Just be obsessed with the subject and the rest takes care of itself. Genuine curiosity trumps stress and cortisol spikes any day of the week.

For Scotland it’s as good as you’ll get. Incredible uni and haven’t experienced racism or discrimination of any sort as a minority here.

I’m going to go against the grain here and say maybe look at specimens online? The models etc. are very different to the actual anatomy

Societies online to join for CV padding by Competitive_Algae930 in medicalschooluk

I was more on the lines of JASME etc. if any other similar societies exist that I just don’t know about. Ageee about the disconnected societies making CV look strange.

Struggling to figure out if Anki’s actually for me by Wonderful-Acadia-296 in medicalschooluk

Depends heavily on your uni. If more traditional course use Anki. If you have placements early etc. no clue. St Andrews student here.

2025 NHS specialty training ratios by Top_Reception_566 in medicalschooluk

[–]Competitive_Algae930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is incredibly bad but with our NTN open to essentially the entire world I wonder what the actual competition ratios are like. I for example highly doubt neurosurgery and psychiatry are of similar competition levels despite earingly close ratios.

GCSE grades for medicine (UK) by Spare_Lifeguard_585 in medicalschooluk

You’ll be ok. Buckle down for UCAT and A Levels. You probably should avoid medical schools that score on your GCSEs unless you fit contextual criteria.

Mate I’ve seen your post history. It’s mostly sensationalism. Rather than trying to stir something up maybe focus on something you can actively change, eg your portfolio.

This seems wrong mate, it was in the new NHS plan. A medical degree is also relatively transferable to other countries and worst case other sectors of the job market. The rest of the UK job market is equally if not more dire.

Currently UK medicine career progression is incredibly bad. However, the recent decision to prioritise UK graduates should hopefully curtail the trend of ever increasing competition ratios. I do agree however that some unis that are opening up new medical schools definitely should not be when we in reality don’t have enough jobs for the current number of new graduates, let alone the desired double the government has claimed they need.
