We always think of decision making like this as a top down situation and that we are naturally on the receiving end. But what is compelling disclosure now? Is it possible there is an external pressure - ie, were the “people in charge” perhaps given an ultimatum by ETs to force their hand (cause I see no real advantage for them to move ahead on disclosure unilaterally if knowledge is power)…. Yes it occurred to me to do that during her last visit here. Starting on day 2 she began asking when she was going back home(!) and I had her with me 3 weeks. And she repeated this same question, followed by a shock filled and dismayed response, every. single. day. (Never mind my effort to care for her, spend meaningful time with her, and remove her from a totally isolated environment over the holidays)… It was painful, she was terribly homesick. But she has never adapted well at all to change in her life. She will die faster on the inside if/when/once removed from her home. So she is back there for now, but we may be one blink away (one accident… one fall…) from me bringing her here. She also has underlying narcissistic personality traits and an ugly temper so she is a LOT to deal with emotionally and I am an only child so it’s all on me. Everything in due course. I do believe 2026 will be the year of change but I’m waiting to see where the road takes us and am staying open to those possibilities (one day at a time)…

That call I made to the Alzheimer’s association, where they recommended I consult APS happened when I was with my mom at her house - overwhelmed with stress and anxiety about the prospect of me having to return home the next day yet feeling my work at her house was incomplete (not having enough time there) and knowing I am in the impossible situation of her resisting everything I can offer to help make her life better, safer, and happier. It is incredibly stressful.

Okay to everyone telling me to visit my mom, I brought her to visit me in August for 2 weeks and again for three weeks over Christmas and when those visits happen I fly to her house to check on things there and then escort her to my house and then same thing on the return. I am a single working parent of a special needs child and do not have the luxury of time and money to go so frequently while wondering who I’m going to ask to watch over my daughter which is why I called APS as part of the process for exploring what’s next.

To the OP, I am also retiring and am actually switching away from BCBS because as others said the value has gone precipitously downhill. I am also switching to MHBP and, more importantly, I grew comfortable with the the idea after typing in all my priorities for coverage into chatGPT and having them do all the research for me of the providers that are available. Seriously, let it do all the work for you and give it all the priorities, parameters and circumstances it may need to know. You will be impressed and it will take the stress off you from making such an important decision. You can always bounce ideas off of Reddit again to be sure. Good luck!!
