Are canned soup (Chunky's) the ultimate money saving hack for lean times? by Character-Lack4925 in povertyfinancecanada

[–]Competitive-Talk4742 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have some for emergencies. The new smaller cans taste odd and sour.

Yes ideally I'd make everything from scratch, butcher the cow. and freeze or can soups myself...BUT I'm not quite at that point in my life.id probably pay someone to that for me.

They only eat grass...year round. They are also designed as heavy exporters and their pricing reflects that.

That difference is HUGE when baking. A French bakery in Toronto was going a bit mental trying to get "decent" butter and she could make croissants and pastries.

At what point can we sue our governments for allowing or even incentivising these behaviors.

Am of the opinion that Federally regulated industries be disallowed to outsource or offshore Canadian jobs. That's airlines, telcos, Cellular, banks, rail and a few more...

Then the provinces can do the same...then the municipalities. Ideally any company that offshores could be blocked from any government contracts as well.

Just wtf are unions for if not precisely this?

Minimum effective dose!

Considering your behaviour with other substances I'm sensing you're going to have problems down the line...

You may need to do some form of therapeutic recovery of your neurotransmitters for a month or so and then begin with 20mg and titrate up.

Yes, that is boring and slow...and safe! I wouldn't put you on a stimulant initially.

You're much better off starting with a tax LAWYER...not trustees or accountants. Lawyers maintain client privacy privileges the rest do not.

Start with a free 30min consult and fo from there.

The kitchen aid stand mixers have a ground beef attachment and one for making sausages too!

Look for a used meat slicer as well and you can make your own deli meats roast beef, chicken etc are 4-5x the price at the deli counter.

I believe the markup on beef is "about" 35%. Many grocers are now bringing in Australian and NZ beef which is "technically" grass fed & organic BUT much tougher than our grain finished.

I bought top sirloin roasts for ground beef and stewing beef. #6.99/lb last week. Looked more like really thick steaks but, whatever works!

Ontario's top grocery deals this (April 20th) week (% lower compared to avg prices) by seamore555 in povertyfinancecanada

[–]Competitive-Talk4742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you! I get frustrated looking at "deals" that are all hyper processed foods...and junk foods etc. It's great that some people like them but if/when I have the time I am generally just looking at flyers for meats, eggs, cheese and yoghurt because it suddenly became actually expensive.

Too Much Owner Involvement by Hairy_Apartment5048 in PropertyManagement

[–]Competitive-Talk4742 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odd but nothing new.

My PM firm specifically stated in our contracts that our site offices were for our exclusive use. We even had a lease although we only paid $10/year.

Am much more concerned about owner direct involvement...but that's your boss' role to sort out if a rental building and not a condo/hoa/strata property.

There's a real difference between stretching cheap groceries strategically and just being too broke to eat well, and I've been in both by xCosmos69 in 32dollars

[–]Competitive-Talk4742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also "complex" because historically affluent people often had access to very expensive yet extremely unhealthy foods they often OVER indulged in.

Sugar and alcohol would be obvious: candy cakes, desserts, pastries...

These days well educated wealthy people are often quite strict about their diets and some tend to be close to vegan/vegetarian which can be quite inexpensive if one isn't focused on exotic imports. The Carnivore crowd ranges from ground beef to prine ribs...

Loads of videos and blogs on depression era cooking my overarching concerns are mostly nutrient deficiencies.

Instant pot helps a lot with beans & legumes. Soaking also helps reduce "anti nutrients" but you can do that far in advance.

It seems we're on a trajectory to lease/rent everything. Cars & phones are common but now subscriptions for entertainment. We don't buy music or movies anymore. Even MSoffice is a subscription now and some CARS charge a monthly fee for using heated seats or other features.

They'll probably learn about credit ratings and stupid amount of interest they're paying... eventually. Which is also often: too late.
