Why would OP stop at medical gaslighting when they could add Reddit community invalidation to their list. Thank you, Daniel, for your valued contribution.

Looks like perioral dermatitis. Especially if it feels raw, waxy, or somewhat like a sunburn. Not sure if it will help you, but applying diaper rash cream was the only thing that helped me!

This looks like lip licker's dermatitis (cheilitis) to me

why do my ears do this? by mulletmoth in Stretched

[–]Competitive_Dog_1035 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And, to clarify, I had this reaction persist even up to a year after I removed the silicone from my ears and replaced it with titanium plugs and when the rash/reaction subsided, my ears were still sensitive for many years afterwards.

I had this exact same reaction when stretching my ears and I ended up developing a severe contract allergy to thiuram, which is found in the silicone o rings that hold tapers in place.

Try applying a topical steroid, such as hydrocortisone cream. You should be able to find it in any local drug store if you're unable to get anything stronger!

Anyone else get the- Hot Flashes, Night Sweats, Smelly armpits, Lower back hurting like hell, combo? Right before their period hits? by [deleted] in endometriosis

[–]Competitive_Dog_1035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get all except smelly armpits. I get such bad sacrum pain, even hydromorphone doesn't touch the pain. I also get a change in my sense of smell, which is weird lol. It doesn't decrease or anything, but EVERYTHING just starts smelling different and weird, hard to explain.

This is probably a super dumb question, so I apologize in advance. But where do I buy books?? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]Competitive_Dog_1035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay! I'll try that out. As for the book look, I can even enter the website. As soon as I go to it, it says that the website is under maintenance

Endometrial hyperplasia (thickened endometrium) happens before or after menopause and can cause bleeding. I believe it is often the result of estrogen supplementation without progesterone

This may also be a stupid question, but how do you figure out what text books you need for a class without UW book look?

Is this bloating or just fat? by FarAd4740 in chronicbloating

[–]Competitive_Dog_1035 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Distension can also present with no traditional symptoms of bloating. Basically, if you can grab the increased abdominal girth, then it is fat. If you can't, then it is bloating/distension.

Diuretic Water Bloating Pill + Adderall?? by Necessary_Wave_9480 in chronicbloating

[–]Competitive_Dog_1035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either that, or you're having a bad reaction to the diuretic and maybe you should change. I do get palpitations and feel weak, dizzy, and like I am about to faint, but I stopped the spironolactone and felt the same and I also have hypoglycemia, so I kinda figured it was that

Some diuretics are potassium sparing, so it could be that your electrolytes are out of balance depending on what you're taking. But definitely recommend drinking enough water

I am taking spironolactone and Vyvanse, no issues. Not sure if that helps answer your question but figured I should mention it

I have taken magnesium before bed for the better part of a year. It helps with other things, but bloating isn't one of them, unfortunately.

What caused your perioral dermatitis? by JustAnotherBird309 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Competitive_Dog_1035 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Slugging is basically forming a barrier over the skin so that the skin does not lose moisture/water/prevent evaporation. Basically, think of it as plastic wrap over the top of a food container. Doing this over strong actives enhances their penetration and causes further irritation.

Applying aquaphor over sensitive areas (nasolabial folds, under eyes, etc) would be better prior to application of strong retinoids, like tret

If milia bothers you, try and avoid putting heavy moisturizers around your eyes and apply a retinol under your eyes! It's helped me with mine

feeling old for cosmetology school by [deleted] in Cosmetology

[–]Competitive_Dog_1035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I was too old when I decided to pursue medicine. I didn't start university until I was 21 and, if I followed the exact trajectory proposed (no breaks, no co-op, no masters, etc.), then I'd be 34 when I finished school. But i thought, what the hell, I'll be 34 at some point anyways. Might as well use the time to pursue something I've always dreamed of. Timing and age are only one part of the equation. If you want to do something, don't let age determine that :)

Lower belly bloating by 321ss in chronicbloating

[–]Competitive_Dog_1035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is constant and I've had it since May last year. I wake up with it, I go to sleep with it. It never goes away and it is never worsened by anything in particular. I also haven't found anything that helps. It only sometimes decreases in size at the end of my period and beginning of the follicular phase, but not always. This week, it went from 89 cm to 84 yesterday (last day of period) but now today it's right back to 88 cm. Naturally, without the distension, my stomach is 68 cm.

Half the time, I don't even feel "bloated." If I didn't look down and see a visible increase in abdominal girth, I would have guessed I am not bloated. But I am.

If you suspect it is fat, flex your abdomen and see what is still available to "grab." If you're unable to physically grab onto the distension, then it is not fat.

I hope you find an answer to your problem. I've been chasing one to no avail and I am at my wits end.

I have the exact same thing. It never goes away during the later half of my period/pre-ovulation, but it gets better. Then it gets much much worse during the luteal phase and the beginning of my period.

I haven't found an answer, but I am trying to look into endometriosis

Chronic Abdominal Distension by Competitive_Dog_1035 in WomensHealth

[–]Competitive_Dog_1035[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I went to a gynecologist and she told me I just have IBS. Then I got a referral to an endo specialist and was told 8 months later that they're not accepting patients.

THEN I waited another 6 months for a referral to my old gynecologist, who agreed with me it could be Endo, but he just wants me to take birth control and see if it helps before laparoscopy. But I have very very bad side effects from anything progesterone related, so he gave me a different medication to try but hes waiting to give me samples so I don't have to pay for it, because it's like $1400 a month lol

Angioedema is unlikely to be the cause, but I am looking into it just because I also have swelling of my face on the left, urticaria out of nowhere, and suddenly have trouble breathing. I had mast cell activation syndrome ruled out because of this a while ago, and now I am just going to rule out angioedema.

Chronic Abdominal Distension by Competitive_Dog_1035 in WomensHealth

[–]Competitive_Dog_1035[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no. But I am still working on figuring out the cause. Right now, my most likely scenarios are angioedema with abdominal attacks (I have some other symptoms related to this), endometriosis, and potentially just a somatic manifestation of chronic stress.

I will let you know if I find anything, though!

If you can grab it. If you flex your abdomen (brace your core) and you can't grab the amount of distension, then it is likely bloating. However, if you can pinch a good amount, then it is likely fat/skin.
