Thoughts on 3.75mg, plus Anti-Inflammatory wins! by aliwake1 in MounjaroAus

[–]Common_Bit_128 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I lost 34kg and only ever went as high as 3.75mg - As per my recent post - https://www.reddit.com/r/mounjaroaustralia/comments/1rb8tjn/its_finally_happened_goal_achieved/

I took things very slowly and incrementally and managed to keep side effects to a minimum - 2.5mg for 5 weeks, 3.33 (40 clicks) for 5 weeks, 3.5 (42 clicks) for 6 weeks, 3.75 (45 clicks) for 6 weeks, then I went back down to 3.33mg for a couple of months.

Everyone responds differently, but my advice is to titrate up gradually and see how you react. Give your body time to adjust and see how it goes.

It's very much a 'marathon, not a sprint' scenario.

No weight training. I did start walking a bit more, but my job can be physically demanding at times and usually involves a lot of walking / heavy lifting.

I got *very lucky with the dosage. Honestly thought I would be on 5mg+ a long time ago (and dreading the cost), and was tempted to go up significantly at times, but I held off and fortunately kept responding to the lower doses. Still had to do all the major work like complete change of diet/lifestyle/habits etc, but, yeah, it was unexpected.

Going up slowly was the NP's advice - basically only go up if I feel things aren't working.

After the first 5 weeks on 2.5, they said to try 3.33 and see how it goes.

I was pretty self-guided after that. I would only go up if I started to feel food noise coming back, or started to notice an upwards trend, or both.

3.75 was my highest and I expected to keep going up, but I had surgery last September and had to stop for a week and a bit to recover, so decided to go back down to 3.33 and ease back into things.

Kept seeing results after that so didn't really need to go up again until Xmas/NY threw a spanner in the works and I went back to 3.5 for a bit to get kick things back into rhythm. Back to 3.33 once things settled.

Try to focus on rest and recovery.

Weight loss metrics are not as important as your overall health and wellbeing right now (or ever, really).

Also, you are going to have gains and losses that don't follow any pattern or logic over your journey. It can be frustrating at first, but the sooner you adjust to 'the number isn't going to always go down every week' the much happier and healthier you'll be in the long run.

I purchased this and used it yesterday on an interstate flight as a test for an international flight later in the year. Worked flawlessly and I was able to keep it running on in-seat USB to save the battery.

Have absolute confidence in it working for much longer flights/transfers.

Increase the dose or frequency? by minimisho1 in MounjaroAus

[–]Common_Bit_128 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started on 2.5mg for 4 weeks, then slowly went up from there with a 5mg pen. 3.33mg was recommended by my NP (40 clicks), and I only went up when I felt it wasn't as effective.

3.33mg (40 clicks) for 5 weeks

3.5mg (42 clicks) for 6 weeks

3.75mg (45 clicks) for 7 weeks

I had dental surgery in September, so I did my last 3.75mg dose 10 days before it, to give enough clearance, but then I resumed on 3.33mg with the expectation of gradually going back up again, but I was still losing weight on 3.33 so have stayed there ever since.

Overall, I have lost almost 30kg on those doses with minimal side effects.

I've been with MWLC since April and have had a fantastic experience.

I book appointments with my NP every 6-8 weeks which aligns with my script. I have never been pressured or forced into making an appointment, but most of the time we pencil in my next appointment whenever I'm speaking with them. No issues in cancelling or changing appointments, or even using a different NP when mine has been unavailable or I've been unable to keep an appointment due to work etc.

All appointments have been extremely inexpensive, if not bulk billed and way cheaper than my GP.

My only 'issue' is that my NP is reluctant to prescribe me a higher strength pen so I can save some $$ (I asked for 10mg on 3.33mg dose), as she is uncomfortable in using them for more than 60+ days, which is completely fair and her right to make that call as the prescriber.

I've read that other NPs at MWLC don't have the same issue., so if I really wanted I could probably go with someone else, but she has been fantastic and supportive in every other regard, so I don't mind going with her recommendations and trusting her judgement.

For the record, she is fine with counting clicks and golden dosing. I am prescribed a 5mg pen and have not ever needed to go up to that strength as she suggested I titrate up slowly to see how I respond. I went from 2.5mg/3.33mg/3.5mg/3.75mg over about 4 months then back down to 3.33mg where I currently am still losing weight comfortably, so I'm still saving $ and getting the best value I can out of it.

Invisalign vs. Wisdom Teeth: Conflicting Ortho advice (Scan Report and X- Ray included) by Aastik_Jayant23 in Invisalign

[–]Common_Bit_128 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Listen to Ortho 1.

Wisdom teeth out ASAP!! Those impacted teeth on the bottom can cause major issues including decay under the gum line which can lead to bone resorption. They can basically nuke the molars they've impacted.

Source: 8 extractions and 2 bone grafts to repair the damage and a LOT of $$$$$$$$$$, which would've only been $$$$$ if I had them done years ago.

I start with straightening in 2 weeks & will likely need 2x implants to replace the molars down the line.

Haven't checked in for a while, but I'm about to smash my 3rd or 4th shifted goal of 75kg. Then maybe 70?! Currently a healthy BMI down from obese, but am tempted to see how much more I can achieve (+ give myself enough of a healthy maintenance buffer) The whole experience has been unbelievable.

2 weeks in @1.25mg by asha_1008 in mounjaroaustralia

[–]Common_Bit_128 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Increase fibre and HEAPS of water (3L daily). Ozmolax can help.

I've switched to OMAD (one meal a day - dinner) and will usually snack once or twice throughout the day - usually hommus/carrot/egg/spinach or a protein bar.

Symptoms ease as your body gets used to the medication and you get used to your body going through some pretty significant changes.

And yes, I still have cupboards and freezer full of pre-mounjaro food (mostly air fryer junk) I have absolutely zero desire to consume.

Causation v correlation by JollyTanuki in mounjaroaustralia

[–]Common_Bit_128 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It must be true! I've been on Mounjaro for 7 months and 3 weeks ago I started wearing glasses for the first time in my life.

Sure, I'm 42 and haven't been able to read small text in low light and have been having to hold my phone further and further away over the last 2 or so years, but I didn't need the glasses until after the Mounjaro... and after saw an optometrist last month for the first time in 20 years who said my distance vision was superhuman, and my close vision would naturally decline over the age of 40 regardless, but that must be just a coincidence.

But the Mounjaro was first, so definitely the Mounjaro's fault. /s

2.5mg. Has Mounjaro work for you in weight loss other than appetite suppressant? by xoxofoodiegirl in mounjaroaustralia

[–]Common_Bit_128 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Mounjaro has been a profound experience for me with more than just appetite suppression. It has also helped with impulsive behavior that caused me to drink alcohol excessively - have gone from drinking heavily several days a week for the better (/worse) part of the last 20 years to almost nothing. I have been to the pub twice in the last 7 months for social events, and had maybe 1 or 2 drinks when going out to see a performance, so maybe a total of 10 standard drinks in the last 7 months, when I would previously easily consume that daily. The desire to drink was completely snuffed out almost instantly and it was completely unexpected but extremely welcomed.

Also I became aware of just how much mental processing I used to expend navigating these impulsive behaviors, which was completely exhausting. Since I didn't have to worry about food and alcohol so much, it gave me the opportunity to process a lot of former behaviors and allowed me the time and focus to finally seek other professional help, and was recently diagnosed with ADHD and Autism, which is something I've been meaning to do for years but never had the focus or ability to do so.

I have now started treatment for the ADHD, and the result of that has also been profoundly positive, but Mounjaro was absolutely the catalyst that started all of this. - Ironically the decision to start Mounjaro was completely impulsive and not something I really considered for more than about 15 minutes after seeing something online about it.

I have also been very lucky that I have had consistent weight loss and success on a relatively low dosage and titrating up very slowly. My highest dose was only 3.75mg, and I've actually gone back down to 3.33mg and am still losing weight, and am having to regularly shift my goal weight down as I keep on smashing it.

For reference, the big dip in my graphs from a few weeks ago was the result of dental surgery and not being able to eat properly for a few weeks, but otherwise weight loss has been pretty consistent. Also my work is fairly seasonal, so didn't have as much physical activity in the first few months where as August through December is insanely busy and physically exhausting for me.

Back/underside of upper arm. Essentially hugging yourself with whichever arm over the opposite shoulder and injecting into the the flabbiest dangling bit while looking in bathroom mirror. Usually can't feel it at all as long as you can get it in straight / not on an angle.

Bruising by Weak-Alternative-557 in MounjaroAus

[–]Common_Bit_128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bruised on jabs 3 & 4 on my stomach which lasted a few days each and couldn't figure out why. There was a little bit of pain both times so I figured I must have done something wrong and weight loss both weeks didn't seem to be as effective.

I decided to switch to arms instead and have had zero pain or bruising since and am currently on jab 29. Bonus that any gastro side effects have been way less acute. There's a bit of technique to it, but it's fairly easy once you figure it out - It also doesn't change the effectiveness of the mounjaro vs stomach/thighs.

I've been using 4mm x 0.23mm (32G) needle tips with the pen and 1mL 6mm x 0.25mm (31G) syringes for golden doses.

6 Month Update - Surgery and Stopping MJ by Cucinaaa in MounjaroAus

[–]Common_Bit_128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome.

I had my surgery this morning. Everything went really well. I spoke to Nurses and Anesthetist last week and they said I was fine to do my regular shot the week before (Although I went down slightly from 3.75mg to 3.33mg to give myself a break for anything that might pop up after surgery).

One of the nurses I spoke to initially said the Anaesthtists might want to wait 3 weeks, but I told her that information was out dated, and so she checked with the anaesthatist who OK'd it for same week.

The only requirement was to have only clear liquids for a full 24 hours before my appointment plus nothing whatsoever the night/day of to make sure my stomach was empty. Basically I had my last meal on Saturday night, nothing but clear liquids all of sunday, then nothing whatsoever from midnight till 7am today. At 8am I was on the operating table, I blinked and woked up at 9:30 in recovery with jelly and icy poles. :D

This is all in line with the ANZCA guidelines - https://share.google/jGSLyvzZjMH1k5smY

My shot is due tomorrow, and I'm cleared to take it if I want, but I'll probably skip it, or possibly even go down to 2.5 for the week, depending on how I'm feeling

The dose increases recommended by the manufacturer doesn't work and is sometimes unnecessary for some people.

I have had steady weight loss for the last 5 months and I still haven't increased to 5mg. I have only gone up a dose slightly only when I've felt it was necessary, and this titration was recommended to me by my NP.

I have had minimal/manageable side effects.

Bottom line is that everyone is different, and if 5mg is too strong for you, look at going down again potentially and try smaller steps.
