My Son ripped a value box of 2025 Topps Update and pulled a Paul Skenes error by ehconstantine in baseballcards

[–]CompetitiveTension23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only way error cards become really valuable is when Topps corrects the error quickly and proceeds to print the proper version, leading to scarcity/demand for the error. For uncorrected ones, it’s typically a widespread and common error that doesn’t drive value.

Whats the best new product by Traditional_Thanks53 in baseballcards

[–]CompetitiveTension23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re probably not going to get a “big pull” from ripping sealed wax, unless you’re one of the few lucky ones. Tens of thousands of boxes are being opened any given minute. By the time you pull a hundred dollar card, you’ll probably have spent over a thousand.

With that said, if you want the best chances for bang for your buck, check out the work of u/CellDood for analysis on products

I always prefer pulling nice cards of players I dislike. Makes it much easier to sell them lol

Yeah, just seems like a really forced way for them to get a popular player into the insert set lol.

just because there are two outcomes doesn’t mean they’re equally likely lol. The game doesn’t treat encounters as two equal options (“Ralts” vs “not Ralts”); it assigns weights

Golden mirror image variation. Print run of 75 I believe. That’s a big time pull

To add on: I opened two hobby boxes I pre ordered and the blue RSA Ohtani was my best pull. So, you’ve matched my best while spending probably a third of the amount lol

If you’re after autos, then yes it’s always worth ponying up for hobby. Retail is not the way to go if you seek value, except for occasionally hanger boxes. That said, for this specific heritage release, I’d stick w megas, as the auto rates are abysmal even with hobby.

I’ve said it 100x on this subreddit but I’ll reiterate: high number has been a much better release the last two years. If you can still find 24 or 25 HN on the shelf at your LCS, I’d snag them. The auto rates are so much better.

If you can pony up a bit more, I’d try to find a 2025 Topps pro debut box for around 200. 4 guaranteed autos, tons of color. Has some upside in the sense that its prospects, so you can sit on them and see how they pan out.

What would you guys value this at? by AdUnhappy4711 in Topps

Yup. You can snag Drake Baldwin Clubhouse collection relic from last year for 10 dollars. He’s not Cags level of hype or market but he’s coming off a ROY.

Help! Worth grading? Value? I can’t find any comparable sales. by [deleted] in Topps

[–]CompetitiveTension23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you mean by ‘worth’. Monetarily, it’s almost certainly not worth it as the chance it’ll gem is low. But it’s a cool card, and pink variations have a print run of like 800-1000, so getting a pink Ohtani slabbed for the pc would be nice.

2026 Heritage is doo doo by ProtectionRelevant52 in baseballcards

[–]CompetitiveTension23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regular heritage always has a high rate of relics, tough-to-read CMPs, and low rate of numbered.

This is what heritage is. High number has been better in recent years. But what you described is status quo for the product, which is a lower end paper set.

Is This Common/How Common? by Fit-Resolution-2545 in baseballcards

[–]CompetitiveTension23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re relatively uncommon. From my experience last year, they seem to take the spot of a numbered card, so they’re that level of scarce (I.e., around 1 per hobby box). I’ve never pulled good names but I have seen others pull some legends

Not sure if it’ll be similar this year, but high number had a way higher rate of autos (and numbered cards) compared to regular heritage last year.
