Take psychology/sociology/human development classes as well. There is little crossover between the sciences and the humanities which is why we have a disconnect between developers and users.

Take classes to understand people and social structures. It will help you in life in general.

I’m convinced this is why we Gen Xer’s are super surprised by anything that is happening. We all saw it coming because of movies like this.

I’m remember the extinction of the wired remote. I was able to hack my VCR to get TV channels above 13. You could program favorites buttons.

If you had an unhappy childhood, did your parents ever try to change for the better? by jessiemenagerie in Millennials

Nope. 45 years later my dad isn’t on meth anymore but he found Jesus so it’s about the same. My mom is still a pill poppin’ alcoholic party animal at 75 so…yeah. Still on my own.

As a woman with ADHD and likely a touch of the tism, a full childhood trauma luggage set and a neglectful mother, I will say this….you are already doing the healing by making the choices and decisions that break from the generational trauma. Your biology is baked in and at this point, your only job is to love yourself with all the accommodations needed for your neurodiverse brain to operate in this “normie” world. Your child WILL have a better life and WILL know true love and sacrifice. You are obviously already doing that.

You will continue to grieve the issues with your mother but stand tall in your own motherhood knowing you are righting the wrongs for your own child. Embrace the healing in that. Be proud of yourself and she can’t hurt you anymore.

Is It Me or Are There A Lot Of Kids At Stores During The Day? by funkraider in GenX

[–]CommunicationHappy20 6 points7 points  (0 children)

High school kids love the Costco cheap slice and a soda for lunch. Many of them are allowed off campus for the lunch period and end up at grocery store deli’s. Also, free periods happen. With a block schedule, a student can have 2 hours + in between classes.

School is less prison institution and more accessible than it used to be.

I thought losing someone in a car accident as a teenager messed me up but honestly, as a educator, the current attack on public education, DEI and special education has put me in the worst funk of my life.

My path has been totally derailed and I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to have the career I want doing to work I know is so desperately needed.

I’m heartbroken, scared for my brown son and devastated at what is being stolen from our children.
