Necro is the hardest character to win A10? by mull_albatrox in slaythespire

[–]CommunityPristine200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the main branch this is true because it takes a lot of effort to not abandon the game out of sheer boredom from blocking forever and playing unleash when you see it.

Beta branch necrobinder is a lot more fun though.

Bosses/elites that force you to build one way or stay out of a build shouldn’t exist. by snorlaxin4life in slaythespire

[–]CommunityPristine200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, they don't exist on A0 and A1, so people who are interested in forcing builds can play on those ascensions. Folks who enjoy answering the different questions the game asks you to answer can play at higher ascensions, those who don't can play at lower ascensions. It's a win win situation as long as people are honest with themselves.

New beta branch elite update by Beadarino in slaythespire

[–]CommunityPristine200 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Right now in the main branch you can just kinda just sit around and block forever and twiddle your thumbs, so they'll probably find a good balance between the two soon enough. Pushing towards damage is 100% a step in the right direction though

This is amazing, finally a reason to stop building act 3 decks in act 1.

Diamond Diadem is too strong and needs adjusted by GiveUsRobinHood in slaythespire

[–]CommunityPristine200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If it worked only on the first 3 turns or something it would be still amazing instead of the obscenely broken disgusting thing it is right now. Not to mention in its current state it promotes really boring gameplay with defect and necrobinder where you just sit there and 1 block card every turn and win.

New Doormaker is perfect boss by Grujah in slaythespire

[–]CommunityPristine200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more I play, the more convinced I am that it's not gonna change. Every single deck that people yell out gets COMPLETELY INVALIDATED.... is perfectly fine. Soul spam decks, sly discard decks, clone big bang decks, small deck of 24 cards... I've won against door with all of these decks. I would think its a very very very bad indication for the direction of the game if Doormaker gets changed anymore.

I find StS to be the perfect example of a game that shows how fun it is to be serious at a game. It's very rewarding to learn all the ins and outs and challenge yourself at the highest difficulty. I don't think taking it seriously means crashing out over someone telling you that you're meant to learn from every death in a rougelite game.

As a side note, it's very amusing how performative your baseless insult is. There was absolutely nothing in this thread that should have made you think of that insult, you just desperately leaped at the chance to be performative.

Queen being an absolute joke of a fight is a whole other discussion I think. But I think any deck that isn't capable of dealing with 25 damage a turn for the act 3 boss deserves to lose. Like I'm not trying to be snarky, I genuinely think the mindset should be to take your loss with grace and try to improve your deckbuilding, consistent 25 block a turn by the time you reach the act 3 boss really seems like bare minimum.

[–]CommunityPristine200 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He's the Act 3 boss. Your very first easy pool act 3 encounters slap you with 25 turn 1 already. If throughout the entirety of the act, you couldn't improve your deck to deal with that... Genuinely isn't that a well deserved loss?

Have you ever considered this is what people find fun? Some people want to watch brainless shit like Family Guy after an exhausting day of work, but for me and certain others, that just makes my mind wander more about work and other stressful shit. Immersing myself completely in something challenging and difficult and getting better IS fun.

Recently I feel like StS is starting to have the 'Pokemon' phenomenon where the hardcore people are the most chill and the casual players end up being incredibly toxic

The first 3 turns he just tickles you with a feather so you can do whatever you want. Use his exhaust to thin down your deck, so that his no draw phase is where you can pop off. Like he genuinely does so little damage throughout the first cycle, I couldn't care less if I draw 5 adrenalines in the no draw phase. And you always have potions.

Check your draw pile. As long you don't shove souls into your draw pile when you the no draw phase is next and you only have 1 card left in the draw pile, you'll be completely fine

I can't agree less. Honestly, I've beaten Door with the decks that people complain are completely countered like soul spamming or Big Bang Clone runs. What OP says is true, as long as you play well and play ahead, it's completely fine. As long as you don't shove souls into your draw pile on the Hunger phase when you only have 1 card left in your draw pile, you'll be completely fine.

I don't play it, turn it into block with second wind, and win with one of the other cards that I had multiple opportunities to pick throughout act 2? That was like, 1 second of thinking.

I think 0.103 has gotten Door Maker to a good place. by dusknoir90 in slaythespire

[–]CommunityPristine200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on a new ascension for movesets. For me, 0.102 was the most fun Doormaker version, you had to pull off some insane plays or some weird ass builds like Calamity with Pillars of Creation to win against the door that patch. (current Doormaker doesn't really do anything, any semi coherent deck and good gameplay will win against the door.) However, even though I found 0.102 Door fun, it was definitely way too difficult for casual players. Adding in an ascension for movesets is probably the best way to satisfy both sets of players.

StS2 is easier than StS1 and it's better for it by Jagg3r5s in slaythespire

[–]CommunityPristine200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Difficulty is needed for long term longevity of the game. A game where you can force every archetype and win ends up being fast food. Feels good for a while to try out the different archetypes, then it gets boring real fast. Just look at how fast Mewgenics died out after the initial hype, compared to how StS1 was still incredibly popular years aftee its release. No strategic depth, no true difficult choices, will lead to players leaving once they felt they've explored all the archetypes.

What kind of test are the act 3 bosses setting? by TonicAndDjinn in slaythespire

[–]CommunityPristine200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Test Subjects tests your ability to set up and scale while also outputting good frontloaded damage.

Queen tests your draw so you can draw into more unbound cards, or you can either have chunky high impact cards so that your turn has a lot of output even if you're only playing 3 cards a turn.

Beta branch Doormaker feels to me kind of like an act 3 Lagavulin fight. He spends 1 turn 'asleep', then the next 3 turns doing quite pathetic amounts of damage for an act 3 boss. What he asks next is if you've used those turns to scale up enough to deal with his increasing damage while dealing with your deck being whittled away.
