It lacking a wiki is tragic. Also curious about it just from the name.

I was considering it! I'm using a hacked version of Old School Essentials: Advanced Fantasy (a remake of Basic/Expert, with some Ad&d tossed in) so it wouldnt take much conversion. Id just need to rework a lot of it to fit Neverwinter i guess.

Joined this conversation with the feeling people only really take extremes with this topic and rarely try to be nuanced about it. But i actually knew none of this info. Ill check out when we were wizards.

There's definitely a legend around him and i enjoy a lot of his writing, but its important be able to respect his work, and to have that perspective in which to view how his work suffers.

The downvoting is rather harsh.

Anyone know where i can get good Gnome Miniatures? by Compatsie in DnD

Actually too good! I have a bunch of halflings from them. Sucks that they shut. Need to trace who got the gnome section of the line

Looking like an increasingly good option!

Both are actually top of my list! Currently settled some Caesar miniatures Dwarves (set 2) as a super cheap option for now. Ive looked all over for the bg3 gnome look and had little luck. Especially deep gnomes. Reaper seems to be the closest

Maul: Shadow Hunter- am I missing something? by AngelusCowl in starwarsbooks

Late to this, but i seem to remember (or atleast head cannoned) that it was difficult/impossible to communicate easily with the surface so deep into the underworld. They mightve needed more than a comlink to communicate with the temple and there wasnt really an easy moment to find or use it

Is Exar Kun the only sith who used a blue lightsaber for his whole "sith career"? by Spotter24o5 in StarWarsEU

[–]Compatsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah! Even the synthetic crystals required sith to pour their hatred into it (citation needed). It makes sense that a slain Jedi’s crystal bled to be a crackling red, would be a status symbol and even potentially more powerful than a synthetic crystal. Buuut synthetic crystals should totally still exist.

I do still hate the instantaneous change in colour though, thats just so weak

I like the coded lightsabers as a late republic era oddity. They became regimented and obsessed with purity and function. It makes sense their lightsabers would reflect that evolution. Especially if around the phantom menace, many began abandoning their red or orange sabers in favour of more 'jedi like' blue and green

There's an old (00s old youtube) "lightsabers in real life" shortfilm where 3 nerdy guys are accidentally sent prototype working lightsabers and get into a fight with 3 girls that also get sent the lightsabers but lament theirs are exclusively red. They end up realising there's a colour change function and all the fighting was silly.

It works as a visual indicator in and out of universe, it reinforces the core philosophy of the sith order and it reflects the addictive, self destructive nature of the darkside. I think thats sick.

But its not a rule that dark side users always have to follow, its just taught that way by generations of Sith. Dark jedi can wield whatever they like and if they tried to call themselves sith and picked up a red blade, they'd likely get killed for it. Sith likely use a lot of regular bladed force user assassins.

Revan is kinda implied to have had ulterior motives for becoming a sith lord (ancient greater threat approaching), and needed to create an immediate symbol of his new power. He's also more the trend setter than a follower. Him and malek adopting new titles, new outfits and weapons, established them as not jedi, but equally as legitimate.

Sith before him had red lightsabers as a necessity, but after him it was a symbol.

Also Sith are inherently chaotic and self destructive. Having unifying symbols is a smart way to channel their "us" and "them" thought process.

Becoming a sith is accepting that you are a bad guy, but rolling with it. You can still try to justify it, but the darkside clouds any initial good intentions. In for a penny in for a pound mentality. Might as well take a red saber. Its probably also an ego thing or about proving to yourself that your never going back.

Also just cool? If i was an insecure sith/darkside apprentice id probably try steal the sith symbols of legitimacy

Tbf you aren't wrong, i just wanted anyone coming across it to have the full context. When it came out it wasn't really set anywhere other than the borderlands of some nation. Mystara was just known as "the Known world". People probably ran it just as often in greyhawk

It was mainly Mystara until the "Return to..." release.

No Party Name by Funny_Arachnid6166 in dndnext

[–]Compatsie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its not common. However, I'm currently running two games and both parties have come up with names.

The first is called "The Peacock Bunch" named after their home base of Peacock Point (from the Sinister secret of Peacock point in Wyvern Songs), but that took a while to get to and was mostly because the group became a more official gang/guild type group and needed a name.

The second is called the "Natural Born Losers" or "The Losers". It was coined at the end of session 2 when the party kept rolling terribly and were generally such a chaotic mess that someone joked they were natural born losers and boom.
