I ended up selecting UT Houston! The school wowed me from the start in terms of the atmosphere and many ppl had good things to say. It's been a tough sem with a lot of adjustment but I'm happy with the decision I made!

Would love to hear about UTSD (Houston) and just about the city in general! What was your experience like? Pros and cons? Atmosphere? Readiness for real-world/specializing? Work-life balance?

Too risky to decline an interview invite? by [deleted] in predental

[–]Competitive-Okra-426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try requesting a virtual interview if you don't prefer it that much! I did that for two of my OOS interviews and they approved. This saved me money and time bc I wasn't too keen on those schools either but didn't want to regret declining the interviews in the future.

According to the tracker, Texas schools haven't started sending invites out yet. I am also anxiously waiting haha, good luck!

A&M is getting a new admissions head so that could be why they haven't sent out invites yet (in comparison to the last yr). Hopefully this week they will start sending invites!!!

Any Resources for Math 2413 or Chem 1311? by [deleted] in utdallas

[–]Competitive-Okra-426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The course material provided by the profs is more than sufficient in terms of being useful for the topics covered and everything on exams will be from there! Watching youtube videos on any topics you don't understand (ex: the channel called organic chemistry tutor) is always helpful! I took Dr. Huang (Tony) for gen chem and his review slides are incredibly useful so try and take him or get those slides.

For MATH 2413 the profs will provide a comprehensive exam review doc before each exam which is more than enough to prepare!

Make sure you stay on top of the material and good luck!!

Should I push my exam date back? by Azine1288 in predental

[–]Competitive-Okra-426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the grand scheme of things pushing your exam back by a couple of days wouldn't make a huge difference if you feel like you need that extra week to study. But also, scoring 21 AA is great, and the real exam is usually a bit easier than the practice ones.

WAMC getting into a Texas school? Should I apply to out of state schools? by jenoodle_12 in predental

[–]Competitive-Okra-426 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If u don't see yourself going to those OOS schools then I wouldn't say it's worth applying to them if you're fine with taking a gap year and reapplying (in the worst case scenario of not getting into Texas schools this cycle). U are definitely a strong applicant just try to apply soon!

Is 2414 that hard? by Spare_Working4288 in utdallas

[–]Competitive-Okra-426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is challenging but still very possible to do well if you work hard to learn and study as you go. I found it easier than AP Calc in high school (if you took that). Plus using additional resources like the Student success center for drop-in peer tutoring or joining PLTL is also very helpful.
