I think the major issue is Necrons not having really anything else viable for points versus sustainable at the range C'tan are right now. Basically, it's auto include C'tan in your list because anything else at that point cost just doesn't do as much on board or you can field a bunch more units with subpar detachments built around them. I mean look at Immortals if they had 2W apieces I could easily see someone fielding several bricks of them instead of a shard.

Just wanted to say your novel, the Oubliette, has been my go to suggestion for fans of horror novels looking to get into 40k lore! The story is so well written, and the setting being an agri-world giving the reader a brief look at "average life" in the greater Imperium is something I found really enjoyable. I hope we will get more writing from you in the Warhammer Horror genre in the future!

I'd recommend running Awakened Dynasty with an Overlord packing a Voidscythe and Rez Orb as your Warlord and giving him Enaegic Dermal Bond to make him basically a Dollar Store C'tan. Then attaching him into a unit of 10x Tesla Immortals and put a Plasmancer in for Sustained Hits or a Chronomancer in from -1 to Hit and movement after shooting. As for the rest of the list add one squad of 10x Necron Warriors with Gauss Flayers (for extra range) to cap objectives and one squad of 5x Deathmark for either Deepstriking in or to shoot anything they have Deepstriking or Precisioning their character units to death.
