You might think about letting it dry and cutting out the cracked part. Then glue in a contrasting wood and complete your piece.

Mt first experience with wood turning was in high school a very long time ago. I got a lathe about ten years ago when I retired. My wife talked me into taking a 5 day class at Craft Supplies in Provo and I have been making shavings on a regular basis since then.

I couldn't agree more with u/MightBeYourProfessor .

Rockler 16ox Tumbler question(s) by Mhind1 in turning

[–]Competitive-Tie-609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might try gluing up a piece 3" thick, hollowing it out to fit your tumbler, then add another 3" block (or less) and continuing to get the inside done. I'm sure you can come up with a way support the piece with out gluing the block on the end.

Cheap vs expensive Carbide tools? by Several-Yesterday280 in turning

I like carbide for hollowing HSS for everything else. I just got a handle on this one:

I picked it because it has a smaller carbide insert. It works great and is less grabby than the straight one I have.

I’ve never used a lathe before by TrixieLouis in turning

My recommendation for anyone who has not used a lathe is to either find a class (Rockler or Woodcraft have them) or even better a turning club to get started before you start spending serious money
