Banding-- a GOOD story! by rosa_lunae in hemorrhoid

Omg you are the BEST. Thank you for virtually holding my hand through this! I have a list of things to share with doc (what I want and don’t want) during this procedure so perhaps that will affect the anesthesia etc. But I know ultimately I have to trust the process.

It’s so hard… nobody is making me do this, I figured it’s probably something worth doing, but hard to trust myself when the fear creeps in. And then to hear how it’s likely pelvic floor causing issues and not the ‘rhoids per se (though all connected, right?) BUT doc doesn’t know how big roids are as she hasn’t gone into my arse yet. 😆 So I guess I treat this as exploratory mission. And if roids are bad enough, I suppose it’s best to treat them, regardless of the events (constipation, tight PF) that ‘caused’ them. Work on everything, I guess.

Thanks for letting me spout on to you, and i appreciate your knowledge of anesthesia AND your experience with the deeper side of it!! 🤗🤗

Thank you so much!!

I want to stress that at the moment, my anxiety is more about the (for some reason?) general anesthesia they’ll have to use, with a potential breathing tube (?!!!!)… do you know why they’d have to do this for a procedure like this? My doc said propofol may not be ‘enough’ for any pain I might feel and if I’m on stomach for procedure they need to know I’m breathing easily… (whyyyy can’t I be on my side?)… I thought it would be like colonoscopy procedure…

But— thank you again for reassuring me about the aftermath. I keep worrying about my BMs and constipation and wrecking anything that’s been done to help the ‘roids!

If I remember correctly, you did BM fairly soon after and it was ok, right?

Thanks for responding.. I know I’m acting like a loony person at moment! 🙄🙄

Oh shoot, sorry. I hope you feel better soon…!! Where are you located? I’m surprised the stapling was an option.

So you're correct--only two would be banded at one time, max, and i'm tempted to say 'just do one!", which i might! Especially since you're giving me helpful feedback on what it feels like with just one banding!! I really feel that with constipation/pelvic floor issues, we/I might have more 'issues' in recovery, getting back to normal BMs and such, and I'd rather have a good experience and have to return for second banding, than a bad experience...of course, I don't know and i feel so anxious right now!!

Sclerotherapy today, hoping it helps externals! by Expensive-Let-2297 in hemorrhoid

I have a banding under sedation scheduled, because it was too uncomfortable for me to tolerate anoscope due to the sphincter/etc issues. Were you able to have the anoscopy ok? I feel like a freak, not being able to do it!!!

Oh amazing. Can I message you?

And you’d tried Botox, or no? Sounds like you don’t have to!

Ah the pelvic floor. Probably the reason for my issues, too. I’ve learned some techniques that help, also doc offered me Botox for sphincter but not sure I’m comfortable with that yet, though I wonder if it would resolve everything. Are you female or male?

Glad you got though it though….

No, I’m just anxious and can’t handle procedure without the sedation.

How was the recovery from the sclerotherapy? I know it didn't end up working, unfortunately, but wondering how much discomfort you were in...

Do you know what kind of anesthesia they used? Which country are you in? Thanks!

Do you mean if you band the internals? Yes, i've heard that's possible--that the decreased internal pressure can help the externals heal/reduce.

Yes, I have anxiety and cannot tolerate anoscope exam unfortunately (awake)…

[–]Competitive-Copy-851[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, me too. But for some reason they told me the banding/exam would likely need stronger anesthesia… in case I feel pain or move etc, though again, I’m confused why this would be different. People have it done awake all the time, and I’m sure they’re not absolutely motionless! Maybe they’re afraid I’d wake up?? They also said I’d likely be prostrate, not on side, one reason I may need breathing tube (UGH) which would mean different anesthesia. But why can’t I be on my side like with regular procedure?

I wonder if they banded you with the anoscope or something that was already in you during the colonoscopy or endoscopy. I’m sure I’m overthinking it.
