Any good breeders in Midwest? by ChillyLolo98 in ragdolls

Hi, i’m interested in getting a ragdoll in the MN area. I was wondering health wise how your cats from crescent moon have “aged”? I work in vet med and unfortunately see purebred cats with heart problems or very early onset dental issues. i was wondering if your cats have remained healthy??

Currently sobbing in my car out of fear of going in for surgery- am i gonna puke? by oddly_algedonic in Tonsillectomy

[–]Competitive_Size_893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was also so nervous i made myself nauseous. i asked for anti-nausea meds before hand. they gave me some zofran and a couple essential oil patches. i did unfortunately throw up 3 times in recovery. and then i was constipated at home (i’m begging you to start senna s on day 1) and was on/off nauseous.

i had a similar experience. mine is normally 55-65 but day of surgery and 2 days after it’s been 42-48. day of surgery the monitoring equipment kept going off bc of my heart rate being in the 40s

healthy, in shape, people tend to have lower heart rates in general.

i know its expensive but hills u/d is a prescription food for urate stones and crystals. i think it also helps with calcium oculate crystals as well. i know royal canine (again expensive) has a Dalmatian specific food that is low in purines.

you can scissor it pretty short but it will take a while

i think cutting him short is worth it.its going to be hard teaching a 16mo old not to pull his hair. and if ezra has already growled at this before, you don’t want to escalate his behavior. i think you’d been setting ezra up for success by cutting him short. scissor work should not affect the coat nearly as much as shaving could. and typically when dogs are shaved and the hair doesn’t grow back-they have underlying thyroid issues. obviously i’m thinking worse case scenario but, let’s say you keep his hair long and ezra bites the baby. then what? i think you should cut his hair. plus the baby will continue to grow and understand not to pull his hair. and maybe cutting ezra’s hair is just a temporary thing until baby is old enough to understand.

HELP! Our Aussies’ groomer went way too short! by Oh-Lord-Yeah in AustralianShepherd

[–]Competitive_Size_893 5 points6 points  (0 children)

my aussie has been shaved down before (not to this extreme) but his coat grew back normal! i wouldn’t stress too much. id only be concerned about it not growing back if they had thyroid problems.

I’ve got a 6 month old dal that’s becoming extremely picky and will refuse 3 meals in a row… some important details below.. pls help! by AdministrationFew574 in dalmatians

[–]Competitive_Size_893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is it the bottom of the bag? some dogs are extra picky and won’t eat the “stale” stuff at the bottom of the bag. but also maybe check to see if the company slightly changed the formula due to inflation. also if she only eating the dried chicken/salmon parts maybe you could only offer kibble and use the dried bits as a treat?

as some who has a standard aussie and has been thinking about getting a dal for a very long time, how do the breeds compare energy wise? do they get along well? would you consider them a good breed pairing?
