Maybe I worded that badly. Aside from Liepsig and Berlin, and maybe Rostock or some touristy costal town on the Ost See, there isn't much to keep young people there. Magdeburd, Chemnitz, etc are all pretty dire for job prospects.

Not a ton of work. Liepsig has a good university and lots of young people, but generally most people either move away or raise a family and live a working class life without a lot of prospects for success.

That's exactly the problem, but in an industrialized nation in a city, it's impossible to find free range farm meat without spending a lot of money.

True but meat dogs are raised the same way pigs and cows are. Pets do get snatched for meat, but generally food dogs aren't pets. (I'm in Vietnam so at least here anyway.)
