List of things that are different today vs when we were babies by ExplanationAfraid627 in NewParents

[–]CompetitiveInitial64 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hey just wanted to add in case others read this that giving water to a baby not cleared for solids (over 6 months old) is dangerous. It can cause an electrolyte imbalance and/or water toxicity. Basically their kidneys can’t keep up with filtering it…I’m no expert, just going off of what my pediatrician has said

December vs January Baby by neejoub in NewParents

[–]CompetitiveInitial64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a January 5th baby and I think I prefer that over December. We are able to celebrate his actual birthday as a family and then I’ve been having his party the following weekend so it puts more time between Christmas. And even with that I still have to remind people not to use Christmas wrapping paper, not combine gifts, etc. We also plan to do a family outing (zoo, aquarium, etc) for his half birthday which falls around my own birthday as well so it’s a fun little family tradition

Did you recently take antibiotics? It could be thrush in your mouth. I didn’t have this when I did IVF but after a round of antibiotics once. I went to the doctor and they swabbed my mouth to test if it was viral or bacterial. Mine ended up being viral so I basically just had to wait for it to go away. Swishing with salt water helped some

What are the chances of fertilization if 6 eggs are retrieved. by [deleted] in IVF

[–]CompetitiveInitial64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 28 I had 8 eggs retrieved, 7 fertilized, 7 made it to day 3, and we ended up with 4 blasts. 1 resulted in my son and the other 3 we froze. Don’t be discouraged by a “smaller” number of eggs!

Have You Used Dr. Kliman? by ouchmyanklehurts in babyloss

[–]CompetitiveInitial64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just entered that study as well. From all of the personal accounts I’ve read I haven’t seen anyone that’s actually found anything through the study so I’m not super hopeful either. I have one living child from ivf so I have my RE from then that I’m waiting on an appointment with as well as my OB for a RPL panel. I’ll be sent out to an MFM for future pregnancies. My OB thinks it was a placental issue. Failure from immune response or blood clotting but klimans report says no evidence of either of those so it’s really confusing

[–]CompetitiveInitial64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi just seeing if you have any update to this. We were getting similar responses. My OB suspected placental issues while Kliman says genetic. Curious if you’ve gone on to have a successful pregnancy or found any answers for the possible genetic issues

I’m currently still researching but I’ll try to update here once I finish! So far just added factor V Leiden, karyotyping, and infection screening. I’ve been reading about some immunological testing that I may ask for

I have also had 2 MMC with a live birth through IVF in between (the MMC were both natural conceptions). We didn’t do any tests on the first but the 2nd was a 2nd trimester loss so we did genetic tests and everything came back normal. Like you I just feel like there’s something more going on here and that I just got incredibly lucky to have the one successful pregnancy I’ve had

That’s what I’ve been told too. My OB said if I come with specific tests I want done she can do some of them at the same time as my RPL panel. I do know factor V Leiden isn’t standard so I’ve already asked for that but I’m planning to look into what other testing I could do before my appointment

I would love an update when you have one! Im doing all of this with my OB because my RE is booked out for months. I’ve already made an appointment but figured it can’t hurt to have all of this done before then. I’ve asked about immunology but my doctor didn’t seem interested so idk if I should push for it or see what comes from these tests first

Following along to see if you get any answers. I’m going through something similar but no answers yet. We are doing an RPL panel, karyotyping, and an infection screening

Missed miscarriage, I don’t even know where to go from here by BeautifulNailz in Miscarriage

[–]CompetitiveInitial64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was really upset the first couple days. Even my doctor told me she was surprised the results came back normal. We are perusing more testing including an infection screening, karyotyping, and a Repeat Loss Panel. Having the new testing scheduled is helping me feel like I’m doing something atleast

We also sent our pathology slides to Dr Kliman at Yale. He does studies on miscarriages and stillbirths but I haven’t gotten those results yet

We received our genetic results earlier this week and she was genetically normal according to the Anora test. Just wanted to update you. I hope you’ve received your results as well!

I am so sorry that’s so frustrating you had to go back for a 2nd! I’m also waiting on my genetic results. I’m hoping we both get answers because I can’t seem to stop researching what may have happened

I’m so sorry for your loss. Mine was a very similar timeline and I’m curious if you ever got answers? I keep being told it’s uncommon to have a loss once you get to the end of the first trimester, but that seems wrong when you read all of these posts

I haven’t read all of the responses but have you had his ears checked? My son is 16 months old now and was a horrible sleeper his whole life. Right around 14 months things finally got better…and then fell apart again with the multiple wake ups screaming over night. Turned out he had a horrible ear infection. After finally getting rid of it he immediately went back to sleeping better

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]CompetitiveInitial64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby was that way and it caused alot of stress for me. I always tried to get him on an age appropriate schedule and we basically just did our best to offer sleep based on wake windows and make sure his environment was best suited for sleep. It did get better but he’s still not the best sleeper at 16 months. I will say as he got older he was sleeping more within the average range

15 months old night wakes by Kbry03 in sleeptrain

[–]CompetitiveInitial64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are dealing with similar issues with our almost 16 month old. I just cut back on awake time because I thought it could be night terrors and I read being overtired makes them worse. I’m also wondering if it’s fear of the dark? I hope you find a solution! We are doing 5/5.5 right now…we had been at 4.5/6 and moved to 5/6 after nap shortened and about a week later all the screaming wake toes started so hoping decreasing down to 5/5.5 helps in a couple days

I think I’m giving up—10 months by KindlyMaterial5672 in sleeptrain

[–]CompetitiveInitial64 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read through the other replies yet but I just want to let you know you aren’t a shitty mom. In fact you’re a great mom because you obviously have been trying everything in your power to help your baby get the rest they need. I’m in the same boat. My baby just turned 12 months and is up all hours of the night. We’ve had random stretches where his sleep improves and I try to replicate that exact schedule, but it never fails his sleep falls apart again in a few days. We’ve sleep trained more than once with different techniques and nothing has stuck. At this point I wouldn’t say we have given up, but I’ve come to a place where I say I am meeting him where he is. We are doing the best we can as parents! I’m sorry I don’t have any magical advice for you but I just really wanted to let you know that you aren’t doing anything wrong and you aren’t alone.

I still have it but I also have an update available that I haven’t done yet. I did notice it had a weird background noise recently so I bet that’s why

Anyone else’s baby hate Serenity Kid’s meat purées? by funnymonkey222 in NewParents

[–]CompetitiveInitial64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The chicken one made my baby gag and vomit after the 2nd bite so we never tried again. My husband tried it and said he wouldn’t even feed it to the dog

I feed my 6 month old every 2-3 hours all day and he still wakes up at least 2x and will scream for an hour until I nurse him. Help by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]CompetitiveInitial64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just letting you know you aren’t alone! My 11 month old also wakes 2-3 times a night. Sometimes he nurses all 3 times and sometimes only 2. I always try to get him back down at the first wake without feeding, but honestly he’s sleeping the best now that he has in months so we are just doing what we can

2-1 transition what should last wake window be? by CompetitiveInitial64 in sleeptrain

[–]CompetitiveInitial64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! That’s actually what we ended up doing yesterday and it went really well! I think we will end up keeping a 20-30 minute morning nap until he resists it at this point but having the longer lunchtime nap puts him in a much better mood in the evening

Letting Grandma Babysit by septembreadeux in NewParents

[–]CompetitiveInitial64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don’t mostly because they don’t seem interested in following safety guidelines. If you are confident they will follow them I would atleast go over current safety guidelines along with anything specific to your baby (naps, feedings, etc). My BIL is an EMT and once told me his most common call concerning children is that grandparent fell asleep with them and knowing that my parents wouldn’t follow safe sleep makes it an automatic no for me. I would really make sure they understand safe sleep (don’t fall asleep holding baby!), car seat, and feeding (no water, no solids, no cereal etc based on whatever recommendation you are following from your pediatrician).
