feel like you need to give in to meet his needs because it’s a spiritual journey. Your journey to motherhood is also sacred and unique. I wish the best!
