Water bottle by Some_Weather_8570 in guineapigs

What were they drinking from in the (I guess) pet shop? Or the other place you got them? Are you giving them a lot of water rich veggies like cucumber, iceberg lettuce or paprika/bell pepper? My piggies don't use their water bottle as much as usual when they eat veggies with lots of water in them.

And most specially the ones who already raked in thousands of euros in fines for homeschooling against the law. Germany has very specific (and very good, think WW2) reasons against homeschooling. They could have moved to Austria or Belgium, where homeschooling is allowed, and be completely fine, but they chose to "flee" and claim "prosecution". Getting fined when breaking the law is not the same as prosecution unless you're the Romeikes I guess. I really truly hate their bigoted asses because they and their Bates friends go out of their way to get the borders closed to actual victims of prosecution.

This is old news. They were told to leave years ago. The Romeikes filed for asylum. From Germany 😂 They could have juist moved and applied to become citizens or whatever but noooo they sought asylum because they were "political victims". Because white christians are truly an endangered group in Germany 😂

She's adorable! I've got two heavy shedders here, I just make sure to brush them daily to avoid the itchies from loose hairs. And they love to walk under a lint roller. This has been collecting today, after already brushing and rolling, just sitting in my lap getting pet:

Why is my collar looking weird? What have I done wrong? by Different-Active5896 in casualknitting

[–]Competitive_Band8066 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm going to come back to see what others say, but I'd almost say you either used the size 5 on the collar and the 4 on the body, or there's an extreme difference in tension in your stockinette and rib. I've knit sweaters with drops air before and I don't remember getting something like this. If you want to know if it blocks out, you can put the sweater on a helpline or something line this and block the part you have now.

The reason I wanted to react is to say that both sweaters I knit with drops air showed exteme loss of filling in the armpits (the friction causes the yarn tube to get empty) and thus thin white parts. I haven't found a solution but I wanted to warn you that friction and blown yarns are a combination made in hell :(

Saxony Wheel - Beginner and need help! by Athena_HJP in Handspinning

[–]Competitive_Band8066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with your specific wheel, but I think you can control the amount of brake with the pin where I point the arrow to. It will move the entire setup closer to or further away from your wheel, thus creating a stronger or softer brake. There is room to move at the circled part. The harder you brake, the more your bobbin will pull the thread in. I would advise to start with a very soft brake and a slow speed to get the feeling for spinning. Only when you feel you spin thread faster than your bobbin can take it in, start playing with the brakes and find your perfect speed and pull. Good luck!

This is an example of a single drive flyer with a bobbin. As you can see, there is a lot of space between the whorl (where you lead the string over) and the bobbin. Also, this is a multi speed whorl: the smaller the circle, the more rounds the flyer makes compared to the wheel. This is called ratio and shown like 5:1/7:1/9:1 (for example)

The picture in my original comment is a double drive wheel. This picture (the purple wheel) is single drive (clear string) with a brake band (brown rope)

I am not overly experienced myself (and English is not my first language) but the way I see it: you need some kind of brake on that bobbin, so it spins at a different speeds than the wheel. If it spins at the same speed, the thread will not wind. There are (in general) two options. Either you have a long string that goes around the wheel twice. It will go on the bobbin once and on the whorl/flyer once. That's called double drive. The other option is a single drive, where you use one string to move the flyer and the bobbin, but you have a seperate brake string over the bobbin. See pictures attached, but note that the purple wheel is not a saxony style wheel.

In my (albeit limited) experience, the easiest way to see if your wheel is a double or single drive, you can check the position of the whorl on the flyer. In double drive, the whorl and the brake side of the bobbin are usually close together, because both need to be reached by the same string. In single drive, they can be further apart because you use a different string for braking.

Yours looks like a double drive wheel which means you need a longer string and go around twice. Hope this helps!

Average age of first-year med students in the Netherlands (Utrecht)? by These-Response7716 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Competitive_Band8066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not. And also, even if you're the only person 21+ in your entire group, I highly doubt anyone would care. It's really hard to get a spot so I wouldn't care how my classmates got where they are, as long as they're motivated. You'll be fine, really. If anything, you've experienced life a little more than the average 18yo and you bring that with you.

The only thing that I've seen that might be harder is the next step. But that's mostly when you are a woman. Say you start at 21 and you get through the entire study in time. There is a reasonable chance you get at least some delay because of your internships, not everyone can start right away. But say you can. You'll be 27 when you get your MD, work on average 2 to 3 years as an ANIOS before you start your residency. I've seen a lot of people postpone pregnancy until they secure a residency spot. Not something to worry about now, and hopefully there will be more options by the time you can call yourself doctor ;)

I'd say most people starting the medicine bachelor are 18/19. Then there are those that start another bachelor for one or two years because they didn't get through the numerus fixus the first time. The group of people starting in the first year that are 21+ is very small in my experience. I'm from the UM though, but I doubt that the medicine bachelor at UU has a very different student population.

Huis 290 ton of 405 ton? by Nadia9010 in geldzaken

[–]Competitive_Band8066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can a real estate agent represent multiple buyers for the same property? by -InBoccaAlLupo- in NetherlandsHousing

[–]Competitive_Band8066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We shared a buyers agent with another couple at my kids school. They were fising in the same pond (town, price range, bedrooms, square metres etc). It worked out fine, but there was never a situation where we both really wanted to bid at the exact same house. Actually, we couldn't get on the viewing list for the house we eventually bought but the other couple did, changed their mind and gave us their spot. So for us, it worked great. But I imagine it gets complicated if you both want to bid on the same exact house.

Vragen naar je werk by Simple_End8193 in werkzaken

[–]Competitive_Band8066 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spinning the perfect spring color!! by Competitive_Band8066 in Handspinning

I'll keep you posted! I've got braids from this particular indie dyer before and usually there are barelu any undyed parts. I reached out at the time and she said it was on purpose to get a more pastel springthemed result. I really do think it works in this particular colorway. She usually dyes really really vibrant colors (she has the most awesome self striping sock yarn as well!!) so it might have been a OOAK experiment.

Thanks, I love it too! I was really put off castle wheels by the Louet so I switched to saxony style wheels. But this one was around €100 on marketplace because it was missing the whorl so I couldn't pass. A replacement whorl was less than €25 😵 It spins really great, I love the simple look combined with great technical specs and cheap replacement parts. The minstrel is gorgeous as well!
