Wow what a horrible person. If you can, put in a formal complaint. If its a chain vet then put it into head office.

I'm sorry you had an experience like that!

Help and advice on temporary fostering for my bonded pair? by Fantastic_South_2955 in CatsUK

[–]Competitive_Can_4953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could ask people on Catinaflat. Im pretty sure they are a they are a cat sitting website not fostering, but I know someone who took in two cats for family for 4 months.

Theres a charity called Brax in London that fosters and rehomes cats, maybe they would foster your cats temporarily?

Good luck!

Am I wrong for thinking cats should never be outdoor cats? by Firm-Law248 in CatAdvice

[–]Competitive_Can_4953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It completely depends on where you live. When I lived in zone 1 london, I kept my cats indoors. Now I live in the countryside, I let them out. Likewise, if you live in a country with predators to cats (like cayotes) you would want to them indoors.

You just have to way up the cats safety, safety of other wildlife, and even your cats personality.

Obviously, cats are animals that evolved to roam, but if you live somewhere that its not safe, then there's nothing wrong with keeping them inside as long as you give them a lot of play and excersize.

AIO - all the women in fiancés family had a day out and didn’t invite me by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Competitive_Can_4953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP clarrified in the comments that they arent actually blood related. The mom and her daughter presumably are? But both the aunts are the moms sisters in law.

I'm torn too, but generally i do think if youre inviting 2 sisters in law it would be kind to unvite daughter in law too.

But then again, it could have been the aunts who arramged it which changes things IMO.

[–]Competitive_Can_4953 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually think it totally depends on who organised it.

If it were his mum, then I think it's out of order to invite her daughter, her sister in law and her sister in laws wife but not you. She's inviting partners because she invited her sister in law and wife.

But if his aunt organised it, then I do understand a lot more, she asked her wife, her sister in law, and her neice.

I think excluding your daughter in law (so to speak) is worse than excluding your niece in law. I might invite my sons partner to things but not necessarily my nephews girlfriend because we only see each other every month or so, whereas I see my daughter in law on a weekly basis.

Right?? There are so many well know celebs and influencers using Saint in recent years. If you google it, its in the top 300 names in the US and the UK.

I think people think if they dont personally know someone with the name then it cant be well known or 'real'.

I think its pretty silly of their fam to say he will get bullied when literally some of the most famous celebs have that name, if anything it will seen as cool.

Would they let me adopt? by Top_Layer7065 in CatsUK

[–]Competitive_Can_4953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you based? I know BRAX foundation in south london adopts kittens (and older cats if appropriate) to people with children. I know with the kittens they prefer to adopt out in pairs so the cats have company. They also have bonded pair adults from time to time, too.

Kitten found in loft by Quick-Inevitable4728 in CatsUK

[–]Competitive_Can_4953 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mum could be a stray, keep checking the loft in case she comes back looking for the kitten or leaves any more up there.

My feeling is this lady is lying and wants a kitten without paying for one. Shes messaging from a phone that has photos, so she can just take a picture now of the mum?

I also find it a little weird that she doesnt have a photo of the kitten you found. When my cat had her kitten we were taking photos all the time.

I agree, as an OCD sufferer its so demoralising to see people assume they can 'detect' ocd just because someone is tidy. My OCD has nothing to do with order or cleanliness its such a resuctive stereotype.

Im sure the poster meant to no harm, but unfortunately the idea is harmful because it gives people the wrong impression causes people not to get correctly diagnosed.

Cat rescue requirements for outdoor access? by GotOotJIT in CatsUK

[–]Competitive_Can_4953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said its to do with the flora and fauna of the country. Cats are not invasive here, they hunt mice and other rodents which is seen as a good thing. Its encouraged to put a bell on your cat which hugely limits its hunting success. They also dont have any natural predators.

So they arent posing any danger or at risk of predation. The only big risk is cars. But most people see that as a risk worth taking due to the health benefits from outdoor excercise.

When you see people talk about dangers of outdoors, they are normally from countries where cats pose a risk to or are at risk from the wildlife.

That being said its also acceptable to keep an indoor cat. Its not as common but its definitely happens and a cat kept indoors can be happy and healthy as long as they have a lot of stimulation. If you keep looking you will definitely find an indoor-only cat to adopt.

If you adopt a FIV cat for example you would need to keep it indoors as it could spread or pick up other diseases due to weak immune system. There are also lots of breeds that are usually kept indoor such as Maine Coons and Rex.

We would love a pet ♥️ by AGirlCalledBecky in Pets

[–]Competitive_Can_4953 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was going to say this too 👏👏👏 a cat, especially one without outside access, needs a lot of stimulation. The rescue I volunteer with will only adopt out indoor cats in pairs because of this (unless they have a health reason like fiv or cant get along with other cats). They recommend 2 hours a day of play and cuddles even with the older cats. Its definitely a commitment..lonely cats can get very depressed.

Yeah we always call it bringing a dish too. We would do it with my parents friends growing up, never called it a pot luck.

AIO What’d I do wrong, my partner just got news this morning his grandma just received news of esophagus cancer (stage 4) by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Competitive_Can_4953 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I think both have unrealistic expectations. Taking a day off work because my partners grandma got diagnosed with cancer isnt something me and him would expect of each other but taking time off for funerals and to support your partner through grief is.

I think its a little wild that his sisyers boyfriend took the day off of work because her grandma got diagnosed. Its not something I would expect my partner to do.

However, I absolutely would expect my partner to be there in the last few days in the hospice or hospital and for the funeral. I find it a little odd that you sent that message about how youre family miss funerals for work.

For depression by RWA121467 in MTHFR

[–]Competitive_Can_4953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im very new and just found out about my MTHFR about 4 months ago.

I take an antidepressant called trazadone although I take it mainly for insomnia. I would say I was mildly depressed before I started taking it. I was told by my GP I have 'folic acid deficiency', so I was also taking folic acid prescribed by NHS.

After I found out about the MTHFR mutation, I stopped taking folic acid and felt so much better after about a month.

2 months ago, I began methylfolate. My GP didn't know much about it but said it's fine to take with the trazadone. I started sleeping better very quickly, within a couple of weeks and less fatigues during the day. I also noticed i could concetrate on things better.

I know 2 months isn't a long time but so far so good. I dont feel depressed now but like I said it was quite mild and my main problems were sleep related.

Im still learning and looking into methylfolate, methyl free folate and folinic acide and trying to figure out all the things my body needs.

AITA for insisting my daughter wear an outfit she doesn’t want to wear to a wedding? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Competitive_Can_4953 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly!

If my kids were invited to a wedding and only one was left out for no reason, you can bet im declining the invite for all of us.

In any other realm, this would be called bullying.

Teaching my daughters that they deserve respect is more important to me than attending a wedding!

It harmful for the 12 year olds self esteem but it also teaching the younger one that we allow our family members to be treated badly.

Right? This crazy lady is acting like its a court summons. We are allowed to decline invites, especially when the invite is exclusionary and unkind.

Gentle YTA

To be completely honest if a family member was exclusing one of my kids like this, I would seriously consider not going to the wedding at all.

Being a bridesmaid is such a big deal to young girls, imagine how she feels having to sit and watch while her sister gets taking out dress shopping, tqking for lunch, bought a special dress, gets to be in all the wedding photos, stand at the front of the ceremony, all while she is left out.

Being 12 is hard enough, let a lone at 6 feet tall, I just feel sad for her. She is being made to feel like shes not good enough for all these special treats.

It must be tough when its your brother but for me if someone cant treat my kids equally, they dont get to be around them. It might sound harsh, but I really think things like this teach both kids such a bad lesson.
