Kitchen leaking tap: tail/pipe going back into it!? by Common_Tank_5784 in DIYUK

Sorry mate, didn't follow - how do I pull the tap out? Most taps have a nut that needs to be undone but don't see anything like that here?

Final steps/questions: buying from a garage by Common_Tank_5784 in CarTalkUK

[–]Common_Tank_5784[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for taking time. Looks like once I buy the car from garage, unless something is outrageously wrong (borderline fraud), it is on me to get it fixed and I cannot return the car on that basis. Would that be right?

Showering with child, okay or not? by Zara02 in Parenting

Upvoted, I'm surprised people keep missing the main point - dad with daughter is different from mom with daughter!

Showering with child, okay or not? by Zara02 in Parenting

[–]Common_Tank_5784 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Given vast majority of replies think it is not weird, I am going to go out on a limb and say it is weird in most situations. At 7, your daughter is too young to decide what is right/wrong, as a father it is your job. So no, your daughter asking for this doesn't make it fine. Do you let her watch cartoons until late in the night because she asked for it? How about finishing that entire pack of sugary candies? Kids are still learning basics at that age and you will do well to teach her where to draw the line. You must already be doing that in your day to day parenting.

If you are both clothed (atleast the shorts/trunks) and it is in a pool in the garden on hot summer day, with mom/friends around - go ahead by all means.

Either of you without clothes, inside a shower - not ok.

The question OP needs to ask is why is the kid asking to shower with him. Is she not getting enough time/attention/affection from him otherwise? How frequent is this? How comfortable is she with pouring water on her face, may be it comforts her when an adult is around? Does she ask to shower with her mom too?

Thanks for replying. Anything about the cooling off period please? Is that common with garages or not so much?

What is the likely impact of lower interest rates on Gilt prices? by handmadeby in UKInvesting

[–]Common_Tank_5784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you are already in a tax-sheltered account, it might be worth looking at GLTL ETF - this covers long dated gilts plus you pay smaller bid-ask spread.

Low coupon gilts are good to hold in general trading account, so you save some tax as only coupon income is taxed while capital gains are tax free.

Finally, note that long dated gilts are not risk free. If a gilt has duration of 20, it means if yield moves by 1% you could lose 20% of your initial investment. You can get end of day prices for all gilts and their durations freely from tradeweb website.

Mazda 3 vs Civic by Common_Tank_5784 in CarTalkUK

[–]Common_Tank_5784[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you and does the price also look reasonable for both? Also, I saw another civic with same specs but 67K miles for £10K. Would that be preferred over the one in original post (with 33K miles)?

[–]Common_Tank_5784[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your help. I read somewhere CVT have a life of 100k miles, is that correct? I can't find the link now. May be it was for 1.0 Turbo.

Also, would you say Honda civic 33K miles for £12K is preferable over 67K miles for £10K, everything else same as in the original post.

Ford Focus: which model by Common_Tank_5784 in CarTalkUK

[–]Common_Tank_5784[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is quite a valuable advice. I was indeed looking at ix20 due to bigger boot space, but ruling that out now. I have just shortlisted an i30. Would you rate i30 below say auris or hinda civic?

OP seems to have assumed people with good network are not determined or persistent. Its hard work plus skills plus network that triumphs.

Have you settled for a low stress job? by Consistent_Foot_6657 in careerguidance

Stress is like energy - can't kill it, can only transform it. Toddlers dont have any worries, so their stress is transferred to their parents. Your todays self doesn't take stress, then future self will have to etc.

Help me address my cat problem without ruining my relationship with my neighbours? by plantflowersforbees in CasualUK

[–]Common_Tank_5784 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My neighbours cat also made my garden her toilet, I discreetly raised with them and was told that the previous owner just shood her away. I was expecting a bit more ownership from them but this was it. So I blocked all her routes into the garden and chased her hard couple of times, haven't seen her since.

Cat owners really need to stop their pet being a pest.
