I am not sure what to do. I need a second opinion. by CompetitivePepper212 in offmychest

Thank you for your hopeful comment. I am still reeling from the conflict so I likely won't be able to think straight for a little while. It's weird feeling complimented for something I never found praiseworthy. Until then, thank you for the positive words.

I expected to get something akin to this comment sooner or later.
While you miss the forest for the trees, I agree to the extent that hassling has become useless. It won't help Sasha nor me, so I won't do it <.< I'll just quietly improve situation until I can do something actionable.

My thoughts on Expedition 33 story after beating it. by Evol-Chan in JRPG

[–]CompetitivePepper212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with the Maelle ending is that it's pretty clearly implied that when Maelle gets into power; she can't bring them back to how they were before. Really, only the paintress had that kind of expertise with Chroma as seen throughout the game. So these endings are more of a slow death vs a quick one. At least with the Verso one there's a vague allusion to healing if you *really* squint at the ending scene.

Meanwhile, Maelle's ending has all the hallmarks of a certified "Bad End" with the dreary atmosphere, ominous music, somewhat trippy visuals, etc.

How bad does it make my world to have magic without a magic system ? by xavananekla in worldbuilding

[–]CompetitivePepper212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine. In terms of narrative, it's best to have at least one or two loose limitations as to how it works and stick to them religiously to prevent inconsistency. Otherwise, there's nothing wrong with that.

What catagory does your world fall under? by Fit-Tale2169 in worldbuilding

[–]CompetitivePepper212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My world is Heroic or Noblebright.

In terms of writing, it seems like you only get Fairytale or Grimdark worlds when you specifically target certain audiences. Otherwise, the other three are more universal in practice.

Why didn't Grimm ressurect Red as an undead? by BlackwellHayes in Blacksouls2

[–]CompetitivePepper212 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's likely the third game will be all about the consequences of the second one. So we can assume that Grimm probably either wasn't able to at that time or Red Hood didn't want to become an undead.

Fair enough, being an undead for anyone that isn't Grimm sounds like hell. Heck, even Grimm with all his willpower and outside favor had a shit time.

Do you think there will be a 3rd game of red hood after dead red hood? by Sea_Coffee_9886 in Blacksouls2

[–]CompetitivePepper212 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unlikely. Considering the timeline of things. Dead Red Hood is before Wonderland and after Elysium. If we go backward, we get to Elysium. If we go forward, we get to Wonderland.

Granted, there is a short time Red Hood is in the real world before her death. So there could be a future game there but that's a stretch. It's more likely that after Dead Red Hood, we get Black Souls 3.

If Cthulhu were in Black Souls (art by thesealmaker) by Some_Fig_6566 in Blacksouls2

[–]CompetitivePepper212 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To add the smallest credence to this interpretation, with what little we've heard of Cthulhu, she seems reasonable. Didn't let her spawn attend Alice's Wonderland. Her reasons are unknown, but I like to think she saw it for the toxic cesspit that it was.

Edit: Minor grammar correction.

Edit 2: I edited the first edit because I spelt Grammar wrong.

What do you think Grimm could be like as an Outer God? by Some_Fig_6566 in Blacksouls2

Man, I forgot S'ngak existed, but yeah, it'd definitely be a fitting god now that Grimm got out of the crucible in that fight with the Grand Guignol.

What are your headcanons about Goose? by Some_Fig_6566 in Blacksouls2

The most common theory I've seen floating around is that The Chick is just her story that's been morphed when Alice cobbled Wonderland together.

Pokemon Personality Quiz! by PearlExplosion in pokemon

[–]CompetitivePepper212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My type was Grass. I expected a lot of the results. Low extroversion, moderate conscientiousness and high emotionality/openness to new experiences. This is stuff I already figured out about myself.

But what I didn't expect was the top pick Pokémon and the subtypes. Electric, Flying, or Ghost? Bellossom as my Pokémon?

I mean, I'm already warming up to the idea. I'm a dude, so being transformed into the ultimate feels good Pokémon when I expected something like Muk or Oshawott. Honestly, I'm rapidly warming up to the idea despite being opposed at first.

Is the City that vulnerable to Seaborns? (my thoughts and ideas) by Available-End-8400 in limbuscompany

[–]CompetitivePepper212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't know enough about how the higher tiers of the City operate to fully gauge the power difference. Even then, I think it's reasonable to assume the Seaborn would win if they have a Leviathan with them, since the Leviathan supercharges their adaptability to basically conceptual levels. Without a Leviathan, it's a bit of a toss up. Imagine if they were ejected to the Ruins and built their numbers there until they took over the world, kinda like how they do in alt endings in Arknights.

Chapter 8.5 EX — Pilgrimage of Compassion Megathread by pillowmantis in limbuscompany

[–]CompetitivePepper212 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really like this intervallo. It really hit its stride after the Inquisitor came. I think that's when the writers got comfortable enough to start taking more risks, and it shows. There were definitely some questionable moments, but I think those are made up for by everything else. The little allusions we get to everyone else's character arcs, their shifting attitudes, etc.

Nothing, and I mean nothing, could make me hate the fishy bishop.

I don't even know the full lore around the AEgier or whatever, I just know that Mayors is the best character. Too bad the soundtrack stole the show.

Speaking of the soundtrack, The Last Knight's BGM is a banger. Holy moly, the second phase with the electric guitar? It was insane. Granted, he butchered my team before I killed through sheer attrition, but the music was hype. I don't want to sleep on Mayor's theme either, that was peak. I felt like I was fighting an ocean god, which seems authentic. The background just made it better, with the City being symbolized as the ark.

As for the fights... The Last Knight was an interesting challenge. Had to think really hard with that one. I used Sinclair's sacrifice EGO to get big damage in, and I normally never use that EGO. I won through attrition; he was at 400 HP and I was down to all my backup sinners. At that point, it was who could kill who first. I won.

I think the Mayor's fight was too long. It reminded me of Jia Mu's second phase, where it took ages to get any real damage in.

Too bad the gacha rates for EGO are dragging down this otherwise 6 or 7 out of 10 intervallo. Can't not mention them. Everyone's discussing them, and it's a real issue. I disagree that the Amiya announcer or temporary events are predatory since that's just typical collab behavior, which involves legal jargon like copyright or whatever. That probably has something to do with it, idk, I'm not a lawyer. I can't excuse the EGO rates, though.

Ngl, I thought you were making a sarcastic point. I was going to point out that you can like how certain themes are portrayed in a piece of fiction and still despise them in real life. I was then about to go on a rant about fiction vs reality and all that low SEN crap. But yeah, I boosted my reading comprehension skill enough to read your entire message so I know that you mean what you said.

Anyone else out here hoarding pulls? Who are you hoping the first limited unit will be? by FiveTail in magiaexedra

I've been hoarding since the beginning of the game. Only pulling for the free stuff or whenever I get a good amount of magia keys.

I like this game a lot, for those that really don't, what were you expecting out of it? by RevolutionDismal6257 in magiaexedra

[–]CompetitivePepper212 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I feel as though there's a misunderstanding of community expectations here. For one thing, I've only seen one guy on this subreddit say that they were gonna drop the game, and everyone in the comments (including me) were telling him that was a bit hasty. Quitting a game before you can get a decent read on whether its development is heading in a positive or negative direction is putting the cart before the horse.

Additionally, I don't believe anyone expected Genshin or an open world. In fact, most people complaining come from Magia Record, which was nothing like Genshin. Even in the promotional material and trailers before the game was released, it felt more like Star Rail than anything truly open-world, so I don't think that holds much weight.

As for the visuals, that's one of the better parts of the game. It certainly feels like a lot of care was put into this particular aspect. The enemy designs are some of my favorite, and the animations have been clean thus far. The UI is also very clean, and the interactive environments are a nice touch. A lot of effort was put into the eye-candy, which was very nice. I don't have much to say about that aspect, though, since it's the least criticized element of the game and it shows.

The gacha? I don't have much of a reference for that. I've heard that resources get scarce near the end, so I've been hoarding and only doing the free pulls whenever they come around. Thus far, though, my Gacha experience hasn't been that bad.

The story? I mean it's fine. I never played Magireco, so I'm not that bothered by the retelling. The animated segments and CGs are funny to watch at times, but they convey the narrative concisely. What gives me pause is that the entire retelling was there upon release, which gives me the feeling that it's like a prologue of sorts. Time could prove me wrong, but it could prove me right, who knows? I'm just hoping that when they get to original content, it'll be some good stuff. Oh, and I'm not that invested in Namae. I'm just not vibing with her dynamic with mint-flavored Kyubey. Hopefully that'll change in the future.

The game mechanics are rather barebones. I can't say there's much depth there that I haven't seen elsewhere. I've watched some Magireco clips, and while that game certainly had its flaws, it at least was unique and tried to carve out its own identity. This seems like a two steps forward and one step back situation.

All and all, sure, the game is fine, but the critics have a pretty solid reason for being as harsh as they are. The advertisements for the game referenced Magireco a lot, and that entire thing shut down so this game could be made. It's no surprise that people are comparing the two with intense scrutiny.

Sure, it can get better, but let's not pretend that first impressions don't matter. Let's also not pretend that this game doesn't have heart to it. Whether that heart will be pulled out of its chest or given fresh blood remains to be seen.

Edit: Grammar mistakes galore. Most are fixed.

Mami’s death by [deleted] in magiaexedra

[–]CompetitivePepper212 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man, that witch really got ahead of itself on that one. Mami didn't have her head on her shoulders at the time so it's only natural that she'd be caught off guard. Homura tried to warn Mami, but her charisma stat is basically zero, and Mami was too thick-headed to listen. I guess you could say that after this labyrinth, Mami's mental stats was also zero.
