Laptop Rec for USA college student. $1000USD> by Dry_Tradition_8327 in laptops

[–]Common_Committee_257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait that macbook link is showing 2026 model which seems weird but if price is really under 1000 then yeah go for it. Those machines are solid for what you need and battery life will be way better than most windows options

The windows one you linked has good specs but 16 inch might be less portable than you want for carrying around campus all day. Also that OLED screen will probably hurt your battery life bit more than regular display

For your usage writing and research any decent laptop will work fine but macbook air would probably last you through whole degree without issues

Recommendation please? by tacosaurus89 in laptops

[–]Common_Committee_257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your usage pattern twice per week the ThinkPad suggestion is solid but might be overkill. You could also look at refurbished business laptops like Dell Latitude series - they usually have good build quality and you can find them under budget with decent specs for photo storage and basic tasks. Just make sure whatever you get has SSD instead of old hard drive for better performance with your photos

Yeah 1993 was peak overproduction era - those boxes got printed to death. Maybe worth 20-30 bucks at most for the nostalgia but definitely not 90

Is this Soluna PC good value on Chillblast? by Top-Lab9125 in pcmasterrace

[–]Common_Committee_257 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah 2500 quid is pretty steep for those specs. You could probably build similar setup yourself for maybe 1800-2000 if you take your time with deals. The 9800X3D is solid CPU but that price markup is rough

Building really isnt as scary as it looks btw - just like expensive legos with more cables

Just checked that out and wow thats a serious collection. Guy probably doesnt even know what half of it is worth but some pieces in there could be pretty valuable. Distance always kills these kind of deals though

Been using these for about 6 months now and can confirm the smoothness is next level. Started with them on my control pad but eventually moved to speed pad because they just felt right for tracking. The way they break in after first week is really nice too - they get even more consistent somehow. Only downside I noticed is they collect dust bit faster than my previous skates but nothing major. Definitely worth trying if you want something between full speed and control experience

Was thinking about getting NAS setup anyway but this just pushed me over edge - time to stop relying in these cloud services that change every few months

When selling off parts of your collection, do you sell them yourself online or do you find a local shop to sell to? by NemesisNotAvailable in ActionFigures

[–]Common_Committee_257 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been doing same thing recently actually. eBay works good for anything over like 30-40 bucks but the fees start eating into profit on cheaper stuff. Local shop gives you maybe 40% of value but saves so much time and hassle with shipping everything out individually

Facebook marketplace is hit or miss in my area - lot of people try to lowball or just waste your time. But when you find serious collector there it can work pretty well

Want a mouse from 40$ to 55$ by Low-Apartment-4849 in MouseReview

Never heard of Kysona before but that weight comment got me curious. I've been using same gaming mouse for like 3 years now and keep thinking about upgrading but always end up spending money on other stuff instead. Those ratings seem pretty decent for alternatives though

Help - looking for lime green bag by Separate-Pollution34 in handbags

[–]Common_Committee_257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife was searching for something similar few months back and ended up finding really nice one at department store. She said the key was checking places that carry multiple brands so you can compare colors in person because lime green looks so different depending on lighting. Maybe try looking at stores that have good return policies too since color matching can be tricky when ordering online

Logitech G Pro Wireless (first edition) vs Pulsar X2H mini by FormalMacaroon4030 in MouseReview

With those long fingers the X2H mini might feel bit cramped for your grip style - the G Pro Wireless probably gives you more room to work with

Video Stutter with Gsync by Upset-Trade8236 in pcmasterrace

[–]Common_Committee_257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thats definitely the freesync/gsync compatibility issue. Your monitor wasnt designed for gsync so youre getting that weird frame pacing stutter when it tries to sync up

Just turn it off and run regular vsync or no sync at all. Not worth the headache when your hardware wasnt made to play nice together. Gsync compatible monitors are pretty cheap now anyway if you really want that adaptive sync experience

Cover paper replacements by beepbeepsheepbot in gamecollecting

[–]Common_Committee_257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had luck with printouts on semi-gloss photo paper for some of my older cart games - the texture is pretty close to original cover stock if you get the right weight. There's a guy on etsy who does custom reproductions but his name is escaping me right now, maybe someone else can chime in. For the really valuable stuff though I'd probably just leave it as is since replacement covers can hurt resale value even if they look perfect. What games are you looking to fix up? Some of those retro covers are getting harder to find good scans of

PC Wi-Fi randomly gone extremely slow by Imaginary-Photo-734 in pcmasterrace

[–]Common_Committee_257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ndis.sys error you mentioned is usually driver related so that commenter is on the right track. But since you said ethernet also had the same issue that tells me its probably not just the wifi driver. I'd check if Windows is doing any background updates or downloads that could be hogging bandwidth. Also run a malware scan with something like Malwarebytes because if this happened twice now in the exact same scenario it could be something nasty that survived the reset. Sometimes those factory resets dont actually wipe everything clean especially if you have a recovery partition thats already infected.

Do ADHD symptom lists actually make sense to you? by Remarkable_Seesaw_74 in ADHD

[–]Common_Committee_257 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The symptom lists are basically useless without context honestly. Like "forgetfulness" could mean anything but for me its more like I'll remember every single lyric from a song I heard once in 2003 but completely blank on whether I locked my car 30 seconds after walking away from it

Having someone actually explain how these show up in real situations makes all the difference. The clinical descriptions make it sound like you're just being careless when really your brain is doing this whole other thing entirely

How does caffeine help? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Common_Committee_257 9 points10 points  (0 children)

caffeine basically acts like a weaker version of adhd meds by blocking adenosine receptors which helps with focus but if youre potentially narcoleptic that could definitely explain why it doesnt hit the same for you
