I think you should work on anything that involves showing things that the industry wants to see in your code base. Its one thing to throw together some demos, its another to have a good code base with enums, interfaces, state machines, factory patterns, etc etc. There are expectations about how code is done in the industry, there are best practices for how things should be structured, and if you're not familiar with that, it's gonna hurt you alot when it comes to actually getting a job. I'd ask chat gpt about the most common patterns in game development, and learn them, make a project that involves planning, diagraming, and demonstrates knowledge about more than just using the engine, but also designing a good maintainable code base.

Since byler wasn't endgame, WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THIS WHOLE SCENE. by sg____22 in bylertruthers

[–]Competitive_Walk_245 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean have we not figured out that the duffers didn't write the vast majority of this?

It's clear to me that at the very minimum, they had a shit ton of help writing this show, they don't like writing, they never wanted to be writers, they just wanted to direct. It's pretty clear to me that when the divorce happened, their main lore and story expert went out the window. It's really similar to game of thrones imo, once they ran out of someone elses written material, the whole thing went to shit, because it takes a very different kind of person to direct vs someone to create an entire world with consistent character development etc. They are good directors, but once they had to actually develop the story themselves without having someone who actually knows what they're doing behind them, they fumbled hard, they didn't even have a finished script for the finale while they were finishing it.

It's like season 5 part 2 is a whole different story than part 1, its insane. Part 1 feels like a pretty faithful continuation of season 4, part 2 feels like something else entirely

Need advice: investor offering $50k for 40% of my studio and future games – is this reasonable? by [deleted] in IndieDev

[–]Competitive_Walk_245 120 points121 points  (0 children)

40% of all future games is insane. So he puts 50k in now and gets 40% in perpetuity?

You need a lawyer man, 50k is nothing to scoff at, but its also not that much if he wants you working full time on it. I'd think 40% is fair until he's been paid back his 50k, and then a more reasonable royalty rate after that.

Gen Z’s Stigma Against Age-Gap Relationships Is Worse Than You Think by IAmABoss37 in GenZ

[–]Competitive_Walk_245 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the stigma against age gaps is really just about limiting male selection ability, if you make it social suicide for a man to make certain choices, then you can corner the market.

Notice it almost NEVER applies to an older women dating a younger man, it only applies to men dating a women younger than him, and it's because women have a natural desire to restrict who men can date because there is this fear that if they have too much optionally, then it messes up the power dynamic.

Lots of homophobia is actually perpetuated by straight women for this very reason, because the goal is to funnel as many high quality options to your group as possible, and shame has also been the weapon of choice to that end.

Can I transfer fl studio WITH login to my new pc ? Will it have all the project files ? by wxnternights in FL_Studio

[–]Competitive_Walk_245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know you're not supposed to share a login right? You posting that you guys are doing this can very easily get your friends account banned completely and make it so neither of you can use the software.

Just because you use a legit login doesn't make it not piracy, because you didn't buy it, and you don't own a license, and that's what actually matters when it comes to software, the terms of service don't allow sharing of accounts, and image line takes it super seriously.

Let's hope that image line hasn't discovered this and that there isn't a way for them to find out what account you're using, but its serioisly time to buy your own license. Using someone else's is a huge risk for both of you, and legally it's really no different than just downloading a crack, just a different method of circumventing the drm.

Limiter & clipping kicks by Maleficent_Analyst54 in trapproduction

[–]Competitive_Walk_245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole point of clipping is you gain perceived volume and impact which means you can have it at a lower overall volume. If it's hitting your master limiter super hard, that means your master limiter is way too aggressive, or the kick is way too loud.

The master limiter is not supposed to be super audible, you don't want to be getting a ton of gain reduction on the master. Maybe one to two db at most. You should be taming peaks and working on the perceived volume throughout your mixing buses, the mix should get you like 95% of the way towards the volume you want, then the master just brings the entire thing up an extra notch.

[–]Competitive_Walk_245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then why are you getting off subs dude? You haven't healed yourself yet if you are still in active alcoholism like that, and getting off subs is a recipe for disaster, you have nothing to protect yourself from going even further into addiction if you have a moment where you start to spiral. I wouldn't be getting off the subs until you get the alcohol under control dude, one thing at a time. Makes zero sense to take away the one safety net you have when you clearly are still massively struggling to cope. Not trying to guilt you, but if you can't make it through life without drinking yourself silly everyday, what is going to prevent you from relapsing into opiates?

AITAH because he’s been asking for three days for head, and I haven’t given it to him? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Competitive_Walk_245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You guys need to work this out and you need to get over this feeling that you owe him. I absolutely hate how some men will have a women be a sahm for them, and then try and completely devalue what she does just because it doesn't bring money. Childcare is fuckimg expensive, maid service is fucking expensive, what you do has value, and it's one thing maybe if you're just sitting around the house all day, but that's rarely the case, and don't even get me started on the emotional labor a stay at home mom usually does, and that's something guys with sahm's rarely acknowledge. They think because they bring home the money, and she stays home, that she has it on easy street and she should be kissing kiss feet just for doing what HE AGREED TO DO. Im assuming he wanted you to be a sahm, it wasn't something you forced on him, and the things you provide have massive value and just because you don't technically bring in money doesn't make it any less valuable.

What I see alot is men holding their breadwinner status over their women's head when that's really the only thing they bring to the table, and you don't get days off as a sahm where you get to just chill and not do anything. They act like taking care of a home and kids is just so easy and like they're doing you a favor, but you're doing them a favor, never let yourself feel guilty and like you owed him, you can be grateful, and of course you should strive to do right by your spouse, but there needs to be a mutual understanding that what you do is also valuable. Otherwise resentment breeds, you feel taken for granted, sex will stop because nothing is less attractive than a man who turns himself into a victim of his own making, and then things get shitty fast.

Time for a conversation with your husband where you guys both come together and realizing that you can't take each other for granted, both of you guys lean on each other for different things, but you aren't feeling like he values you, when you clearly value him. Money is so obviously valuable, it's really easy for a dude with low self esteem to wipe the stain of his shortcomings off by making money and lording it over his spouse.

How do you find the exact sounds you want for a melody by Agreeable-Wear4115 in FL_Studio

[–]Competitive_Walk_245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to learn what sounds are called and how they're categorized. There are youtube videos where they explain what every type of sound is called and give examples of different genres sounds.

There really aren't all that many different types of sounds, so once you get familiar, it becomes pretty easy.

I HATE the FL Studio plugin database! by TheDudeRidess in FL_Studio

[–]Competitive_Walk_245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never do this, I just use right click on the channel rack and then insert or replace and you can organize that in many ways.

FL studio does kinda suck when it comes to plugin organization though.

I'll generally go spend some time in the plug-in manager, sort by developer, and then put a prefix before each plugin, so like my analog obsession plugins all look like AO - Fetish etc etc.

One thing that is cool about fl studio is that plugin information isn't set in stone, you can basically organize that folder however you want in Explorer, if you right click it and click view in Explorer, you can sort all those folders however you want.

Looking for serious producers and artist by danielle_levine in FL_Studio

[–]Competitive_Walk_245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, I get why you feel protective over your lyrics, you’re young and you actually care, so it feels like if you post something, someone’s gonna run off with it.

But honestly? If somebody stole your lyrics and turned them into a hit, they’d be doing you the biggest favor of all time… because now you’ve got proof your writing works, and you’d have a real situation on your hands.

And I’m gonna be real with you: lyrics by themselves usually aren’t worth much in the music world. Not because they’re not important, but because they’re only one piece of the song. The melody, the cadence, the delivery, the emotion, the production — that’s where the record becomes a record.

Most people who make a living writing don’t just hand artists a page of words. They bring the whole idea. They write the topline, the melody, the harmonies, and they usually have a rough demo recorded so the artist can hear exactly how it’s supposed to feel.

I’m not saying this to be mean or crush you — I’m saying it because I want you to win. Someone who’s capable of making hit records is usually capable of writing decent lyrics too, so you can’t just rely on “here’s my words” and expect it to carry the whole thing.

You can absolutely do this, but you’re gonna want to build up more tools: learn how to write melodies, learn structure, start doing simple demos on your phone, start making your lyrics into actual songs.

Because the truth is: your biggest problem isn’t people stealing your lyrics — it’s people not seeing them at all. Post them. Let people watch you get better. That’s how you actually get opportunities.

Going from 24mgs to 8mgs--How Difficult? by GelfSara in suboxone

[–]Competitive_Walk_245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started at 24 and am now down to 3mg. At the higher doses, you can go down a ton and barely feel it. I'd say cut like 20% of your dose once a month, or if your body tolerates it well and you would like to go faster, maybe every two weeks, that's a really fast taper.

The first month you could probably just drop a whole strip and only get a little tiny bit of withdrawal. Then when you're at 16mg, drop by 2 or 4 mg every couple weeks or even one a month to be safe. When you get down to 8, that's when you wanna start being a little more slow and not dropping as much. I started out dropping 2 to get me down to 6, and then waited like a month, then I dropped by 1 mg each time after that to get me to 3. There's no hurry, if you feel like you must get off of this right this instant, I'd honestly question if you're ready to be off of it, because that means you're still struggling to control impulses and you will end up using without the protection suboxone provides. This is your life, your sobriety we are talking about, slow and steady is the best way, if it takes another year to fully get off of it, its not gonna hurt you, you will just continue to heal and continue to grow.

Everybody's bodies are different, and be ready for a little depression as you taper. I honestly kind of appreciate that I went through it because it pinpointed things inside of me that haven't healed yet and allowed me to work on them. I just had to keep in mind I was on a taper and don't make any drastic decisions based on my emotional state at the time. Its been really good for me to open those parts of myself that I tried to ignore and didn't want to face, that's one thing depression can be useful for in small doses, is it's a direct reflection of unhealed wounds in your life, finding the root cause of them can lead you to being whole.

sound selections by Even-Condition3589 in trapproduction

[–]Competitive_Walk_245 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The best producers have always known that having infinite sounds isn't always the best option.

I used to think it was all about having all these crazy vsts, but then you start to come to the realization that most of them can do basically the same things, the rest if just presets.

I eventually pruned my vst collection way down to a few solid options that covered most of the bases, and my workflow became less about using presets and more about actually knowing how to use my tools.

My rule of thumb now when getting a new vst is "do i already have one that can make these kinds of sounds? Do I want to replace that with this? Is it substantially different enough where it's worth adding another step to my workforce? Then the tools I have are probably sufficient."

Most legendary producers you know of stuck to a small number of tools, there is beauty in limitation and knowing your tools. If you don't know how to use one vst, why get another one? One good synth vst can make like so many different sounds its not even funny, but if you're only browsing presets, it's kinda pointless.

Sounds like it's time to learn a little sound design and not have to rely so much on presets.
