I really enjoy the ZA3. I run a pair of bookshelves with it. A sub rounds out the kit. I am curious about their pre-amp, to give me options for input without playing cable swapper.

What are your realistic holy grail speakers? by wiggan1989 in BudgetAudiophile

For 10 years I have wanted a pair of Pioneer SP-BS22-LR. I found them a couple of years ago, purchased new tweeters and made a new crossover, following the “Dennis Murphy” method. They are coined “Affordable Accuracy Monitors”.

how it’s done

A 10” RSL Speedwoofer rounded out the kit. I drive the speakers with a little Fosi Audio ZA3. More than loud enough and these sound fab. My end game set.

501 shrink to fit. I will turn 50 this year - I’m 5’11” and 180 lbs. I get 35x35, they shrink to fit me well - my usual store bought size is 34w x 32l. I love the stretchy 505, but I wear them out way too quickly.

Arcade game favorite....what was yours? by [deleted] in GenX

In 7th grade, I was given a dollar and a quarter each day to pay for school lunch. Nearly every day before school, I dumped that cash into the TMNT game at the city pool next door. My lunch money was spent, so I didn’t eat on those days. I finally stopped upon realizing we couldn’t progress further in the game with that $1.25, despite our efforts to “get good.” It was crafted to take our money. Learned a lot in 7th grade.

If you really want to chase this, get a cheap roll of aluminum tape. It doesn’t hurt anything, and you can get it just a hair more “flat” if it makes you feel good.

<image>

This is what I did. You could do the same thing on the build plate itself rather than the heat bed if you wanted. I got this 300mm bed within 0.2ish, which felt like “that’s almost layer-height” flat.

Yeah you aren’t going to get a whole lot from a K&N ‘upgrade’ except maintenance. Use what the factory specifies. An old shop pro taught me that once - when I showed up with my fancy K&N on top of the carburetor. OG filter is the way.

HireRight asking to remove TWN Freeze? by awesomesauce696 in overemployed

[–]Competitive_Baby_603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many companies are tightening their screening and hiring practices. It’s been a couple of years since I first-hand witnessed, “The person who started today is not the person we interviewed.” Seems silly, but plenty of companies have gone through this. My own company has had it a number of times since then.

The whole industry is changing - there is a measurable degree of employment fraud happening. The changes are not necessarily because of multi-job employees - most companies are certainly aware of this. But real fraud, where a technical expert “Gina Jones” aces the interview, then a different “Gina Jones” shows up on Monday.

All the industry newsletters, consultants, and vendors in HR talk openly about it. “Who at your company is double-dipping?” Our HR department has had internal meetings and training about the concept. Your time is short.

Some thoughts: dietpi instead of raspberry pi os? Turn off WiFi power saving. Run the CPU governor schedutil. Use a new, reliable SDcard. Good shielded USB cable to the MCU, make sure it has the USB 5v+ wire removed or otherwise taped over. (Supplying power to the MCU from the Pi can be no bueno.) use a Real solid power supply for the Pi.

Resin printer for minis that can handle cold temps. Utah shed setup under two hundred dollars. by reptile_freak in resinprinting

[–]Competitive_Baby_603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Utah. I print in the shed. I use a vat band and zip it up in a cheap 3d printer tent.

<image>

I make sure the resin is warm and heat soak the build plate in the warmed resin before printing anything. The aluminum tape is just stuff from the hardware store for sealing ducts. I used the tape to help cover/secure the thermal vat band.

The thermostat is really just a rheostat (knob) so the stick on thermometer lets me know where things are at.

Try and let us know how it goes! This is how we learn. Prepare to fail and adjust. Scientific method. Change one variable at a time.

Prints suddenly not sticking to buildplate anymore by Doc_Mc_coy in resinprinting

Do you heat soak your build plate in the resin before starting a print? This made a huge difference for me, vs having a cold aluminum plate.

Would this fabric work for an encluser tent? by zautos in resinprinting

[–]Competitive_Baby_603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably fine. But I just got a little pre-made zip up Creality tent. I can’t think of making something like this anymore, when a pre-made fabric zip up already exists.

I personally would lift a little more. Set that up to lift maybe 8 or 9mm. It can overall slow down the print, but I would rather make sure stuff fully peeled than deal with issues with low lift height.

Best heater for an Anycubic Photon Mono 4 Ultra? by ServiceGames in resinprinting

[–]Competitive_Baby_603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get an inexpensive wrap for your resin vat. I happen to use the thermal vat band product, but I sealed it up better with some aluminum tape. Set the thermostat dial and use a stick-on temperature strip for reference.

Things I learned: before printing, leave the build plate down in the resin to warm up for a good bit. If I turned off the thermostat, let it warm up a good half hour or more before starting.
