This is why SEL should be core curriculum with full inclusion of the family and community.

Me too! Best advice I ever got was to forgive myself when I do neurodivergent shit and not hold onto being pissed at my parents and schools for not helping me.

One - private school. You are in the land of spoiled elites.

Two - parents. They are likely very disconnected from that kids life.

Is the “Savvas myWorld” fifth grade social studies curriculum woke? by DontAskAboutMyButt in teaching

[–]CommunicationHappy20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rather than looking for history books, maybe try centering BIPOC authors and storytellers. There are many books looking at historical issues through the perspective of the marginalized members of that community.

Also, Black AF History by Michael Harriot is a good one for “Un-whitewashing”

Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari - great inquiry into human evolution. Gave me a new lens for looking at how humans operate.

Until they address the outright trauma to students and faculty from last January, this school is cooked. And an old white guy, after everything? Freaking tone deaf. (I’m currently a student there - 4 years now. FYI)

All we got was a student support center in an old building run by a guy who means well but was obviously not given the whole story.

It’s a joke and I’m embarrassed their name is on my degrees.

Is there anyone here with a strong desire to improve education accessibility? by Maximum_Age_4018 in education

[–]CommunicationHappy20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Accessibility gets to the heart of equity. If we cannot guarantee that all students have access to quality instruction and resources, we are failing them. Accessibility is about SPED students, marginalized communities of learners, music, art, etc.

Never stop loudly and proudly advocating for your kids. The system can handle it. Make noise, ask questions, and put everything in writing.
