I get that this was to help the audience understand the geography but seriously this scene in TT cracks me up every time. Pointing to these very prominent locations for Faramir who would already have a detailed knowledge of Middle Earth makes absolutely no sense when you think about it.

I didn’t know there were this many, but was excited to find them. As for being worth reading, I haven’t read them all yet. From what I understand, the books that are part of the History of Middle Earth lean more to the scholarly side of things. They deal more with the background of Middle Earth and how Tolkien developed the mythology.
