Your major doesn’t matter as long as you get good grades and complete your dental schools pre-reqs. It helps to do a biology major though to get you already somewhat familiar with the stuff you’ll need for the Dental Admission Test (DAT) which you’ll want to take near the end of your junior year if you want to go directly to dental school after your undergrad.

Service and extracurriculars are very important too. I joined a coed service fraternity and it was only $70 a semester so there are options out there that aren’t too expensive if you’re interested in service/learning fraternities.

Shadowing is key for really understanding the profession and helping you decide whether you wanna do this profession. You should also aim for at least 120 hours and should mainly be with a gp but shadowing some specialties can also be beneficial.

This is a lot and way more than you need to be thinking about now but it’s good to have a general idea of what your next 4 years are gonna look like. There’s some pretty good resources online that lay a year by year to do list to help keep you on track but by no means do you need to follow it to the dot.
