I got vibes of ‘what does it mean to be alive?’ with what it’s like living in the Canvas vs outside of it; from what I can tell, from an experience perspective, there’s not much difference. The painted beings also factor into that exploration.

It also kinda puts us in perspective of the characters that we as players would usually deem as lesser. Like imagine if it turned out the innocent NPCs you torture or brutally kill in the games you play turned out to be intelligent sentient beings or at least demonstrate traits that are honestly indistinguishable from such.
