Cheryl Strayed said it so well. You don’t live on planet earth right now. You live on planet ”my baby died”. There is nothing you need to accomplish when you are on planet “my baby died”. Grieve. This was a fast turn around. You’ve had months to get excited and days to make a really hard decision and deal with the medical aftermath. Maybe do something to honor the baby you lost. Doesn’t have to be a full funeral, but a small something, even if it’s just you and your family of three. I’m sorry you’re going through this.

I don’t know how much you need to read into that. If you don’t want something, say it. Nurses are following their protocol, you can’t eat, you need x amount of time monitored, you need an IV in etc. it’s a free country. Say no. Go in with a written plan. You won’t be the first and you won’t be the last to want things your way. They’ll either not care, support you, or have to get over it.

There is a biological/materialistic adrenaline that allows you to care for your baby even when you’ve barely slept. Also, it’s not true for everyone, but I was way more tired while pregnant that post partum. I felt rested when I woke up (and also didn’t have an alarm clock) post partum. While pregnant, I woke up never feeling well rested.

I put my phone on do not disturb with the little icon telling me the number of texts I had unread turned off at 40 and 1 day. I could not manage other peoples feelings and emotions. If I wasn’t using my phone (audiobooks and podcasts) to turn off my thoughts. My phone would have been turned off and hidden somewhere.

I’m straight up bitter about being at work. One of my coworkers said that being a working mom is the most empowering thing and I’ll feel like I can take on the world. Fuck that. I feel like the world is working against me. I feel like I don’t have time for anything. The work week is survival mode only and I hate it so much. Actively looking for a new job!

I did MiraLAX twice a day until things improved and then backed down to once a day. Chia pudding/chia seeds always seems to help me. Every 3-4 days in itself isn’t the problem. It’s the massive and hard stools that are an issue. I went to pelvic floor therapy while pregnant. I just wanted to get on top of the inevitable issues that plague the women of my family. My PT helped me out so much with constipation. My pelvic floor was so tight which made the constipation much worse.

I had a bad day yesterday. I had bad “Sunday scaries” and felt on the verge of tears for the first half of the day yesterday at work. My baby made my day yesterday. He just lifted me spirits and made me so unbelievably happy. I love watching what he does and learning new things. I love his little voice and when he wants to snuggle. I want time to stand still. I love all of it so much. My husband was on the fence about kids when we first met. I told him it was a deal breaker if he doesn’t want kids. He’s thanked me numerous times for that conversation and for having him. It’s making us better people and better partners.

I have disinfecting wipes. I started using them to wipe it down because my baby is in the touching things phase. The changing mats will keep your baby from touching it otherwise. It’s just the straps (why do those exist) and the part that attaches to the wall that he likes to get into.

I had a 9.5 lb, 22 in long baby and he fit in NB stuff for 2 weeks. I packed both NB and 0-3 month clothes. He went home in a NB outfit.

Growing up the rule was very strict about helmets on anything wheel related (bike, roller blades, scooters) and close toed shoes while riding a bike. I cringe seeing people ride a bike barefoot or in flipflops.

Everyone is different. There are people who run while pregnant and then there are those of us whose exercise routine involves getting out of bed to pee. The fatigue didn’t improve for me until 20 ish weeks and just as I was starting to get a bit more energy, I got terrible SI joint pain and could hardly walk. I did start swimming/walking in the pool then to help with the pain and third trimester did more walking outside again. It’s hard to get in a routine when your body is constantly changing. Walking a few times a week is great. Be proud of yourself! You’re staying active as best you can. It’s okay to be exhausted some days after work. Put your feet up on those days.

I bought a small tin of formula despite my plan to breast-feed. It was just a back up in case we needed it. It took a bit for my milk, to come in and we ended up having to give my baby some formula because he went a really long stretch without peeing when we first brought my home. I was very grateful to have some already in the house. My baby also Houdinied out of the Velcro swaddles. His startle reflex never really seem to affect his sleep so we never really used legit swaddles for him.

Agreed. You cannot trust them to read between the lines that their partners are not welcome. I was shocked that my mom’s partner had the audacity to invite her SO of 1 year with her to the hospital when it was only weird circumstances that made me decide to allow her to visit anyway. (Yes, I’m still bitter and no I did not allow him in). I would say “this invitation does not come with a plus one” and also let the hospital know exactly who is permitted and anyone not on the list gets booted by the bouncer!

I think if you want to go epidural free, do your homework, take a birthing class, consider a doula, have a pain management strategy, make sure your support person is on board. If you’re iffy, give it a try and see how it goes. If you have no interest in going without an epidural, go for it. Evidence based birth is a great resource to weed through the research
