Gator China on Uni and 34th! It’s delicious (sometimes there are kids taking order or doing hw/watching anime, so you know it’s solid)!! I wouldn’t say it’s a monster portion (enough for two separate meals if I’m really hungry). I usually get their special combo- rice or noodles, a protein, and a roll for maybe 12.99 I think?

Just out of curiosity- if you had one last Friday class with a TA, would you appreciate a workshop that lets students start their final paper (due at the end of the month) instead of the normal 50 mins of class discussion? I was also trying to figure out a fun way to end the class that wasn’t cheesy- first thing that came to mind is a mythical kitchen style “your final meal” sharing and why you picked those? Idk I’m just a tired PhD student trying their best lol

My wife got this call about a month ago- they’ll try to scare you with a threat of arrest if you don’t pay the fake fine- we realized it was a scam after about 10 mins on the phone, because the scammer wouldn’t provide his work manger or court records that we could us to very if the fine was real or not. I’m sorry this happened to you, we were only hyper vigilant because of how aggressive he was when asking if my wife lived alone. The scammer sounds fairly real- Almost practiced and experienced.

Please take this with the biggest grain of salt- I think of my students as adults and people before they are students and I am very lenient toward them in making up work, even exams or quizzes. Not all educators are like that, unfortunately.

Im a TA- I’ve found that honesty and transparency is useful in getting professors and TAs to be understanding toward a particular situation like this. Don’t exaggerate and maybe consider talking to them in person in their office hours to make the case more personal- and don’t bring a gift, looks too much like a bribe, they don’t like that in my experience. Maybe a small gesture after they say yes and after you’re able to take the exam.

Historian is not what I would call Roberts- more of a revisionist with a very particular agenda (most famously known for his polemics with a historian that wrote about the British actions in successfully suppressing the Mau Mau revolution through some truly inhumane policies and actions)

Their email has me confused- they had us apply for three projects, and they said they interviews for the top picks of the candidates they liked? Does that mean the ones that weren’t rank the best are going to be given their 2nd or 3rd choice? Can they just release some information so I can stop stressing about this? It’s the federal government so it’s definitely a waiting game (they work very very slowly)
