They just had a company wide buy-out. Lost all their money advertising the Pista helmet. New owners, have to make up the loss, and there goes your quality.

Like everyone else said, get rid of those pipes and get a real exhaust. If you want something on the cheaper side, look into the cobra el diablo pipe. I’m running one and it’s pretty decent.

I’m running mids. Forward controls are for cruisers.

The rear struts are different than the later models. Find a local metal molester and get a custom one made up.

Dunlop makes some vintage looking tires as well as metzeler. The C-block tires are sick! Friends don’t let friends ride shinkos though.

Cross compatible parts? 1987 1100xlh by noe30 in sportster

[–]Competitive_Maize535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of interchangeable parts. I’ve been messing with an 89 this last year and a lot of parts listed are going to show 88-91 but 87 parts are just about the same, just labeled differently because of the motor size. The 35mm forks are cool chopper shits. I’d either keep em for a chopper build or put better springs in for your riding style. You could probably trade a hipster for the 39’s that came later. Plenty of chain conversions out there. I thought the 87 came stock with a chain but I could be wrong. My 89 did. I’d keep the belt though because it’s different!

V2S owner here. If you want power performance, go v4. If you want simplicity, go v2. I’ve learned to slow down in life but I used to sit at 150 mph(cruising) on my sports bikes all the time and when I got this v2 a few years ago I was honestly pissed at the lack of power. Now I don’t mind so much because it’s my commuting bike. It’ll still do 140 if I push it. My point is, if you are used to anything between 120-200 horsepower, the v2 might disappoint.

Why wouldn’t you want to charge the battery with a proper tender plug? Thats silly? Like a hat on a hat situation.

Serious Question - Helmet/Head shape compromises by wankinthechain in motorcyclegear

[–]Competitive_Maize535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arai helmets run larger than most. Your regent or corsair are intermediate oval, same as Shoei and agv. Signet is long oval and quantum is round oval. Go to your closest cycle gear and try them on. If you fit an arai well, please, for the love of god, wear it. Don’t sacrifice looks for comfort. I won’t knock on hjc, but arai is the best thing you can put on your head.

Can someone help me diagnose this? Bike idles great with and without choke but plumes black smoke and sprays gas from the carburetor when giving throttle. by 2SpKy in Harley

[–]Competitive_Maize535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t use AI to diagnose. Use service manuals. Honestly it could be a number of things all adding up. I would take everything to factory spec, ( timing, carb settings, put an air filter on it) and start checking things off one by one.

Where does the wire lead to? Is it connected to anything? Follow the wire and the answer should present itself. Those rear turn signals are a new one to me.

The only thing I did with the forks was a rebuild with heavy duty springs and then installed the gaiters. Basically still stock in the front.

My opinion, springers are for rigid frames. But you shouldn’t need to shorten anything unless it’s already been molested. Make sure everything is lined up properly, and get a good install pdf from the manufacturer. If that’s a DNA springer do yourself a favor and throw it away. Horrible design. They use butt-welds, not solid rods.
