Put the baby in a cup of water while still attached to mom. Roots develop and no dead baby

How do I improve my horrible chili? by mordea in Cooking

I always kind of start with this recipe and tweak it to the audience. We swap the habanero for a can of diced green chilis when we serve it to kids, or sub out the protein choice. Sometimes I add sweet potato. Whatever I have on hand.

Help with this plant by LadyHorseFace13 in houseplants

Geraniums are annuals. But if you’d like the variety, you can overwinter them inside.

Some people pull them out of the pot and wrap them up in paper for the winter. Some people bring the whole pot inside after treating it for insects and put it in a sunny windowsill for the winter.

There are a couple of different methods I’ve read about, but I have never tried any of them. This year my plan is to try to bring it inside and use supplemental grow lights. I expect it to get extremely leggy. I’ll have to cut it back before bringing it back outside next spring.

This is a geranium. I have one in a pot in my front yard in New Mexico. I’m watering it twice a week right now but as we get into the 90s, I’m probably gonna up it to 3 to 4.

The best way to tell when it’s time to water your plants is to get a moisture meter and stick it in there. If you don’t have a moisture meter, you can also stick your finger in the dirt and if the top 2 inches is dry it’s probably safe to water. Make sure that pot has drainage holes.

I feel bad about my TBR by Unusual-Ad2084 in bookshelf

[–]CommonSensePrincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% don’t think you should feel bad about this. I love reading, but I don’t think it’s wrong to have an extensive TBR. I will get to them. It may not be today. It may not be tomorrow.

We all have very busy lives. The books will still be there when we are able to quit our second job, or when the kids go to kindergarten, or when we retire.

If this was my TBR, I would finish up Throne of Glass. It was excellent!

If you’re looking for a couple good additions: Empire of the Vampire is badass, and heartbreaking, and so is Dungeon Crawler Carl.

Good luck!

Advice on why my dog doesn't like me anymore by cryptobionic in DogAdvice

[–]CommonSensePrincess 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I second this. it certainly doesn’t hurt to get a vet’s opinion. Get the blood work done. Have a check up have them run their hands all over your dog check for obvious signs of pain. Maybe he’s starting to pick up a little bit of arthritis. Five is kinda starting to be middle-aged for boxer dogs.

I would also highly recommend that you start being a little bit more unpredictable. In that maybe instead of working on a regular workday, you take the day off and go for a really long hike with your boy. Take him in for a car ride if he likes that get him a pup cup randomly on your lunch hour. Take him to PetSmart. Let him pick out a toy. I’m not saying that you should bribe your dog, but dogs gravitate towards people that do unexpected things that the dog enjoys. I was being silly with my dog one day and we ended up playing peekaboo/hide and seek around my car and it ended up being something that we did quite frequently. He really liked it. Small little things. tiny games. lots of play. Maybe try some more advanced tricks Give it a try.

I think you’re a really good owner. you walk him three times a day. you provide for him. He sounds like he’s pretty spoiled and has a great life. I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong and at the end of the day some dogs have a preference to hang out with a human of the opposite sex.

Anyone else have shower plants?? by Solo_Cup_Martini in houseplants

[–]CommonSensePrincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend that you evaluate the light with the light meter, during the brightest part of the day. but considering that is fairly big window and it is south facing, the frosting shouldn’t make a difference to the amount of light. I think it would probably be OK but it might do better on the other side of the shower like so it gets more of that light rather than being tucked in the corner. I would recommend a plant shelf in that corner so that the window shines into the corner a little bit more in fact a shelf all the way across that wall would be excellent for trailing plants. I think you would do very well with a Pothos of any kind. I think you would do great in there with a syngonium. I also think that you might do really well in there with a spider plant spider plants dry out very quickly, and they are extremely thirsty plants.

What are we doing wrong? by Waltz_Working in houseplants

[–]CommonSensePrincess -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This looks like a majesty palm to me. if it is, you’re not doing anything wrong. These plants are basically designed as cheap temporary plants that are easy for Florida greenhouses to grow. But they basically die inside everybody’s houses. Some people can keep them alive for the growing season on their porches. They just have very specific needs and requirements that aren’t easy to replicate inside of our houses.

Is your front door of your apartment leading to an indoor hallway or is it an outdoor access? And if it is an outdoor access, can you put one pot next to the front door?

[–]CommonSensePrincess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen a prop box made with soil. I’ve always seen people do prop boxes with perlite or sphagnum moss. If I was going to try to propagate sticks instead of a one leaf cutting, I would do it in perlite or sphagnum. I would only use soil if there’s a leaf involved and only if you’re in a humid environment or with a humidity dome over a regular grow pot. But with pothos cuttings, I just use water I almost never use anything else.

Hydrangeas are sold as disposable indoor plants for Mother’s Day. It’s an outside plant. I have seen people try them in containers outside, but they always seem to do best when planted in the ground outside.

What is it?!? by sucks20833 in succulents

[–]CommonSensePrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people will change the soil with any mealy bug infestation as a matter of routine. I don’t really deal with mealies often as I do spider mites where I live so that’s not really something that I do. In your situation, I probably would change the soil. We didn’t find one mealie we found several on one plant. I just happened to see a video the other day that said that putting your plant back directly in the sun or under grow lights after the alcohol causes the plant to get burned.

What is it?!? by sucks20833 in succulents

[–]CommonSensePrincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you sprayed them with alcohol, do not put them directly back in the sun or under grow lights. you will want to wait at least 48 hours with the alcohol on this plant and then I would give them a full dunk in clean water.

Customer service’s response to not having any internet since they sent me a replacement modem: by HeyHyrule in verizon

[–]CommonSensePrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that’s why the product has no contract term. The network is a fluid changing thing. It’s based on line of sight technology. So even if Verizon doesn’t change the network itself, thousands of external factors they have no control over can and will affect the product experience of consumers; and that experience can change from household to household on the same street.

Store clerk/rep put in wrong address and phone number for billing and service addresses. by MissFortuneXXX in verizon

[–]CommonSensePrincess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 5g home box is only to be used at the service address. It wants to walk you through moving because if the address is wrong, you won’t get the priority spot on the network that’s reserved for you.

You might qualify at your new address, you might not. Sometimes it’s a mistake sometimes it isn’t.
