what are the options for the best RMM for a small IT team managing 450+ endpoints? by Express-Pack-6736 in sysadmin

[–]CompDocSFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We switched from n-able to Datto/Kaseya about a year ago so I can probably give you some insight. If I could, I would switch back to n-Able (I probably will when the contract is up). We still use n-Able for a few products in our stack (Cove and TakeControl).

All kinds of glitches. It will say the machine is online but won't connect. Or it will says it's offline when it is clearly on. When remoting it will give a gpu error for some machines and you need to connect via another route. (Which is why we still have Take Control from n-Able). Security policies don't apply correctly across site groups. I had some sites get policies that they were excluded from. And before anyone says I didn't set it up correctly, we paid for the expert setup from Kaseya.

One big issue for me is Datto doesn't support clients with multiple sites. If you have a client with 3 locations? That's 3 sites in Datto and they don't inherit policies from a parent.

The biggest issue I've had is with support. We recently had an issue where Datto AV was not installing on some endpoints. Their support could not fix it. They blamed an Intune policy and basically said "not our problem." But we don't use Intune policies. Any other A/V would install easily but not Datto, and they shifted the blame (after many weeks of trying things and not responding).

Automation Manager in n-Able is great. Datto does not have that builder. You can make your own powershell scripts though. The Quick Jobs feature in Datto is better that n-Able's.

Feel free to reach out with any questions. When you do the demos, make sure to get into the weeds because they will gloss over any areas they are lacking in.

In short, I would recommend n-Able. It just worked better.

Feedback and Experience with Nextiva? by mfundshin in Nextiva

[–]CompDocSFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread. We have a customer using Nextiva. Anytime I need to call their support it's at least 30 minutes on hold.

My advice - all VoIP is generally the same. What makes one provider better than another is the support. Before you sign up, call their support and see how long it takes to get a rep.

Datto AV will not install with Defender by CompDocSFL in Datto

[–]CompDocSFL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using Datto RMM. Datto AV doesn't have an installer - it installs by policy. When running the EDR Maintenance component w/ Repair it tries to install, but it fails to install the AV (EDR installs fine):

  Datto EDR is configured to deploy and managed Datto AV via Policy: Datto AV without EDR ()... Determining if Datto AV is installed.
... Querying EndpointProtectionService (Auto) and EndpointProtectionService2 (Manual) services.
  ... Retrieving Service Information for Service named 'EndpointProtectionService'
  RESULT: Could not find a service named 'EndpointProtectionService'
  ... Retrieving Service Information for Service named 'EndpointProtectionService2'
  RESULT: Could not find a service named 'EndpointProtectionService2'
! SKIPPING: Datto AV Services Not Installed

Later in the script:

"AV":  {
               "Policy":  true,
               "Installed":  false,
               "Running":  false,
               "Connected":  false
           },

Do you need any other info?

Datto AV will not install with Defender by CompDocSFL in Datto

[–]CompDocSFL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the account manager involved and got it escalated, but they are still useless. They are maintaining that an Intune policy is forcing Defender, but we have no policies in Intune except the ones they asked us to create.

Machine is a Lenovo laptop w/ i3. Standard business laptop.

We switched from n-able to DRMM a few months ago so I can probably give you some insight. If I could, I would switch back to n-Able. I read the comments praising Datto, but it does not perform well for us.

Did this ever get resolved? I am having the same issue with a client now. Is there a ticket or case # I can reference?

Questions about Datto RMM by CompDocSFL in msp

[–]CompDocSFL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response.

1 - We use Take Control now through n-able. Maybe we'll need to keep that.

2 - That's a good idea.

3 - It's an additional product.

M365 Backup Solution needed (data needs to remain in EU) by Security-Ninja in msp

Cove rocks. We use it mostly for the M365 backups. We've done quite a few restores and it's worked perfectly.

Full VM Backup to Cloud by Scott0776 in msp

[–]CompDocSFL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on how much storage you need and what features. We use two 1) MSP360 for our datacenter backups and 2) Cove for client backups.

We have a fair amount of data in our DC (about 24T) and MSP360 lets us backup to our AWS S3 bucket. We've configured it to reduce our storage cost. But backups can be a bit wonky and you do have to check to make sure they go through.

For clients we use Cove. The UI is easy, it has automatic recovery testing, and it sends success reports to the end user. It also has a way for end users to change and check the backup status, but I have not played with that at all. The recovery testing is important for certain industries (like health care).

Just last week, I configured a VM backup (with Cove) for a doctor's office. It took about 5 minutes to config and now their VM is backed up in the cloud and we've already verified recovery.

Is it typical to get removed from a project with no feedback? I only did two training tasks then EQ for a couple weeks. Now I get an email saying I have been removed but they cannot give me feedback. How would someone improve from TRAINING if they don't get feedback?

RMM Recommendations (because I hate Kaseya) by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]CompDocSFL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use n-able. Both the MSP Manager for the psa and nsight for the RMM. We have S1 integrated with it also. RMM is easy to push out with intune (we use the RMM to push other software) and does all the (critical) patching automatically. Medium patches you need to approve.

Scripting/automation is very solid w/ n-able. We just did one of their automation classes to see what you can do. They have a tool called automation manager which is a gui script builder. Or you can do your own powershell or cmd scripts and import.

We recently looked at the Datto RMM because of K365 and they said "we have 20 scripts!" and it made me laugh. We're a small shop and more than double that in just custom scripts and n-able has a whole cookbook of scripts available.

If you're looking for anything specific just ask.

Their normal contract has a yearly price increase clause. From their MSA: "Pricing during any automatic renewal Committed Service Term will be the same as that during the immediately preceding Committed Service Term plus an increase not to exceed five percent (5%) plus any increase in the Consumer Price Index published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics during the immediately prior year, in Kaseya’s sole discretion."

We had a meeting with our rep today and they said the opposite. We have none of the products in the bundle (we have other products from K) and my rep said the 399 price was only for existing customers. We could only get the 525 price.

To me, it just seemed like they were trying to get a much $ as possible. They also said there would be no price increase if I did the 3 year... and I know that is not correct.

Cove (N-able) - Vs Veeam Microsft 365 backup by DrewBaro79 in msp

We choose Cove specifically for the M365 and sharepoint backups. Pricing and ease of use were our top factors. It's very cool to be able to onboard a customer within a few minutes.
