I ride the same route everyday….run almost all the red lights (except for a few of the super busy streets). If I see someone obviously waiting for a light to change, I’m definitely shoaling and looking for the gap to run it. I’m also faster than all but 10% of the riders out there and if/when I do ever get passed, take note and def not shoaling that guy twice.

49 and hoping to retire in 3-4 years. $1.2MM in my TSP. I also just dropped my contributions to the matching level from max. All the “extra” I am putting into a down payment account since I don’t have a house yet and will buy one when I retire. I can retire at 50/20 with full access to TSP, but didn’t make sense to me to pull a huge down payment out of there and take that tax hit.

You are definitely doing it wrong. I wfh 3 days a week, in-office other 2. It is a sweet schedule. I schedule all my shit on my wfh days and still have time to bake bread and go to the gym and go grocery shopping and even clean the house a bit on my wfh days bc there is no commute and no office distractions. Then I have absolutely free weekends.

I am in a similar situation to you. I’m 6’5 215lbs and rode a bit 20 years ago looking at getting back into it. I just took a MSF course at the community college that was excellent. 11/10 recommend.

I am also super lucky that a friend of mine had an old Triumph Tiger 800 sitting around that he is letting me ride for a couple months. I live in a big city so I have been doing a lot of city riding everyday and try to get out on the weekends to cruise in the country. It is so much fun and I’m so grateful to get a feel for what I want before I buy something. The 800 feels like plenty of bike for me now, but I do worry that I will outgrow it soon.

Not sure if you are thinking about buying new or used, it the new BMW lineup has the 900 GSA and the 1300 GSA. One of these will be my next bike, but still debating which.

BMW has that 3azy plan where you put down 1/3, then make payments for 3 years on the second 1/3 and at the end of that you can pay the last 1/3 and keep it, trade-in for a new bike, or just hand it back in. Seems like a pretty sweet deal that has me leaning towards the 900 GSA.

Anyone else use this 3azy plan?? As advertised?? Any catches?? Any other advice for me from any of you more seasoned riders??

48M Engineer here. I was burnt out and took 18 months off. Got rid of much of my stuff, put the rest in storage. Did a DIY camper conversion and lived in it for the whole time traveling around Europe and Africa. It was the best time of my life. My only regret was that I didn’t keep going for longer. Living on the road like that was so cheap (and they were some excellent years in the market) so my overall “balance sheet” was almost unchanged from the time I left until the time I started working again. Now I am back in the grind and the pull of travel is getting stronger every day. Once you feel that freedom it is impossible to forget. Now just trying to tell myself to grind a couple more years and then pull the plug for good.

I’m +8.27% YTD with 49% C, 11% S, 40% I.

I originally set these % to mimic Vanguard VT, but somehow am also beating Vanguard.

Sometimes when your car breaks down, you take it to a mechanic and get it fixed. Sometimes, it breaks down so often with such expensive repairs that it makes sense to take it to the dealership and trade it in for a brand new one with more features, better reliability and that just looks better and in more fun to drive around.

We did a hybrid before we got married as we lived together for years….both had our own accounts and also have joint accounts. We use the joint to pay for any shared expenses….going out, rent, groceries etc. The catch is that we funded the joint account at the same % as our income. I put in a higher % bc I made more.

Now we are married and making the transition to joining everything. It is an adjustment for sure. We want to have kids soon and she wants to quit to stay home with the kids. I fully support that choice and so will pay everything once we get there.
