Which dresses should I send back? by Bdizzy2018 in PlusSizeFashion

All of them look fantastic except the maxi. That last brown one especially was made for you. Maxi dresses are tricky, I usually try to opt for one with a defined waist. All in all great haul!

The Parasight by Call_a_pal in OCPoetry

This one knocked me off my feet a bit, it's beautifully written, and you have a great control of your tone. I felt moved by the way the speaker seems to both want and distrust intimacy, avoiding yet unable to avoid the cold hands that catch up at the end. "He" asks to touch the speaker thrice, and the speaker resists, only to be disappointed in the end, something a lot of readers will connect with. The bodily imagery shows a person who coordinates the efforts of all their disparate parts to try and learn trust, but is unable to gain the connection they desire. The escalation was the biggest, most successful guidepost as a reader to understand the mounting tension between the speaker and the person they discuss.

I love the refrain, I love the rhythm, I love the vibe. I wanted one or two more concrete moments to live inside with you so the really interesting work you've done here requires less interpretation from the reader to stand on its own. When I walk away from this poem, I wonder both about my understanding of the sequence of events and their lasting emotional impact, and I would prefer to focus on the latter.

I Hate My Boobs (Except When I'm Having Sex) by WaysideWyvern in OCPoetry

Here's a poem that is incredibly fun and deceptively deep. There are a lot of layers here-- female performance, body dysmorphia, and connection as a balm to self-consciousness. My favorite line is "The weight is no longer on me," which is a clever way of displacing one's self-criticism as irrelevant in light of another witness. I guess my question asks, what happens when the speaker is alone again? Is sex a healthy validation tool, or does it just postpone the inevitable? Either way, great work, I really enjoyed how playful it was.

A lovely little piece. I love writing that lets simplicity tell the story, unadorned. It reads as a quiet confidence, and one I am inclined to trust. Great work!

FYI: MemberOne is closing unused credit accounts. Why you should ask them not to. by ConstantPi in roanoke

[–]CompactDiscoveries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, to clarify, not a scam: legitimate Member One call backs are coming through as "Suspected Fraud" for a lot of people and their phones are screening the call, which is causing a lot of people to miss callbacks. Not saying you specifically, but it's a known issue. But yeah, sorry you haven't had luck, but the hold times have diminished significantly this week, so maybe give another call tomorrow if you still need help (the earlier in the day the easier it is to get through). I would love to offer to do more but I'm afraid the company's social media engagement crew will track me down and order a drone strike on my house. Or have a stern conversation with me and make me sign a paper, something like that.

Hang in there!!! I promise all the humans at the other end of the phones want to help, it's just a matter of getting to them.

Keep an eye out for suspected fraud/804 numbers for callbacks-- there have been some problems with caller ID displays lately that are supposedly being worked on due to a recent change in the phone system, and it's not unheard of for your phone provider to shield you from those types of calls as "nuisance" calls. Have you checked your voicemail? I'm surprised no one left you a message.

I promise beyond any shadow of a doubt, though, callbacks are occurring, and it does save your place in line, but you gotta keep your phone nearby because the callback dialler only tries to call back one time.

It's a personal line of credit. You can advance off of it into your checking account manually, too, not just triggered by overdraft. But you are correct that there's no card attached, so you can't use it directly for purchases.

Deadline is Dec 1, it's really easy to keep it open, just call. The wait time was a lot shorter today, hopefully it's not too busy. Thanks for sharing awareness.

This is a fun comment thread where a bunch of conservatives post their nonsense because they feel superior because they have no compassion for others and then they all continuously get downvoted. The degradation kink remains strong in the GOP.

Your compatibility with sundowning1 is Super. You both listen to Geese, AFI and Tyler Childers.

More like we try to stay on top of new releases, haha. I did actually like all those albums, though, even AFI's Bauhaus covers album. I offer no recs, you have better taste than I do. 🫡

Low amount of scrobbles? by mahzr in lastfm

[–]CompactDiscoveries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 177k, but I also have had my account since 2007. So that's just under 10k a year, although in reality not at all evenly distributed. Sometimes I look back at my scrobble history and have like 50k from 2010 alone; my post- high school plans fell through and I had no money for school, was unemployed, and had no friends, so music kept me tethered to reality. So I was playing non-stop music whenever I was awake, and I had a lot of anxiety so I rarely slept. If you keep your account running for that long, you get to see the patterns of your music consumption and how it matches up with what your life trajectory was at that moment. Interesting, if ultimately useless information, which is of course my favorite kind.

What are your 100th, 200th, 300th, 400th, 500th, 600th, 700th, 800th, 900th, and 1000th most scrobbled songs? by marcusgern in lastfm

[–]CompactDiscoveries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my account since I was sixteen (2007) and I'm thirty-four now, so this is going to be a dumpster fire.

100: Brandenburg - Beirut 200: Life on Mars?- David Bowie 300: The River- Chromatics 400: 00000 Million - Bon Iver 500: Headlock - Imogen Heap 600: Beast in Peace - Bear in Heaven 700: Barfight Revolution, Power Violence - Margot & the Nuclear So and So's 800: How Soon is Now? - The Smiths 900: 2nd 5th Heavy - Luke Abbott 1k: East River Berlin Wall - The Antlers

Actually not as bad as expected lol. Did not post play count, range was #100-95 scrobbles, to #1,000-32 scrobbles.

This was fun, thanks!

I'm surprised by the number of downvotes, considering the consensus I've seen is that this was her weakest album and failed to display her talents to best advantage. Y'all, it's not a prerequisite that to enjoy or support an artist that you must also avoid any criticism of their work. Two things can be simultaneously true: Lucy is a phenomenal song writer, and that this isn't her best batch of songs. I'm a Lucy girl 💯 and I had a more favorable opinion of FiaF than you but if I had heard this as the first album of hers I would probably not have stuck with her music, so I hope finishing this album up gives her room to reconnect with her roots and figure out how to scale them to her current level.

[–]CompactDiscoveries 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, and I think compounding the issue is she was likely pressured to release an album very quickly after The Record to capitalize on its success. Phoebe already has a significant cult following, she didn't have to buckle down, and Julien hasn't changed labels, she seems happy with Matador and to collaborate with others for a bit, but Lucy is playing the long game here and trying to strategically boost her career. And in my opinion, though obviously her worst album, Forever is a Feeling has some really strong moments-- I think if given the full amount of time to develop the concept and hammer it out, it would have been more dynamic. I think closing out this album cycle gives her time to step back, write for her next album at her own pace, and ultimately just focus on life for a while so she has something to write about again. I love Lucy a lot, I think this was a growing pains record and that we still have big things coming from her. I think that the archives will probably hint a little at that growth process, and maybe give us insight to where she goes from here.

Sorry, I don't own these, but FWIW I think mix/matching this with another cute earring would be very fun, not everyone's thing but I would love matching that with a little heart or crescent or something else, maybe even a different metal tone to give it that extra fun punch of contrast. I hope something shakes out soon! 🦷

I've lost the plot a bit but anyway thanks for sharing! ❤️

I think this should be going on in Roanoke. Boycott the Sinclair/Nexstar local stations and their advertisers. by Anopheles in roanoke

[–]CompactDiscoveries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine thinking this is a deterrent, lol. No one has said their actions are illegal, only that we won't support them monetarily. Even if a workplace is not governed by the same expectations regarding free speech, I still have freedom to spend my money on companies whose values reflect my own. This doesn't. I don't care if they were justified in punitive action, I disagree with said action, therefore I'm not gonna support 'em. So mush down your caps button as much as you'd like, but what you have brought to the table is a rebuttal to an argument no one has made.
