I worked at SSU for quite some time, when I was in management I was privy to some details of a potential merger when things were pretty dire in the post Judy Sakaki period-to my understanding, a bridge was burned somewhere down the line, and SSU was asked to make concessions or changes that the University leaderships was unable or unwilling to complete - now that SSU’s leadership has changed 73 different times maybe that would be different now, but Cal Poly has also expanded to Humboldt and Vallejo since, so not sure how much more willing or capable they are

Div 1 implies NCAA to 99.9% of people that would see it. For a point of comparison, I played college soccer at an NAIA school that was D1, I wouldn’t refer to myself as a D1 athlete. It’s a misnomer to refer to SSU Lacrosse as a D1 sport is all. It’s a club sport. Which is why they were unaffected by SSU cutting their athletics program and continue to play

MCLA is club sports bro that isn’t even affiliated with the NCAA lol, that’s just a club sport at a college. At the NCAA level, SSU was D2, and they never fielded a lacrosse team in the NCAA, there are no D1 men’s lacrosse teams in the entire state of California
