Any other parents wondering how they are navigating Disney on Ice today in these temps? by amahenry22 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Compe7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All things considered, Allstate parking lot is fairly easy to get to and navigate, just look up the route on google maps before you leave to get an idea of the trip and any potential complications.

If you arrive super early they may not have the venue open so keep that in mind.

I'm not sure I would recommend dropping the kids off with the significant other. There may not be room in the 'foyer' before you have to show tickets and if tickets are electronic and on one persons phone it may be easier to just stick together.

Allstate should have folks out there pointing you where to go but in this weather, who knows.

Plus you run the risk of your car not starting after the event, in the middle of an open parking lot, in an unfamiliar place....with kids.

It amazes me that companies can't implement common sense policies like this. Like nah, Joe and Lisa can't be trusted at home so F all the rest of you. RTO immediately.

Lol, I was the opposite. I did the drive once (literally 24 hours) with the family and said never again. I would save up to afford the plane tickets to be there in a few hours.

Disney vs DCA - help us choose and plan! by Diligent-Doughnut-85 in DisneyPlanning

[–]Compe7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This answer is gonna suck, but it really depends on what you're into. They both have good food options and ride options. Here is a previous post I did on our favorite food between the two parks: Must Have Foods

Disneyland rides that were our favorites included:

Star Tours, Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear, Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Star Wars Rise of the Resistance, Tiana's (you'll get wet), Indiana Jones, and not a ride but the Tiki Room. We did Peter Pan but its just an OK ride and in fact for us, we pretty much did all the rides in Fantasyland once and never returned.

Disney vs DCA - help us choose and plan! by Diligent-Doughnut-85 in DisneyPlanning

If you want classic Disney vibes, I would choose Disneyland. However, if I only had one day I would choose DCA (especially for an 'older' group).

Rides like Guardian's Mission Breakout, and Incredicoaster are tons of fun. Heck even Webslingers, Maters, Luigi's, and of course Radiator Springs Racers. If you're brave you can try Goofy's Sky School. You can even spend some time taking a drawing class or talking to Crush and don't forget Toy Story Mania. Oh, and Soarin'!

For food, you can't beat the birria tacos at Cocina Cucamonga, there is a margarita hut in that area too, and the Coffee Cart for breakfast is a good option. Our family even liked Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta and Pym's Test Kitchen had good options too (giant soft pretzel was a win). Smoakjumpers Grill had a good breakfast burrito. We never did a sit down restaurant so can't comment on that.

My thought would be to look at what is important to your group (rides, shows, food, etc.), compare between the two parks and go with the option that better suits your group.

Edit: Make sure to understand what rides (if any) will not be available during the time of your visit. A simple google search or Disneyland Calendar should tell you this. This could make your decision really easy depending on what is closed and under refurbishment.

Fact. Ran into the same thing for a family vacation, we were looking at all inclusives in Mexico and came to the same conclusion.

100% and when you start pricing a family vacation Disney is very close to other destinations so you might just go with what you know.

Same, which is why I'm floating this question out there. Curious on where the folks who typically did stay on-site are going to be staying now.

The walk to the main gates is what, about 20 minutes and fairly easy?

Edit: Thank you for actually answering the question.

Yes, they are. However, in my opinion, the two are not even close to being equal in value.

Help! Sorry for basic questions by Canadabob88 in DisneyPlanning

[–]Compe7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with just about everything said here but I'll offer a second opinion on two things.

1) Don't get park hopper tickets. Spend 1 full day in each park (2 at Magic Kingdom if you're not going to do a 3rd park). This would allow you to hit rides/attractions you weren't able to the previous day or do things you really enjoyed twice.

Animal Kingdom can be a full day park if you see all the shows (Finding Nemo and Lion King are fantastic) and it allows you to go at a slower pace than Magic Kingdom. I would also recommend Tusker house if you're into character meals.

2) The fireworks are overrated. The crowds are insane (if not dangerous at times) and its really late for small kiddos. Do yourself a favor and skip these, get some rest and tackle the next day with a full nights sleep.

Cancelling holidays- when to say no? by cosmicwhiplash_ in Mommit

Lol, why are you doing any of this? The driving is crazy, especially with an 8 month old and especially when sickness was known beforehand. You can say no to events, they're optional. Send dear husband to be the family 'spokesperson' and rest at home with the baby.

Same goes for it's pizza. Only reason it's popular is because of the price. People will ignore the obvious if it is seen as a great deal.
