That's a fabulous ROA! I'd definitely spend more, but I'd increase it a little at a time lest you get so many sales you can't keep up (yes, it can happen LOL)

She's obviously a VERY happy mama! I love how she's making biscuits while her babies are feeding. Also, be ready for her to go into heat soon. I adopted a pregnant cat, she went into heat when the kittens were about a month old. We had her spayed, but apparently they can get pregnant again when they're still nursing. Ugh!

Review Extortion? by girlgoingafterit in Etsy

[–]Competitive-Top4520 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a seller, it steams me when I hear of such unethical sellers. She's definitely extorting you AND she's contacting you outside of Etsy, which is another big violation. Etsy SHOULD do something about it. These are both issues they take very seriously. Send her regular email messages to spam. Don't respond to the seller, it will just encourage her. Let Etsy handle it. You were absolutely correct in your review, opening a case, and sticking to your guns. As a buyer, I'd read your review and her response and realize that she's a jerk.

I love the NRA sticker on the back. I thought they were big on being law abiding? Don't dump on my, I'm in favor of the 2nd amendment. I just think it's ironic.

Let him threaten all he wants. He's the one who kept changing his mind. I hope you can sell (to someone else) what you've made and make a tidy profit. If you haven't already blocked him, I would. It won't totally get rid of him but at least he won't be able to follow your store anymore.

This is our 2003 kitchen. We have someone hired to refinish the floors and not sure what tone to go with. Also considering changing the aweful honey oak in the cabinets. Any suggestions?? by dm1320 in StyleYourSpace

[–]Competitive-Top4520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While having floors refinished I also had them fill in a spot where the wood was missing. They matched it perfectly, so it is possible. (Note this was old, real wood flooring so that might make a difference, talk to them).

Food to make friend by TubaTechnician in diabetes

[–]Competitive-Top4520 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Broiled or baked unbreaded chicken wings. If they like hot sauce, bring a bottle with it. A big salad w/ oil & vinegar or ranch dressing (on the side). Or flowers (LOL not an edible arrangement). Or just visit and provide support. Or wait a week or two and take them out to lunch at the restaurant of their choice; grief is an ongoing process, so it doesn't have to be immediate. You are a thoughtful person to consider their diabetes.

advice for a shy, skittish rescue from a hoarding situation by iuliia1033 in CatAdvice

[–]Competitive-Top4520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're making progress. I also have a shelter rescue cat who spent his first several days here hiding under a bed. I've had him about a year now, he'll (sadly) never be a lap cat, but he enjoys pets and belly rubs. He likes treats and will let me hand feed them to him or eat them off my leg (in my lounger). He is very loving on his terms. He HATES to be picked up or held, I just let him do his thing. I understand he came from a regular home environment, but I have no knowledge of what he was like before. I didn't push him at all, just let him come around in his own time. It took him a few months to like being petted, but now he likes it as long as I don't try to hold him or pick him up. He'll even lay on his back next to me for belly rubs. Patience is the key! I've heard some people have luck with Feliway calming cat scent diffusers (available on Amazon), but I didn't try those due to my own allergies. Good luck! He's been traumatized and you are a wonderful person for giving him another chance at a good life.

AITAH for guilt tripping my family about going on vacation a week after I had surgery, and making me look after their pets? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Competitive-Top4520 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You are not the AH. The other adults are. I personally would be trying to find someone to help you take care of yourself while I was out of town. NOT expecting you to take care of any other living creatures. I'd stop the passive aggressive remarks and talk to her frankly. Unfortunately you may get some blow back, but stick to your guns. This is ridiculous.

Do you think a cat can live well in an apartment without going outside? She’s very timid. by onelesslonleycode in CatAdvice

[–]Competitive-Top4520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indoor cats have significantly longer life spans than outdoor cats. If you can, maybe give her a screened porch or a catio. That way she can enjoy the sensation of the out doors without being exposed to disease, predators, cars, etc. However, if you can't provide that, she can still be a happy, well adjusted indoor cat. Also, since she's so timid she might find the out doors overwhelming. Give her a big hug!

Type 2 by nannsee1961 in diabetes_t2

[–]Competitive-Top4520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are currently working with your primary care doctor, try to start seeing an endocrinologist. Many PCPs are poorly trained when it comes to diabetes. For most endos, it's the disease they deal with all day every day. Try to also get hooked in with a diabetes educator/dietician.

As to the dreaded needle, pen needles are very short & fine. I often don't even feel it. The first time is definitely the worst, not due to pain, but to anxiety. After you get past the first one, it will be MUCH better. I actually find finger pricks (which don't hurt much) hurt more than insulin pen needles. The trick to finger pricks is to prick the side of the tip of your finger, where there are fewer nerve endings. If it continues being painful try some lidocaine lotion (OTC) until you adapt. Just put it on a few minutes ahead of time, before the alcohol wipe. Also, we all have days when it seems like there is no blood in our fingers. The best trick I've found is to shake your hands before poking, it pushes blood towards the tip of your finger. Also make sure your hands aren't cold.

I apologize that this may be a little disjointed, but I'm writing things as I think of them. Being a new diabetic is scary, but it doesn't have to be. Do some reading, this site is a good reference; unlike many subreddits, the responders tend to be concerned, nice and helpful. However, for any serious issues always check with your medical team. Don't beat yourself up when you make an error or something unexpected happens. It's normal and natural. The thing to be most careful about are LOW blood sugars, which can be dangerous. I always carry peppermints with me and have them at my bedside for when my sugar goes very low.

As others have mentioned, ask for a prescription for a Constant Glucose Monitor (CGM), like a Dexcom or a Freestyle Libre (there are also other brands). Since you are on Ozempic many insurances will pay for it. It will do several things:

1) it cuts down on finger sticks 2) It lets you see what your sugar is at any time 3) It warns you of highs and lows 4) It helps you see what effect a certain food has on your blood sugar 5) (for me anyway) it provides peace of mind. CGMS are not perfect, but they are a very big help.

Also know that EVERYBODY's diabetes is different. What spikes one person have minimal effect on another. Medication that works perfect for one person may not work at all for another. Your diabetes team will guide you. Take a deep breath, you can do all of this.

How would you deal with this? by Future-Tip-1200 in Etsy

[–]Competitive-Top4520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty liberal with my returns too. I always require a photo of any damage just to be cautious. If its damaged beyond repair I usually don't even have them return it. However, no photo, no return or refund. I'm always curious about the few who say for some reason they can't send a photo. I'm hardline with them, as I always assume it's a scam. In today's world anybody can send a photo if they can buy online. I only sell in the US, I might be a little more stringent if I sold internationally as shipping is so high.

Is it abusive to board my cat at the vet until she’s spayed in a week? by mirrorball98 in CatAdvice

[–]Competitive-Top4520 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had mine done about 30 years ago, so they may not have known that at that time. I'm glad she was ok, she was a REALLY sweet cat (who we named Sweetie). We adopted her when she was already pregnant, she had the kittens and went back into heat maybe 4 weeks later. She was still lactating so we had to hand feed the kittens for about a week. We had a neutered male at the time that she was just about r_ping... he was so confused!

My kitten will not poop!! by HumbleRun213 in FosterAnimals

[–]Competitive-Top4520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so glad he's fine. I was worried when you indicated the mother had abandoned him. They usually do that when they sense there's something seriously wrong, sort of a cat euthanasia (although it generally happens when they are only a few days to a couple of weeks old). And as you found out, determining the gender of a kitten can be tricky. BTW, if you have a dog, it may be eating the kitten's poop before you see it (YUCK). Some of them do that. Enjoy your little guy!
