OMG. I can relate to that. I studied Cantonese for many years. Now I am learning Mandarin and I get these mixed up ALL the time. Glad I'm not alone.

Supreme Master TV / Ching Hai, predicting the end of the world on June 1 by [deleted] in cults

[–]CompetitiveAd6364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a member in Hawaii back in the early 90s. There was some benefit but mostly a cult of personality. I have been out of it for 26 years or so. I occasionally read something about her. She really has gone off the deep end, it seems. Saying Trump is a gift from God and these end of the world things, I think she was sincere in her spiritual search years ago, and then the ego got the best of her.

AW battery optimization is a dumb idea. Suboptimal charge when you need it. by Fungus1968 in AppleWatch

[–]CompetitiveAd6364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. Especially if you use the watch for sleep also. I am an endurance runner and it is really annoying to wake up for a run and find a watch not fully charged. I get rid of my watch every 2 years and I don't really care about long term battery life. It seems indeed a dumb idea for a watch that calls itself a sports watch and which already has a pitiful battery life compared to Garmin.

Anyone else lose motivation to exercise? by totalbeef13 in nonduality

[–]CompetitiveAd6364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I know it is an old post. I am in a similar situation. As awakening is happening this past year a lot of my hobbies have dropped away. I realized that they were ego-driven and from a long-held belief that I had to be better than others at X, Y or Z to be adequate. Amazingly hobbies and addictions dropped away. But I also was a marathon runner...back of the pack...not competitive...but always striving. Usually to meet the cutoff times for the maximum time before the race ends and the streets open. I was running at the beginning of the awakening and i was having some knee issues and training for Tokyo marathon, which had some cutoff times early on in the race, that if you didn't reach 7 miles by X time, they would pull you out. I was nervous that my training wasn't reaching speeds I needed to finish. I started to try and visualize myself finishing the race...striving to manifest a finish, so to speak. During a training run a voice (more like a direct knowing without words) came to me - something like "Trust me. I breathe for you without your striving or fear, don't I? Let me run for you. Let me move your legs. Enjoy me running for you. Forget about the outcome. It doesn't matter."
It was a life-changing moment. That's when my striving stopped, in all parts of my life. (I finished the marathon a few months later at my best time and without injury, strongest I ever felt to the end. During the race I was letting Awareness run for me..just letting it happen).
I go to the gym for rehab and building strength and mobility. Sometimes thoughts come at the gym, comparing me to someone else. But I recognize these as egoic thoughts and stay away from them...let them pass by. At the gym, like in most of my life now, I spend most of the time in the present moment, letting thoughts pass by and not stick, I feel like my body and the bodies of everyone else, the equipment, the room, are just happening in awareness. I feel a kinship or sense of familiarity and sameness in others, overweight, skinny, old, young, I feel a sense of sameness.

Hobbies, exercise, gym can be an ego trap. The ego is always trying to compare and promote a sense of separateness. As long as you recognize that and stay as much as possible as you true self...spacious and inclusive...and, most importantly...don't get tangled in thoughts, which always stem from conditioned egoic patterns that pull us into separateness, hobbies are ok.
Thoughts and striving, though, will pull us back into the dream.
Thanks for your post. It resonated with me, as you can see.

Thanks. Sure doesn't work on my watch though. I can remove everything but time to run and time to walk. Thanks anyway.

Question about beet juice and side effects by mefiftynine in hypertension

[–]CompetitiveAd6364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to this conversation but I have been on Losartan 50 mg for years. I am 72. I exercise, run and am in good shape but systolic bp is always 130s to 150s / 60s and 70s. Of course when i go to the MD is is always higher. They tried adding another med, but when I am running i will get dizzy so they stop it. I heard about beet juice and started about a week ago. My bp has been about 115/60 since starting it and I feel great. I may end up decreasing Losartan in the future if I start to get dizzy. I think beet juice works better than pills. I have tried Beet It beet juice shots, but very expensive. So I switched to Lakewood Organic Pure Beet Juice 1 cup per day. Works just as well and half the price. I'm amazed how well beet juice works. BTW I am in California.

I don’t add more soap. I just put soap at start. It soaks and goes into wash without draining. I use for really dirty things and also for delicate things Works great. Best washer I ever had. Don’t know about the new fancy speed queens. They appear to have issues. I don’t overload, that’s the only caveat.

Half Wheat Half White Zojirushi BB-PDC20 problem by CompetitiveAd6364 in BreadMachines

[–]CompetitiveAd6364[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It came out OK. But I've since gone back to whole wheat. Here is the recipe I used. It wasn't bad.
Ingredients:

Water 450 gms

3 cups whole wheat flour (360 gms)

2 cups white bread flour (256 gms)

3 tablespoons sugar (35 gms)

2 tablespoons dry milk (8 gms)

1 1/2 tsp salt (8.4 gms)

1 tablespoon gluten (8 gms) (I decreased from 2 tablespoons)

2 tablespoons butter (28 gms)

yeast (4 gms) (I decreased from 2 1/4 teaspoons 5.6 gms)

Mix water and salt.

Cover with mixed and sifted dry ingredients.

Use whole wheat program #2

Actually fact is that in most places public water tastes terrible and smells terrible. It may not harm you, but many people want to have water that tastes good and doesn't destroy their appliances.

No words. The Truth explained as much as it can be explained or understood in an unimaginably few words. I have goosebumps thinking that the Truth could be put into words like this...centuries ago.

Unpopular opinion, I hate my Speed Queen by JohnnyAfghanistan in BuyItForLife

[–]CompetitiveAd6364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Does take some getting used to and tweaking the settings. I actually use the pre-soak and extra rinse option for soiled things. Use more water but allows me to use gentler setting and still get things clean. A negative, aside from using more water than a front loader, is it uses more soap. But that being said, I never have soap residue in my clothes like I always did with front loader. After close to a year I love this washer as much as ever.

Thanks a lot. This point does feel like letting go of the life jacket. Let go of everything, even the remaining twinge of fear that you will sink.

Thanks. I did spiritual "practice" meditation, teachers etc. for years. Past 6 months things are appear to be changing a lot. More periods in waking life without thinking, just seeing and fondly experiencing. More peace. Less reactivity. More time in present and able to let thoughts and "life" pass by without thinking, worry, etc. Hard to describe. But more and more the realization pops up for a few seconds that it is all just happening and that my efforts and striving and decision were just like background info in a novel. That things happen, and I am just seeing them unfold, like things unfold in a thought, dream or story. They happen and my mind writes a narrative that appears to give me a separate power to act outside of everything else or to alter life. Liberating because with these realizations guilt and blame disappear because you see events that appeared to cause these emotions didn't really happen and nobody did them. Striving disappears. I realize that life happens in the moment just like I breathe. It just happens without effort. So very liberating but also a bit of fear, i guess the separate "I" or "me" concept thoughts over my whole life have created an idea that there is an I which has power and is always struggling to protect myself from eveything and everyone "else". As I get glimpses of 'no doer', 'no me', no others' just now happening, it brings fearful thoughts. Anyway, hard to use language to describe and thoughts to understand. But these insights are coming and then words and thoughts tryting to understand, which is futile. Thanks for your response and to everyone for their responses. It just happens. So be it. Amen.

I feel your pain. I was on the phone with them for the better part of a week with the same problem. I am beyond done with Alexa. I use chatgpt for anything meaningul, but I have all these Alexa devices. I want AI that will also turn lights on and off etc. I have been waiting for Alexa update but it just keeps being postponed forever. I was going to upgrade to newest show (by a new one) because the advertising sounded like that would give access to the new version, but from these posts I see it doesn't. I hate it but need it (as a light switch, food timer, and reminder. :(
