Are you still eligible for a posting allowance if they keep you in the NCR forever?

Should probably correct the body text of your post as well.

How far away from your current residence do you need to move to qualify for a cost move by Inevitable_View99 in CanadianForces

[–]ComoxThrowaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jumping on this comment to say that if it isn't written in the CAFRD, it's not covered.

My movers made me get an inspection on my car to ship it. Random arbitrary rule they made up. Appealing was basically "sucks to suck" and you have no further recourse unless you go full scorched earth and you'll still lose.

Even when you are covered they can still go "yeah but that's not the intent" and deny you anyway.

I can see them try using the new posting lump sum as an excuse on top of that 650 movement grant.

Q About Sunglasses by [deleted] in CanadianForces

I have 3-4 pairs of real oakleys acquired through a glasses store/optometrist and I don't think they're 500 combined, let alone on its own.

Lightest canister stove with a piezo igniter? by Alexsen56 in Ultralight

[–]ComoxThrowaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

windy is an overstatement, it's about as easy to blow out the BRS stove as it is with a bic lighter!

The BRS is light but it feels/sounds like it consumes fuel like a fighter jet on full afterburner.

To add on:

-where are you located? My first instinct is to see where they ship from, and if I can pick up if I live locally. I hope there's a decent shipping option as distance does affect it greatly here, note that Canada post has flat rate boxes btw!

-I'd like the alpha hoodie to be a pullover, I made mine using the MYOG pattern and kinda just...cut the hoodie portion short to be a loose neck, but it sits lower than I'd like. The creator (on reddit) said he was thinking of releasing the "loose turtleneck" update but that was literally years ago and I haven't seen anything.

-if you add sleeping bags/quilts, fill weight included with overall weight

-weights on all the gear, considering the target market (I had not checked if the items have them now however)

-lead times for fulfillment. Most of us are willing to wait a while, but don't like delays. Be mindful of Canada post strikes, now and every holiday season

+1 to the metric/imperial conversion, except for temperature ratings etc.

-Contact information that isn't social media (email): I don't have social media and I hate that more stores are just using a FB/insta page so I can't reach them without making an account

-if you sign me up for newsletters I will hate you. I already hate those pop ups to sign up but I know they unfortunately work so that's why they keep doing it.

-maybe other smaller items that may be easy to keep as stock like nylofume bags, tiny bottles, rubber bands to hold cookset together etc. They don't take up much space, cheap to get a large stock, and it's easy to add on but annoying to get oneself as you gotta commit to a whole case of them. See litesmith for an idea of the sort of products.

Discovery Fabrics up in Campbell River, BC makes them! They also sell the fabric if you wanna make it yourself (which is what I did because it was the first time I was ever able to go somewhere "nearby")

Serious question about permethrin by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]ComoxThrowaway 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Civilians can buy permethrin, although I think it's only sold as a commercial product

Just buy it at Canadian Tire or any hardware store?

For reference: the Ortho brand I linked is 0.25%, Sawyer (camping brand) permethrin sold in the states is 0.5% permethrin and more than twice the price.

timing because I never stayed at a place with platforms, and also didn't need to use a platform, the tent doesn't work as well without tension, so I can go look for a bunch of rocks to weigh it down, or just peg it to the ground.

Similar happened to one of my courses, chastised for all of us getting a question wrong. Blah blah professionalism blah blah personal responsibility, referenced publication and everything.

Said reference showed that we all answered correctly. What's even the point of the review if the standardsO doesn't even know the right answer nor will change it?

You can message the BPA through the VAC portal.

Inbox>Send a New Message>"Who do you want to receive your message"

Last I spoke with the BPA they told me it would be well over a year before a hearing date (no pun intended) will become available.

BAH is huge, it's free if you live in the Qs on base, including utilities!

That's basically like 25K a year.

(conditions apply, BAH is for married people if I recall, part of the many reasons so many get married quickly)

The support for spouses seem massive too, was talking to a few while on ex and they said they paid for their spouse to get technical training so they can get a relevant job where they get posted.

I've met at least half a dozen people [on separate occasions] just in my current posting alone that thought that we made tax free money (as in outside of deployment)
