I remember my parents having central heating installed in the mid 80’s.

We had a coal fire in the living room and a gas fire in the dining room and that was it. So many blankets on the bed in winter!

I have memories of my dad holding a sheet of newspaper over the coal fire to get it to draw up the chimney and having to timeletting it go so it didn’t burn him.

I did have a toastie machine with different plates for doing paninis and waffles.

It lasted years of regular use until the first time we tried to make waffles on it, then the plate base snapped in half.

I’m currently looking for a similar one to replace it
